Back again! It feels like I'm always here, but it's been three months since my last stay. This time, it was just a quick overnight stop.
Manager Wang, knowing I was coming, even came out to greet us, which made my wife and I feel incredibly welcomed and respected. The two managers at the Grand Tower front desk (one gentleman with glasses, one lady with blonde hair, both manager-level) greeted me with friendly nods and bright smiles. That's the familiar Shangri-La warmth.
I won't dwell on the facilities too much. Let's just say, if I absolutely had to comment on them, the location of Pudong Shangri-La is its undeniable calling card. However, by my standards, the rooms are frankly outdated, or to put it simply, too old and worn. But with the current high occupancy, I don't think it's feasible for Pudong Shangri-La to halt such a good cash flow for a full renovation. If top-notch facilities are your priority, then Pudong Shangri-La isn't for you; there are plenty of other options. I think seasoned hotel guests will understand what I mean.
Since I had quite a bit to drink with friends the night before, my wife went to breakfast alone the next day. Just like last time, there was no one to seat her, and she mentioned that the dining room wasn't very busy that morning. The lack of proper seating at breakfast indicates that this service detail hasn't been improved, or perhaps the service awareness among some of the younger staff hasn't improved. There's more to this later. As I was still resting, the internal service staff provided a takeaway paper bag and drink cups, which was excellent. No fuss, unlike some hotels where you have to explain yourself if you take a little food. In all my years staying at Pudong Shangri-La, I haven't encountered that problem.
Then, I have to talk about the room again. I often stay in room types 60 and 61, but this time, the elevator noise was noticeably distinct. I'm not sure why. I've already provided feedback to Manager Wang about this. Next time, I might need to switch to a different room type.
Also, the Luxury Club has updated its slippers. The material is noticeably better than before. This is something I wanted to mention. Since a major overhaul of the facilities isn't likely for now, it's crucial to focus on these smaller, manageable details. I hope senior management considers our suggestion: do the small things that can be done as best as possible to retain the loyalty of frequent guests like us.
Around 12:00 PM, I went to check out with my room card. The front desk at the Grand Tower (the one closest to the elevator at that time) had a female receptionist, probably under thirty, with a grim expression, no smile, staring intently at her computer. When I handed her my room card, she took it casually, without any polite words or even a hint of a smile. This was the only part of my stay that felt inappropriate. However, given my previous experience with that 'weak-zhi' Xiao Ying at the Pujiang Tower front desk, I don't have high expectations for these young front desk staff anyway. Their turnover rate is high, and I'd bet their overall quality and service awareness are non-existent. For instance, Manager Wang has been at the hotel for over ten years and treats it like home. But these young people from vocational schools, with limited education, lack any overarching service perspective. They're just coasting along, ready to leave if they don't like it. I can picture the unmotivated lifestyles of these young people nowadays.
I won't be giving Manager Wang any lucky charms this time. Much has been said in praise, and the criticisms aren't something that can be changed overnight. But isn't it a blessing for the hotel to have guests like us who genuinely appreciate their stay? So, cherish it well! Oh, by the way, Shanghai has been full of foreigners lately, which is interesting. My wife said she was surrounded by all sorts of foreigners at breakfast, and my friends staying at other equivalent hotels in Shanghai reported the same. It's quite fun! I'll be back at the end of the month. Manager Wang, please have a suite ready for me this time. Don't disappoint me! Haha!

This is an eager five-star review, starting with a special shout-out to Bernie and Grace at the Executive Lounge for their exceptional help and superb coffee! All the other staff were also very nice, and the desserts by the plump chef at breakfast were incredibly amazing. It was a perfect travel experience, full marks.
Now for the specifics. From the check-in date, the experience was top-notch. For my 4-day trip, the front desk offered a room upgrade at the minimum extra cost, allowing my whole family to enjoy a full river view plus executive benefits throughout our stay. The rooftop swimming pool was fantastic; the water quality was perfect, and swimming naked at night didn't feel uncomfortable at all. My baby practically lived in the pool and executive lounge for several days. The breakfast was more Western-style, with unbeatable desserts. The ice cream and donuts were outstanding. The Executive Lounge is on the 28th floor, and lunch is à la carte. I highly recommend the foie gras and wagyu burger – absolutely fantastic. The beef was cooked to perfection, and the tenderness of the foie gras and beef complemented each other beautifully. For afternoon tea, there were various coffee options, and the cappuccino and iced latte I tried were both excellent. The light dinner in the evening was more than sufficient for a traveler; the creamy mushroom chicken stew, grilled sausages, and curry beef left a very deep impression.
Finally, let's talk about the room and hotel environment. Kempinski perfectly replicated the essence of classic elegance. While the room facilities might seem a bit dated, the hotel redefined luxury with its tangible comfort. The room temperature was always just right, and the experience with personal garments, towels, and bedding made you unconsciously indulge in the luxury. Even the blankets by the pool were warm, truly embodying the idea of 'warm service.'
Lastly, to pick a bone, I'll offer some limited suggestions as a guest: Firstly, with the economic downturn, family travel will gradually become mainstream. Breakfast could add some kid-friendly items like smiley potato fries, ketchup, and bolognese pasta, which wouldn't significantly increase costs. Secondly, the glass needs cleaning, especially the panoramic glass at the pool, as it affects the view.
I can't come up with a third point because the experience was truly excellent. I hope they continue their efforts. As a long-established luxury hotel in the 'center of the universe,' it needs to uphold not only its style and culture but also persistent passion and warmth. I will definitely visit again. (The ice cream wasn't replenished; it was photographed after closing, which shows how popular it is!)

Great location, and the facilities are decent. It's super convenient to get to the North Bund, and Raffles City is right across the street for easy dining options. For taxis, you'll need to go to the intersection nearby for pick-up/drop-off as you can't park directly at the main entrance. This was my first time in all my years using Trip.com that I had to show the order number to the front desk when checking in. Usually, all hotels just need your ID or the name on the reservation. It was quite a novel experience. Even overseas, when there's a language barrier, showing the confirmation letter is usually fine, but not here – you absolutely need the order number…

The hotel is located very close to famous tourist destinations like The Bund & Yu Garden. There’s a mall right across the road with plenty of local restaurants.
We booked 2 Queen-sized rooms for family of 3 adults & 3 children, and got 1 room free-upgraded to King-sized for more convinience. We were warmly welcomed by Lucas from FO - the only person can speak English we met during the whole trip to Shanghai. He managed to help us arrange the best room & offered reakfast for my 8-year-old kid.
Delivery service is modern with the help of robot.
It’s quite pity that when we arrived under heavy rain, there’s no bellman assisting us with luggages.

Very satisfied with this hotel! The location is superb, really close to the subway station, and the view of the river and the Oriental Pearl Tower is fantastic. There are also lots of convenient dining options nearby. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. The best surprise was the Dyson hairdryer – so many hotels have old, weak hairdryers, so this was a real plus. I couldn't seem to find any complimentary tea bags though? If there really aren't any, that would be a good improvement.

The reception team was very friendly and professional, and the room was clean. However, the bathroom was not at the expected level, and there was a lot of noise coming from the neighboring rooms. The room was also very small. In addition, there was disturbing construction and maintenance noise coming from the nearby building.
When I booked the hotel, its rating seemed excellent, but after staying there, I found it to be average rather than excellent.

Great value for money, especially for its location. From the higher floors, you can see all the famous landmarks, and the night view is particularly stunning. The hotel is right next to Waibaidu Bridge and the Bund, and Nanjing Road is also within walking distance, perfect for a stroll. The service was excellent too, big thanks to Xiao Wang, Xiao Song, and Chacha! Even though my stay was short, I had a fantastic overall experience!

The location is perfect for Shanghai travel, near different Metro stations, several hunder meters from the best part of The Bund. The vintage building perfectly matched the vibe of Shanghai and staying here feel like travel in time. The view at high floors are excellent and able to see the Oriental Pearl Tower. The facilities are modern. The light switches in the room is traditional and easy to use. Just the front door has several high steps (the staff are very helpful) and the water pressure in bathroom is suboptimal.

CCiky2023Our romantic winter getaway began the moment we stepped into Dino Starry Resort, immediately feeling a warm welcome. Unlike a typical hotel's impersonal atmosphere, the staff here felt like old friends, making us feel right at home and completely relaxed.
Getting to Disneyland was a breeze with their Mercedes shuttle, which departed at our pre-arranged time. Breakfast was plentiful, and our room was spotless and tidy. The overall environment was lovely, and there were even small animals in the backyard that we could feed for free.
The biggest surprise, though, was experiencing authentic winter fun. We gathered around a traditional earthen pot stove, warming ourselves and chatting, or enjoyed a steaming hotpot cooked in a vintage hanging pot. On sunny days, we even had a lively outdoor BBQ with plenty of smoke and laughter. From the rustic charm of the earthen pot to the nostalgic feel of the hanging pot and the vibrant energy of the BBQ, this place had it all.
Dino Starry is more than just a place to stay; it's a wonderful space where you can unwind, leave your weariness behind, and relive cherished moments. Come and gather with your loved ones here, and collect a whole winter's worth of warmth amidst delicious food and laughter!
KKevin*fuxiansenThis hotel is truly thoughtful, I have to give it a good review! Right after checking in, the front desk staff, with a smile, handed me a welcome snack – fragrant popcorn, and even two extra bottles of drinks. This feeling of being valued was especially nice. The room was clean and tidy, the bedding comfortable and soft, and you could see the care in every detail. When you're traveling, the last thing you want is to be hungry or thirsty, and I never expected the hotel to have thought of these little things ahead of time. Although they were just small complimentary items, they perfectly reflect the warmth of their service. Next time I'm in this city, this will definitely still be my first choice!
GGuest UserWe booked for airport transfer from the hotel via we chat. They response very quickly. However the shuttle got problem on the way and could not make it to the airport but they informed us quickly and try to help in every way. The service and their responsibility are impressive. During our stay, the front and the bell are very helpful. They try to help for every request we ask. They cannot speak English but that was not the problem, with translation equipment, the communication is no more the problem.
The facilities are superb. Shower with good water flow, easily adjusted. I really love their shampoo with Sandalwood fragrance, good quality. We stay in zootopia room. The room was designed with nice details. The mattress and blanket are good quality. They even have massage chair at the lobby, very thoughtful for the long day at Disneyland.
The food are mostly Chinese way, but they have some selection for kids and foreigner. The fried vegetables are tasty, freshly from the family garden in front of the hotel. Our family enjoy the breakfast.
The location is good for the ones who would like to have a touch with local not the city. Many local restaurants and supermarkets around the hotel. Easily access to Disneyland. Their Disney shuttle system via we chat is very effective. I picked this hotel because they provide many rounds of Disney transfers. And even we pick other time, taxi is just 18-20 yuan, 10 min away. The hotel is quite far away from Shanghai city 1+ hours by taxi. But it is in the middle between city and Shanghai astronomy museum, which suits us well.
Thanks all staffs for the hospitality.
GGuest UserThe Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund is undeniably the benchmark for luxury hotels in the Bund area! Its century-old architecture is steeped in history, and the central atrium and staircase evoke the charm of a British gentlemen's club, making every photo a vintage masterpiece. The exclusive concierge service, with Emily and Echo providing exceptionally attentive care, ensured a seamless arrival and departure experience. Our room boasted unparalleled river views, with floor-to-ceiling windows directly facing the Lujiazui skyline, making for a truly luxurious and comfortable stay. Their prompt and professional responsiveness truly embodies the motto 'the more you indulge, the more memorable it becomes.' Highly recommended!
GGuest UserThe Peninsula Shanghai, nestled by the Waibaidu Bridge, the Monument to the People's Heroes, and the Bund, might not be described as 'convenient' in the traditional sense, but I found its location perfect for soaking in the unique Shanghainese vibe! The service here is wonderfully old-school and distinctively 'Shanghai' – unhurried yet efficient, demonstrating a clear and deep understanding of guest needs. The rooms are classic Peninsula style, with well-defined functional areas, superb soundproofing, and impeccable cleanliness and maintenance, putting my mind completely at ease. The dining experience was a genuine delight; both breakfast and the Cantonese restaurant in the evening were so memorable. I particularly loved the evening bath ritual – pressing the SPA button and immersing myself in the tranquil, ethereal music, it felt like I was back in a cozy island retreat! My two-day Peninsula experience was a solid 12 out of 10. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Shanghai who wants to truly experience its unique charm!
AAnonymous UserThe hotel has a minimalist Japanese style, with a clean and atmospheric environment. The staff are very friendly, warm, and thoughtful. They offer a complimentary shuttle service to and from the airport on the hour, which is super convenient for catching flights – a big plus!
However, staying for four consecutive days, the breakfast selection was incredibly monotonous and never changed. It got really boring after a while. The late-night snack options were also very limited, with only noodles and congee available – far too few choices.
Furthermore, during my stay, I noticed that the indoor air felt stuffy and poorly ventilated, always with a stale odor. My room was close to the road, so opening the window meant car noise, but closing it made the room stuffy and smelly, which significantly reduced my comfort.
On a positive note, they thoughtfully gave me a small souvenir when I checked out, which was a lovely touch. Overall, the service and airport shuttle were good, but the stay would be much better if they could improve the breakfast variety, add more late-night snack options, enhance room ventilation and soundproofing, and eliminate the stale indoor smell.
EElianaCThis review is long overdue! I was in Shanghai for a business trip in early March, and it happened to be raining heavily then. The underfloor heating gave me the warmest, most comfortable night's sleep, and the duvet cover felt incredibly soft. It was my first time staying in a Shikumen building, and the courtyard was so unique and stylish. Both the courtyard and the room's interior design were absolutely beautiful. The unit I stayed in was located on West Yan'an Road, very close to Xintiandi and the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. It was perfect – I could just stroll back after dinner in Bei Li. Check-in was also a breeze. I saw that the host manages several other unique B&Bs, so I'd love to try them out sometime!
JjaspenI've wanted to stay at the W Shanghai - The Bund for a long time, and finally got to during my recent trip to Shanghai. It wasn't as perfect as I'd imagined.
First, the good points: The environment is nice, and the cleanliness is decent. The staff are very friendly, and the breakfast offers a wide variety. The outdoor bar was the best experience.
Now, for the less satisfying aspects:
1. Previously, when staying at hotels, you could contact scalpers or certain individuals on platforms to use their membership tiers for room upgrades. Since I booked in advance, I contacted them early about a possible upgrade. I was told that if there was an available room type on the day, I could be upgraded. However, on the day of check-in, they claimed there were no rooms available and didn't upgrade me. At the time, I checked the Ctrip app and saw that rooms *were* available. I'm a platinum member with upgrade benefits, and I still didn't get one.
2. My Ctrip booking included two complimentary drinks, but the front desk didn't provide vouchers during check-in. I only found out at the bar that I needed to go back to the front desk to get them.
3. I had a lot of things and wanted to use the black bag in the closet. Unfortunately, it was broken, and the hotel hadn't replaced it in time.
GGuest UserThe room was spotless, smelled fresh, and came with all the amenities you could need. The bedding was super soft, making for a really comfortable sleep. It had great natural light and good ventilation. The owner was incredibly warm and attentive. Fantastic value for money – a perfect stay, highly recommend!
GGuest UserThe facilities are complete, clean, and tidy. You can check in with just your bags. It's very close to the city center, practically within walking distance, making it very convenient for getting around. The price is also excellent, offering great value for money overall.
