Just popped in this afternoon to see if we could get a coffee to break up a very long drive home. Would throughly recommend you checking this place out. We ended up have lunch, we just went for a sandwich and panini, really good value and very tasty. Staff friendly, loos clean and car park free. It’s full of charm and obviously a popular choice as there were plenty of people there today. We will definitely use this as a pit stop next time we’re passing through.

My main words to describe this whole place would be “traditional”. The staff were really friendly, the rooms were fine, if not a little dated, and the food was really pleasant. Service was really good from the start to finish and the food was very much like home-made , mum’s type dinner! Rooms in general are in dire need of refurbishment - not because they are worn, but because they are just very, very traditional. If you expect a warm welcome, home-made food, traditional rooms and a super publication you won’t go far wrong. Dinner was traditional, three course and cost just over £30 per person

Have just spent 4 nights at the Metropole. The heating was not on for the first 3 nights and our room was very cold. The dinner served in the restaurant was cold and service very slow. Dinner was listed as 7.00 p.m. for our party and it was 9.00 p.m. by the time our meal was over. The hotel does not warrant its 4 stars

Yet another brilliant conference experience at the Metropole. Ok, the temperature is erratic in the conference rooms but it’s clean and welcoming with friendly staff and more food than anyone needs and all of a very fair quality. There’s ample parking and the location is lovely. I can’t wait to visit again:-)

The Metropole takes advantage of the fact that there is little competition in Llandrindod Wells. Three of us stayed while visiting friends. We had no problem paying more for an independent hotel but it just wasn’t worth it. The hotel was probably lovely in it’s day, but now it’s just tired and past it’s best. Our rooms were all very dark and sparse with mismatched decor. The mattresses were hard and thin like camp beds. There were no USB ports in the rooms and only 1 double electric socket. The socket was under the tv so phones cannot be charged by the bedside. The hairdryer was on a curly cord that had to be fully stretched to dry hair in front of the mirror - so not comfortable by any means. There was a thermostat on the wall, and the general information sheet in the room which stated that the temperature could be controlled. My thermostat didn’t work so I asked about it at reception. I was told that the hotel heating came on automatically - so obviously we can’t control our room temperature after all. I was offered a fan but as there were so few sockets, I had to plug it into the tv electric socket so couldn’t watch tv when the fan was on. Bathroom lights are on a sensor so it’s like the floodlights coming on if you spend a penny during the night. You can’t turn off the light as there’s no switch and it takes a good few minutes to go off by itself. In my room, the bathroom light flickered on and off for a good 8 seconds before going off - it was like a horror movie! The bathroom was clean and bright and has obviously been put in fairly recently. The plumbing groans but that’s as you’d expect from an old building and wasn’t a problem for us. I mentioned the flickering bathroom light to reception as I checked out. There was no apology, and the receptionist didn’t ask if it affected my stay. She just said she’d mention it to maintenance. The food was good, we had some lovely sandwiches at lunchtime and our evening meal in the brasserie was hot and plentiful. Breakfast was also good. Staff weren’t particularly smiley although the bar and brasserie staff were certainly more friendly than reception. Previous reviewers have made similar comments. I wonder how long the manager will thank us all for our feedback without doing something about it? As it stands, The Metropole isn’t value for money.

We got married mid week at the metropole and despite our wedding party being small we received excellent service and were made to feel extra special. Lauren was on hand throughout the whole process and did an amazing job. All our guests were able to check in with plenty of time to get ready. The prices were very reasonable and the food was delicious. They catered for all dietary requirements. There were little touches which made the day extra special. The hotel allows dogs in certain rooms, which was great for one of my guests who probably wouldn’t have attended our wedding without his dogs as the dogs help him cope on a daily basis. A Big Thank You to All at The Metropole

The restaurant and bistro were good. Food lovely. Excellent breakfast. The bistro/bar was modern and attractive. The room was drab and needed refurbishing. The updated bathroom was at odds with the rest of the room. Also downstairs areas need sprucing up. Pool area was fine.

Where to start; we arrived at midday and told we cannot have the room till 4.00pm although our booking included a 12. 00pm check in. The first room, after 4.00pm had a problem with the sensor on the bathroom light. After a maintenance man looked at it the bar man came to change a light bulb. Obviously didn't work. They offered us a second room but the room had a horrendous damp, mould smell. Outside the door the wall was crumbling away under the wallpaper with water marks running down. We said no. They offered us a third room, apparently one of their top rooms. It was big, but very tired. The set of drawers had no handles but sharp metal pieces where they were broken. In the main lounge areas there was a standard lamp without a shade, just a light bulb and every chair and sofa was filthy and worn. Having driven from London for a 2 night stay to see an ill member of the family in the local hospital, we put up with it. DON'T YOU! it would have been grand in its time, victorian, but it is not AA 4 star as advertised. It is utterly disgraceful having this rating. I will be taking this up with them. The waitress in the restaurant was very good.

I chose this hotel for it's appeal with location, and access to the spa facilities. Whilst the price of £190 for a double B&B rate was steep, I was hoping it would leave us feeling rejuvenated. We are a family of 4 with 2 children, therefore 2 rooms at that price each. Some simple tweaks would improve the experience. For example, the warm welcome was tarnished when the receptionist declared the total amount to pay so my family heard. This would be best left discrete for a host of reasons. The rooms were spacious, but dated - there's no plugs next to the beds, and the ones in the room are not USB, so you need your charger plug (as well as cable). Breakfast was ok - cooked buffet, fruit salad, toast, mini pastries (that looked dry), and cereals. They only had soup bowls or plates, no fruit/cereal bowls. The spa facilities were clean, and functional. I noticed others were given a jug of water and disposable cups, though we were not. There was no water fountain to either top up own bottles or the jugs - this would be a simple and effective solution. Very limited relaxing chairs by the pool - I noted 2 that had foot rest, and 6 standard wicker chairs only. There were no stools to perch on whilst drying your hair and it had no ventilation rendering the mirrors too steamed up to see. I was quite shocked a 4**** hotel and spa used a green wheelie bin for clients to put their used towels in. It just didn't exude spa class with that finish. Sadly, it wasn't worth the price for us.
