Stayed here after a late booking to go horse racing with friends locally. Very easy pre-stay communication, friendly welcome when we arrived and warm, well appointed rooms when we checked in. Also had dinner there, which was decent, normal pub fare without being haute cuisine, but at the very reasonable prices absolutely nothing to complain about. Same with the beer and wine. Breakfast the next morning was perfectly decent- perhaps slightly bigger portions might improve things a little- but again, it was fine. Overall, very good place for an overnight or short stay, with a bit of history to it and hosts who take care to look after their customers. Would happily return.

I am sad to say that, despite the picturesque and historic setting, I am extremely disappointed with my experience at The Harewood Arms Hotel. I arrived tired and worn from a long hot day on public transport in need of a shower and a bed. My initial room greeted me with a strong and odd odour. The bed was unturned, ruffled and littered with short black hairs. The toilet was evidently unclean and dried toothpaste lined the sink. The only towel was crumpled and stuffed in the rail and had obviously been used. I complained and was moved to a different room. The next morning I attempted to get my shower but there was no hot water and it was icey cold. I complained to the morning staff who moved me to a third room. The breakfast is very small with only a tiny portion (perhaps a tablespoon) of the expected items such as beans, mushrooms and one slither of tomato. The bread was so dry it could have been stale. After a long day at work I was looking forward to some hot food as advertised on the website but it wasn't available that evening. I had to get a bus to the next village to my inconvenience. I complained to the staff on duty at the time. I was confronted and challenged by the breakfast staff the next morning as I mentioned about the breakfast in my complaint. There was no attempt to resolve the issue with good customer service. I felt very uncomfortable and checked out feeling saddened by my overall experience.

This is an actual inn built in the 1700's. It have been wonderfully updated with bathrooms in every room - plenty of outlets. The showers are great. The manager and his wife are friendly and wonderful chefs. Clean and friendly. I plan to return. Beautiful location.

My husband and I stayed one night, as it was close to a family wedding that we were attending. General Cleanliness This is very important to us. We are pleased to inform you that the standard of cleanliness was excellent. The bar, bar tables, breakfast tables and handrails felt super-clean to touch - no stickiness The room seemed very clean, as did the bedding. The bathroom had mould around the bottom edges of the shower screen that could do with a deep clean, but it’s clearly old bathroom fittings and your excellent cleaner would probably need more time allotting for a specific task. Staff The staff were friendly and welcoming. A man came from the kitchen area to reassure me about gluten free items I could have for breakfast, including a vegan sausage. He said he would use a separate toaster that would not be gluten contaminated. I was really impressed and thanked him. Bar Meal I ordered a GF chicken & bacon salad, again emphasizing the importance of it being gluten free. My husband ordered Hunters Chicken. My chicken & bacon salad looked fabulous - a generous bowl of fresh salad vegetables with a lovely dressing. First mouthful was delicious. Second mouthful I crunched a crouton (NOT GF), which I took out of my mouth immediately. I then noticed lots more. I notified the bartender who was very good. He cleared it away and said they would re-do my meal. After my husband finished his dish, my new bowl arrived. I was so hungry by this time. I could not believe what I saw. Nothing but lettuce leaves and a few bits of chicken (less than half the original portion). I immediately said to the server that there were no salad vegetables - no tomato or cucumber etc. I couldn’t believe that he left my plate in front of me while he went to the kitchen to check, later returning to retrieve my bowl. It came out for the second time, delivered rather curtly, and banged it on the table in front of me. He said, “There’s definitely no gluten in that” and turned on his heel. I looked down to see he had added one single cherry tomato, and what must have been half (if that) of one very fine slice of cucumber, diced up. There was no dressing (like it said there should be on the menu). It was a very poor plate. I would be lucky if there were 200 calories, never mind the 500+ there were supposed to be. Impact on me I was apologetic for the need to send the food back, but there was no apology from the waiter - the reverse, he made me feel as if I was the problem - in hindsight I should have been less apologetic and more assertive - we had made it very clear I needed to be GF in the first instance. By this time due to one mouthful of gluten contaminated food, my eye lids became hooded as my face and body swelled up. My dress for the wedding was tight and uncomfortable and the inevitable gluten induced tiredness set in. Also, I hadn’t really eaten enough to set me up for the evening so was both hungry bloated and uncomfortable - an awful feeling! Break

Beer tasted like the lines were not cleaned for some time which is very disappointing and rare for a Sam Smiths establishment. Humphry would be very disappointed. Ordered food, which consisted of fish and chips twice and a portion of garlic bread. The chips were undercooked and compared to eating in other Sam Smiths establishments, the portions were miniscule. The garlic bread had to be sent back due to being served frozen. Since eating here previously the standards have seriously deteriated. For a Saturday early afternoon there was a total of 4 customers. Something seriously wrong.

The Sunday lunch has seriously deteriorated. I live in the village of Harewood and Sunday was always centred around a pub lunch. The previous manager made fresh Yorkshire pudding, the new managers serve bought cardboard versions. I ordered pork, I got gammon and there was sweetcorn on the plate. Decided on a sandwich yesterday, stale bread, not buttered, abysmal. This vital part of our community will no doubt end up closing, barely any of the locals go in, me to included. A very sad day when it does.

Went for Sunday lunch with family. What a disgrace. The small portion of Sunday lunch was on a square tea plate. The one slice of roast beef was hidden under the burnt flat greasy pancake purporting to be a Yorkshire Pudding. Raw parsnips, cold sprouts, a teaspoon of smash, cubed fried potatoes and thin gravy made up the rest of the plate. One of us had pork, which was cubed accompanied by a half used jar of apple sauce ceremoniously dumped on the table. No offer of horseradish or mustard for the other five beef eaters. Had we not been with family we would have left, but didn't want to spoil our day. There were only two diners came in after us, who took one look at their meal and left the table immediately. Such a shame because it used to be one of my favourite places to eat with delicious home cooked food and great ales. Sam Smiths Brewery needs to do something about this and quickly.

Went for sunday lunch with family. Firstly they had a decent menu online but when we got there it was sunday dinner only. Then when the food arrived it was the worst food i'd ever eaten. Parsnips were raw. The yorkshire pudding was a flat piece of grease. They'd forgotten the cauliflower cheese and when they brought it out 5 minutes later it was one tiny piece in a little dish. That bad it was actually quite funny. Should have refused to pay but did so anyway. AVOID!!

We have just returned from a lovely visit to this hotel. Rooms were very clean & comfortable with a beautiful view of the countryside. This hotel lacks character, no hanging baskets, pots, solar lights etc making it less warming & inviting! Bar area quiet & drab! No atmosphere at all. The no phones, tablets etc was slightly concerning, but did bring a group of strangers together which resulted in a great night. Breakfast was awful! (Pic attached) Really didn’t want to be negative on here, but feel some positive criticism is needed.
