Our room was right next door to the kitchen for the restaurant. Banging, loud noises until 11 pm; our room smelled like a fryer. Nothing special about this hotel.

Great historical hotel in a beautiful location ,the staff was helpful and the room was nice.
The only thing that could have been better was the carpet it was dated and worn.

Wonderful stay! Furnishings a bit basic, and some noise from adjacent guests, but a wonderful location and staff. Comfortable bed and excellent rain shower. Dining outside on Juniper Terrace very pleasant.

Have stayed here many times over the past 10 years and have to say the property really cries out for a refresh. Super convenient but please at a minimum attend to basic housekeeping.
Major shoutout to the lovely young man who checked us in and gave us our favorite room, then helped us Jerry rig the toilet so it would flush.

Stayed in the Gin Hotel while visiting and touring Virginia Military Institute. Wanted a hotel in town and walkable to the school and it did not disappoint. Easy walk to both VMI and Washington & Lee campus' as well as a variety of restaurants and shops. The rooms were great, very comfortable and upgraded. Parking was tricky as it's in the rear with no access to the hotel, must walk around the hotel once you park the car. It loses a star because of the breakfast, basically all prepackaged food (with very little variety) and you eat it in a hallway unless you bring it to your room .... they can do better, at least open up the dining room for the restaurant. Suggest having breakfast at on the cafes nearby!!

Cool aesthetic but the pillows were uncomfortable and there were no outlets by the bed.
