Chamarel
We stayed here for a few nights as part of our honeymoon and it was incredible. They only had space for us for a few nights and we wish we could've stayed longer. It also meant we weren't entitled to any extras so if you are hoping for some, make sure you book longer. The staff are some of the nicest people you will come across. Check in was smooth, we were driven to our room and showed around. We stayed in a mountain view room and loved it, amazing views and a private pool! It was a bit cold though so would be nice if it could be heated. There is a path at the end of the property but we didn't see anyone aside from staff, it really feels like just you. This is the best place we have ever stayed, it's hard to describe but the way it is all laid out really gives you seclusion everywhere and you feel as though you are on a retreat away from the rest of the world. It is beautiful and we loved walking around seeing it all. It is a lot of incline walking at some points so if you need assistance the golf buggies are available. The sea bar is amazing, we were so lucky to see a gorgeous sunset on our first evening there. Unreal views and there are different birds and wildlife around always. This is different to any place I have ever stayed at and we could easily have spent 7 nights here. It was mostly couples too so everyone respects your privacy and never felt crowded. The food was the best we ate during our whole stay in Mauritius, it was all presented beautifully and tasted unreal. One night I asked for a dish without fish and the chef offered a substitute instead which I wasn't expecting but shows how generous the team are. The desserts were also incredible. I had a hot stone while we were there, hands down best massage I have ever had. The whole spa set up is so lovely, you have to get a treatment if going. It's very well priced too. We also got the shuttle down to the beach one day (the restaurant there was closed on the day we went) but there are food stalls in the car park too. We also did the Black River Gorges Park and rum factory while on the way - another must if you stay there. You can actually cycle from Lakaz too. There is a restaurant next to the resort we didn't try, but with the sea view bar you don't really need to. Pack mosquito repellant! A small thing but our mountain view room was in need of a little tlc outside, there were weeds all in the path and the stones around and in the shower looked overdue a jet wash. The outdoor shower is a lovely touch too, but the temperature can take a little while to get right so does mean you waste water in the meantime and it did go cold while using it at times. I also felt check in was a little slow I think as there were a few arrivals at the same time.
