Smelly, Mouldy, dirty. Cups in room had dirty rings in the bottom, spoon dirty looked as if it had yoghurt on it. previous occupants belongings in room, had to leave window open wide because of the smell of mould and damp. Dirty bedding, many flies in corridor. brown liquid stains all over window sill. Hallway and stairs carpet needed to be hoovered, dirty with dried mud etc.

Having read the reviews we persuaded ourselves it could not be as bad as described. We were wrong. Positives: Staff are friendly and it’s cheap Negatives: No onsite parking available (no disabled parking) Steep staircases, grubby handrails Rooms are beyond basic Showers are covered in black mould No light bulb worked TV in room didn’t work Rooms like prison cells Everything just felt grubby and unpleasant. Other guests smoking in the hallways Mould in the vinegar bottle Dirty cutlery It’s obviously popular with bikers but not for a couple/family.

My friend and I stayed two nights here whilst attending a show at the Builth Wells Showground. We paid £33-ish a night each for bed and breakfast. We had trouble finding a late-ish booking and expected this to be awful for the price but I was very pleasantly surprised by the peace and quiet, the standard of cleanliness and the value for money. We were there on Friday and Saturday nights. I saw nothing of the conditions described in other reviews, and suggest that people make their own mind up by giving them a chance. Everything was fresh and clean throughout. Our bedroom had crisp new curtains. The bathroom had a nice shower, etc (the sink was a little small, and I could have done with a hook or two for my clothes, but this is nitpicking really.) and the water was hot. Bed was comfy enough. And the room smelled right when we walked in. Breakfast was adequate. I don’t eat cooked breakfast but was satisfied with muesli and toast and unlimited coffee. Staff all friendly and accommodating!

Overall the hotel is adequate for a one night stay, the staff are very friendly and there is a well stocked bar. If you are on a motorcycle there is a secure lock up which is great. There is a great Indian restaurant about 200 meters away. Now for the not so good, both mattresses in our room were in desperate need of replacing and there was a strong smell of damp in the corridor. Breakfast was good apart from the beans, a shame to spoil a decent meal by going ultra cheap on one thing.

This is a budget hotel and for three of us on a short motorcycling tour of Wales it suited perfectly! Locked covered storage for our bikes was a very good start. Decent bar with free pool table and friendly locals maintained the good experience. The rooms were basic and I’ve slept in more comfortable beds but clean, warm and perfectly adequate. Rooms had decent showers, breakfast served until 9.30 and a really good curry house just across the road. Really can’t fault it. Would I choose this place for a romantic mini break? Probably not but that’s not why we selected it. For our purposes it was spot on and thank you for a very pleasant stay.

I never actually made it through the door as I read the reviews just before and canceled my booking the day before and found a lovely place 1/4 mile away. The reviews were unbelievably bad, possibly the worst I have ever seen. Ironically when we arrived at the other pub there were four undesirable drunks in there and they were just being asked to leave. The bar staff apologized for their behavior and said that they don't normally come in here and that they usually drink in the Hampton's. Another reason not to go there. Avoid at all costs. There is a lovely place just behind Tesco's, go there instead.

As a group we had been looking for a cheap hotel to get our heads down each night. First impressions on arrival was okay. States that they have a car park which only had space for 4 or 5 cars. 3 places filled by 2 cars that I assume were abandoned vehicles. due to flat tyres. When arriving in reception to get booked in we struggled to find any members of staff. Keys just thrown on the desk and told to go and find our rooms.. no directions given. The room itself was not awful for £60 per night for a couple. Rather tired but relatively clean. The toilet flush was the loudest thing i have ever heard. we had only been looking for a bed and a hot shower. The mattress was the most uncomfortable thing I have ever slept on. I have had a better nights sleep in a soaked wet through tent in -8 temperatures. The rooms are noisy with music from the bar screaming and shouting of locals outside the bar threatening to stab each other. Our first night we took advantage of the attached restaurant Worth your Salt. Should have known better considering it was a Saturday night the place was empty. Food arrived after a fair wait. Food all arrived luke warm at best little to no service available to even raise this as an issue. Lots of food left as was inedible. The second night is when it got weird.... if we could have found alternative accommodation we as a group would have left. What I can only describe as the local druggies had been frequenting the bar. We decided to have a few drinks as a group... this was the most unwelcoming and intimidating situation I have ever been in. The locals were rude and happy to confront us even though we had been minding our own business. The threats of our vehicles being stolen from our side the hotel. To the point we moved the vehicles to an alternative location this is just the icing on the cake I could go on for hours. I wish I had read more reviews before booking. If I could zero stars I would. I have never felt the need to write a review before but if this prevents someone else suffering the misfortune our group did, I feel I have done my job.

I realise this is a budget hotel but that’s no excuse for the rooms smelling of cigarette smoke, the bed was extremely uncomfortable, you can hear every word and noise from the surrounding rooms, meaning a good nights sleep is not on the cards. Also the temperature in the room was freezing with no way of turning the heating on to warm the room up. Room decor is extremely dated and poor, a lot of marks on the walls. Bathroom in need of upgrading and new I would suggest new duvets given the stains on the one I had. To top my stay of someone had stolen the batteries from the remote meaning I couldn’t even use the tv. Would not recommended staying here.
