Amazing!!! Will definitely come back in the future...room rates are pricey but you get what you paid for. Food was like dining in a Michelin star restaurant. They have different types of onsen to suit your needs, from spacious onsen bath to deep bath and bed type bath.

We loved this place! We stayed only one night (at the back end of a few days hiking on the Nakasendo Trail) but we truly enjoyed our stay. Perfect for some well-deserved relaxation after the hike! The hotel is a mix of a Japanese ryokan and Western style hotel - and part of the Relais & Chateaux network. After a couple of nights in more traditional ryokans, we had chosen western style rooms / bedding (very comfortable) and the French style dinner (which turned out to be fusion French / Japanese, it was delicious!) and we didn’t regret it. The onsen baths (3 different ones) are great, a very relaxing and pretty space (views out into the forest), and we enjoyed a massage at the spa. Lovely welcome and efficient service too. We wished we had stayed a bit longer!

The staff, service, facilities, and room were top notch. Once our stay was booked, we received an email questionnaire. We are both vegan and they accommodated our preference. asking for our preferences. You can select between Japanese and French cuisine. We both opted for Japanese. When we arrived, they staff greeted us kindly and it was a delightful surprise to be led into a room filled with Christmas decorations. We booked the "Standard Zen Suite" and were not disappointed. It comes with your own private indoor-outdoor onsen. It was heaven. If you are new to onsen, they also provide helpful instructions upon arrival that you can read. It was my absolute favorite onsen experience. There are three different onsens for guests, each separated by gender. They also provide popsicles, hot/cold tea, in addition to the standard shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hair tonic, skin lotion etc. When we were there they had two shuttles which ran from Matsumoto Station to pick you up. One at 3:15 pm and another at 4:30 pm. We would both love to return!

This was a gorgeous property with incredibly top notch luxury service. The Zen Suite is designed beautifully in a "Japandi" aesthetic that is exceptional. That suit also has its own private indoor-outdoor onsen, though the other onsens on the property were also beautiful indoor-outdoor onsens where we could feel the winter air as we soaked in the hot water. The dining was impeccable and they had amazing vegan Kaiseki courses. In addition, the lounge area was gorgeously decorated in Christmas tinsel and birch that made it feel like the most festive atmosphere. Everywhere the property felt like it blurred the indoors and outdoors while retaining a sense of warmth. This is not a cheap property, but it is actually good value for the price.

This is a Relais and Chateaux property so we were expecting it to be a much nicer place. They are closing this year for a total redo of the property. It needs it as there are spots on the carpet and the furniture, etc. it tired. I realize this is a traditional Japanese styled Inn, but it needs updating. The door to bathroom is a self closing one that is hard to open. It was most annoying to deal with. Very odd for a bathroom door. Place is in a pretty setting, Breakfast was a preset menu so it is what they serve you. It was fine, but just not great. They take your shoes when you enter so if you want to walk around outside in the lovely woodlike setting, you need to ask for your shoes back. There was a gentleman that raked leaves into piles that left messages and then he sprinkled flower petals on top of the leaves which was very pretty. The coffee service in the room was too complicated. It was a drip format but it was hard to do without spilling coffee all over. This is an Onsen hotel so many people go here for that reason.

Beautiful traditional Ryokan in the outskirts of Matsumoto. Member of the prestigious Relais & Chateaux chain, this superb property offer 2 types of cuisine: Japanese and French, both excellent (although we had a little preference for the Japanese one!) Our room was very large with a beautiful view and a large private onsen. The service is excellent, attentive and very professional.

Magnificent room with beautiful view. The baths are of excellent quality and attentive service. The only downsides were that it was very hot in the shuttle connecting us to the station and the blinds were not sufficiently darkening. Otherwise, very good experience, to recommend without a doubt

Wonderful Ryokan adapted for foreigners but maintaining Japanese hotel characteristics. Clean and elegant rooms. Great food, both Japanese and Western. This relais chateau has courteous and functional service. Great option for a quiet place in the middle of a forest with a very beautiful river. Offers western breakfast.

I visited the day after it snowed and enjoyed the snowy scenery. After considering several lodgings in Matsumoto City, I decided on this one, even though it was far from the city center, because of the hot springs and French restaurant. The room was a natural type, and the space was comfortable, including the half open-air bath. I think I will request this room again next time. Dinner was French on the second floor. The food was gentle, mainly made with local ingredients, and the presentation was wonderful. You can choose the amount of wine pairing, so you can enjoy it with peace of mind. Each time the food was served, the sommelier told a story, adding depth to the food. There were many people celebrating that day, and it was impressive to see the staff making such a wonderful presentation. Breakfast was Western food on the fourth floor. It was a great memory to start the day in a comfortable space with the morning sun. Perhaps because of the humidity from the snow, the old building parts smelled a little moldy? I also noticed a smell, but it seems that they are being renovated one after another, so I think it will become a more comfortable space. The large public bath was the type that day where you could take a long soak in lukewarm water. I couldn't explore the snowy roads, so I'd like to come back in the season of fresh greenery. It's a bit far from the city center, so I recommend it to those who have time. The rooms and meals are both very satisfying.

This is my second stay here, and last time I was on business, so I wasn't able to eat, so it was a very hectic stay. I took it easy this time! There are many places to relax, such as lounges and open spaces, and the baths are large and numerous, so you can take your time.

My first experience at Myojinkan in winter. As always, the hospitality is wonderful, but there are some concerns. Individual ratings below: French 5 The French here is always fun. A series of dishes made with lots of time and effort, using plenty of local ingredients. In particular, I am always impressed by the pairing with wine pairings. This time, I'm going with Funky Chateau's 2019 white. Service 5: The staff's willingness to respond to customers' requests will make them more favorable, even if the customer's requests are not met. Now, here's a slightly harsh evaluation. Spring quality: 3 As usual, it is neither particularly good nor bad. It's really a shame that it's not available. Water temperature: 1 The temperature of the hot water in each open-air bath seems to be 37.5-38℃, but this is Matsumoto mountainous area in winter. It's extremely cold, and at this temperature your body feels warm at first, but soon your body temperature becomes equal to the temperature of the water, and after that it's just chilly and you don't feel like taking a long bath. Thanks to this, the number of customers is sparse and we can have the open air all to ourselves...but I think we should raise the temperature by 1.2 degrees Celsius. Heating: 2 Matsumoto in winter. It's normal for it to be cold in the common areas, so I don't have too many complaints, but it's quite difficult when the only heating in the room is an air conditioner. The warmth in the upper part of the room tends to make you feel lightheaded, but the chill persists. It's so cold in the morning that I wake up. I think it will be necessary to install underfloor heating during the next renovation. Wi-Fi: 2 Contrary to the heating, although there is Wi-Fi in the room, it is almost impossible to connect in the common areas. Since the amount of investment is small, I would like to request immediate improvements. Japanese food: 3 When compared to French food, it becomes completely hazy. You need a dish that makes a strong statement. Pairing sake also only comes with three types at the beginning, and there are no pairings with the food. At this rate, it will be difficult to visit again in winter. It's my favorite inn, so I want you to do your best.

I had told them that this was one of the places my elderly mother wanted to stay before she died and that her birthday was the following month, but I never expected such hospitality, and was constantly surprised. I was especially grateful to Kobayashi-san, the service leader who was in charge of our room. My mother seemed to feel the same way, and if I could ask Kobayashi-san to be in charge of our room next time, she would be able to come alone! She negotiated with him, saying, "Can I ask him?" When we checked out, we received a letter from the spa, and here again we were moved and teared up... We were exhausted from the busyness of everyday life, but we were soothed by the many thoughtful touches. On our walk after breakfast, we even saw a squirrel. It was a trip that touched our hearts. Thank you very much.
