The staff were great and very helpful although do seem to be constantly training new recruits. Generally you feel relaxed. Food isn't great but its not bad either. It is the best hotel in the town but does not feel like a top class Protea. More like a corporate driven entity rather than a unique experience - quite impersonal.

Compared to the protea in Klerksdorp this one is 10/10. The staff were brilliant from reception to the dining room (the only improvement i can suggest is the security guards outside- their energy should match the inside staff). The room was immaculate, cozy and clean. I booked there for two nights and both I ordered room service the food was great and get this they had different room service menu for each night. Same with breakfast they had different menu each day and the food was always on point I.e. fresh and delicious All in all I really loved everything about my stay at this hotel. It's the little things that makes a great stay like how they would do check up calls to the room each day to ensure your room was up to standard.

If you have low expectations and time on your hands, you will strike gold (possibly platinum) with a visit to the Mahikeng Protea hotel restaurant. The single bottle of wine for the table took so long that the thought struck me that the poor waiter had been dispatched to Stellenbosch by three legged donkey to get it. On his return from van der Stel’s encampment and somewhere between our table and the place where orders are ‘punched in’, the hapless rider of the tri-limbed mule was accosted by highwaymen, who robbed him, cruelly stealing pages from the book where he had so diligently noted our orders. Evidence of the robbery manifested itself when the sauces and sides ordered at the start appeared as we drew our cutlery together signaling the end of a meal so bland grown men sobbed as they recalled similar meals they’d enjoyed at the Siege of Mafeking. The same signal heralded a realization that one entire order had remained in the starting blocks like a deaf sprinter who couldn’t hear the gun. The game here needs upping very badly. Very badly.

We were in Mafikeng for a weekend. Stayed at the hotel for two days just when travel started again after the pandemic. The hotel is on the main highway to Botswana. The breakfast was good and the amenities were fine. The staff was also friendly and well trained. They are restaurants and a mall nearby. Would recommend it for anyone who may be in the area.

We had initial problems with Bonvoy status but these were resolved by the manager Joe Madiba in a very professional way. The Hotel is a very nice hotel and breakfast is exceptional All of staff very friendly - would definitely stay again

This hotel is the worst Protea hotel that I have stayed in . Reception totally failed to recognise any of the Marriott Bonvoy Platinum benefits .On our arrival day it tool 6 hours and 7 requests to get a simple bath towel for the third person in our room. I asked to speak to the Manager Mr Modiba but he was not present in the Hotel for the 3 days of our stay. I was also told there was no Duty Manager on duty . Absolutely failing management which is most unusual for a Protea Hotel

I arrived in 39 degree heat on Tuesday at lunchtime only to be told that there was no booking for me (The fabulous Rennies again). The receptionist then went onto blatantly lie to me to say there was no accommodation available. When I noted that I was there for three days and would put the bill on my own credit card, there was a change of heart and they let me in. Again I was presented with a room with two giant double beds in it - surely this is a waste? Then came dinner, again I ordered the rocket, sun dried tomatoes pasta and got something that bore no resemblance to the dish so ordered. Par for the course. At least all Proteas come with toiletries and this room with a nice bathroom. So I had a lovely bath and went to bed. By the following morning Rennies still had not paid, and I was told to pay up or vacate the room. How embarrassing. DO NOT USE RENNIES TO BOOK ANTHING FOR YOU. The rest of the day was a repeat of the first, the wrong food delivered etc, I have officially given up and I will take my own food in future. I will stay at the Marriott again because I like their rooms, they have desks and nice amenities. other than that, steer clear of the food if you are vegetarian.
