Popular Kusini 4-star Hotels

We zijn zondagavond 24 september vanuit een verschrikkelijke accommodatie waar we net waren aangekomen op zoek gegaan naar een ander verblijf. Na even zoeken vond mijn vrouw Albatros Ocean View. Wij appten met de manager en hij regelde dat de volgende ochtend om 9 uur een taxi klaar zou staan en onze kamer beschikbaar was. Om 10 uur in de ochtend arriveerden wij bij Albatros Ocean View en werden wij verwelkomd door de manager en konden wij nog genieten van een goed ontbijt met zicht op de oceaan. Het personeel van “Albatros” heeft ons een super mooie week aan zee bezorgd. Een speciaal dankjewel aan manager mr. Frank en vooral de bediening door Mozes en Peter zullen wij niet vergeten. Zoveel oprechte gastvrijheid en niets was de heren teveel. Of het nu door Peter en Mozes door henzelf georganiseerde etentjes op het strand waren of een speciaal menu betrof, alles kon en alles met veel toewijding en plezier. Het hotel was klein (18 kamers) en had een mooi zwembad en lag direct aan zee. De kamer was schoon, groot en netjes en voorzien van airco. Het eten was gewoon goed en lekker. Een enorme keuze aan betaalbare cocktails maakten het verblijf compleet. Je merkte aan het personeel dat het management betrokken en goed voor hun was. Ze gingen als een familie met elkaar om en zorgden ervoor dat het de gasten aan niets ontbrak. Helaas hebben wij na terugkomst vernomen dat het hotel door een andere investeerder is overgenomen en dat het personeel op zoek moet naar een nieuwe baan. We spent 2 wonderful weeks here. Our flight times were awful, both landing and departing at 4.30 am which meant we had to wait for our room to be ready until after lunchtime, but on the plus side we had our room right until we got picked up at 12.30am on the last day. You also receive all inclusive food and drinks as soon as you arrive until you depart. Upon arrival we were provided with a changing/shower room to use. Even at 6.30 am the heat felt intense, especially since coming from UK November weather, so it was nice to get changed, have a mosey around the grounds and then have breakfast. We had a deluxe sea view suite which was spotless, spacious and had everything we needed. It was cleaned daily. Unusual not to have any actual channels on the TV, but you have access to apps such as Netflix, YouTube etc. Air con worked well and the mini fridge was so cold it turned drinks in to slushies! We enjoyed the food. It was varied with international and local dishes. As with many places I've visited in the world, the temperature of some of the dishes could have been hotter, but the standard was very good overall. It was nice to have the choice between the main buffet and the Indian buffet for a change of scenery. I did expect some of the local dishes to be a little more fiery with Zanzibar being the spice island, but the flavours were delicious. The drinks service in both restaurants was very good. We also ate in the a la carte restaurant and found the food really good at excellent prices and with great service. On the days we weren't out on trips we spent the day on the jetty. It was lovely to sunbathe comfortably in the breeze and stare out at the stunning view. We are not really entertainment people, but we were in the bar on karaoke night and saw the acrobatic show too. All very good. The entertainment team were not pushy and liked to have a chat to practice their English. All the staff were friendly, polite and respectful. Everyone we passed in the hotel gave you a 'jambo'. I cannot praise the staff highly enough. Too many to mention individually, but my favourites were the boys at the jetty bar. Tipping is not expected and I didn't see much of it going on, but with such low wages in Zanzibar the odd dollar here and there is gratefully accepted. It was entertaining to see the monkeys just hanging around the hotel, living in harmony amongst the guests. We did the Stonetown and Prison island trip in one day which was good to learn the history and see some culture. We also went on the Safari Blue trip which was a fabulous day. Highly recommended. The only other outing was a taxi to Paje about 20 mins away. It was nice to have a wander on the beach and see the shops. Before we went I was a little concerned that there was nowhere you could actually walk out to, but it didn't bother us in the slightest. Staying at Hakuna Majiwe felt like finding a hidden slice of paradise, a real good value for money. It was made even more special by the incredible team that runs the place. I came here with my parents and my sister this summer, end of July approx. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with such warmth and genuine care that it felt like coming home. The staff here aren’t just doing their jobs—they’re truly passionate about making your stay unforgettable. Every interaction, from the friendly greetings in the morning to the thoughtful touches throughout the day, showed how much they genuinely care about their guests' experience. They cared a lot, helping with the suitcases, bringing the food to the room (room service), showing a service and type of staff seen nowhere but as in Hakuna Majiwe. What really stood out to me, though, was the food. Breakfast had a variety in worldwide and local food, which is thanked to try the flavors from Zanzibar. Every meal was a treat, bursting with fresh, local flavors, they tasted amazing, hats off to the chef, who even asked us if everything was good! The chefs clearly put their heart into every meal, and it shows. If we had to mention a downside, we would say that, as we kind of came in a time in which there were no guests, we missed a bit more of activity, animation at the hotel… Though, some new guests came the last 2 days we had there. Hakuna Majiwe isn’t just a hotel; it’s a place where you feel truly looked after, where every detail is taken care of so you can fully relax and enjoy your surroundings. The amazing staff, food and decoration made my stay here something I’ll always remember fondly! Thanks!!

Big thank you to the hotel team, Omar and co! The personal is very helpful, always smiling and kind. The garden suites doesn’t get air condition it is so important in the bed room, it was a nightmare for sleeping. No fridge also, water very hot each day. The beach has got a lot of algae but it was very quiet. We had only breakfast at hotel, thinking that we could eat near the hotel but nothing around, and the hotel did not propose a good price to have the half pension. It is better to take half pension before arriving there. Also please note that you will pay 5 usd per person and per night for tax on check-out, like a 5 stars hotel!!! Whereas Indigo beach is only a 3 stars hotel, it should be only 4 usd. The responsable of the hotel was not understandable.

Overall, very satisfied with our stay at the Blue Moon Resort. We stayed for 9 nights in the suite with a private pool on a full board basis. On the first day, we arrived at 8:00 am. It was indeed early, but we had to wait until 3:00 pm to be given our room. We were exhausted from a 20-hour trip, and it was frustrating that we couldn't get a room to rest. A hotel should be able to accommodate guests by noon, which is the norm. The website indicated a check-in time of 2:00 pm, but we had to wait an extra hour. For a supposedly luxurious room, it felt a bit outdated. The wardrobe was very small, with doors that didn't close properly (allowing insects to get inside) and not practical for storing long dresses that get wrinkled. The hotel really needs to implement a ventilation system; sometimes, there's an unpleasant smell in the room and the bathroom. Therefore, showering with salty water is really unpleasant. A full-length mirror and more light in the bedroom would also be nice to have... Besides these issues, the mattress is comfortable despite numerous comments suggesting it was a bit firm. The positives of the hotel: it's family-oriented and extremely peaceful. Ideal for those seeking relaxation and a private beach with fewer people. The restaurant is à la carte. The dishes are delicious, fresh, high-quality, and presented very meticulously, something rarely seen in a full board hotel. Hats off to the chefs! The only downside of the restaurant is the time. On average, it takes 1.5 to 2 hours sometimes to have a meal because of the time taken for ordering and preparing the dishes. It's not a big deal in the evening, but it's inconvenient at noon when one wants to make the most of their time. The music is perfect, classy, and not a discotheque atmosphere! (If that's what you're looking for, you should consider Nungwi's hotels). The hotel's cleanliness is impeccable. The staff is very attentive and truly cares about your comfort. We want to thank the waiters for their kindness and responsiveness, with a special thanks to Swahiba! We will probably come back.
