There is no view from the room, and the windows are half-covered because there are private houses opposite, probably for privacy!

We loved our stay at the Hoshina resort in Matsumoto. The rooms were beautiful and the onsen was heavenly. I wish I'd stayed longer just to keep enjoying the onsen facilities! The staff were very friendly and helpful. I didn't stay long but did enjoy the piano playing in the evening. We also had the tasting menu and both dinner and breakfast were spectacularly presented. If there was one thing to improve it would be to make air conditioner both lower and stronger. It was very hot out and we had a hard time cooling the room down enough. Also, the dining room walls could use a bit of a refresh.

The room is spacious and the view is beautiful. There is a separate hot spring in the room for you to soak at any time. There are also more than a dozen hot springs in the large bath. Taking a taxi from Matsumoto Station costs about 2,700 yen. If you take a private train and get off at Kita-Matsumoto Station, it is cheaper to take a taxi.

Stayed at 2 Hoshino Kai resorts this trip and I would say the service at Kai Alps was much better than Kai Matsumoto. The food at Kai Matsumoto was very much better than Kai Alps though. So all in all, we really enjoyed staying at Hoshino resorts and cannot wait to explore more areas! When staying at Hoshino resorts, I really do recommend getting the special dinner and in room onsen.
