I had my doubts after reading some of the reviews, but there was no need to have worried After travelling along a few narrow streets and thinking where have we come we arrived at a lovely hotel with a very pretty courtyard full of trees, shrubs and plants, an ideal spot to sit at any time of the day. We were greeted warmly by a lovely receptionist who spoke excellent English. Our room wasn’t ready but that didn’t cause any problem because we could leave our luggage and we wanted some lunch. Ordered lunch at the hotel and was very pleased with it Our room was on the 4th floor, but the lift was adequate for us and our luggage, and what a lovely, spacious room it was. There was a sun terrace on one side, great for morning coffee, and a balcony on another which had the evening sun. Bed was very firm but big and we slept well so it didn’t matter. There was plenty of wardrobe space and drawers. The shutters are a bit antiquated, but work and darkened the room for sleeping Shower room was very nice, there is a step up to the walk in shower but, even with us having mobility issues, this didn’t cause a problem Rooms were tidied and cleaned daily. There was teas, coffee, milk and sugar provided which were replenished daily and a small kettle. The fridge had bottled water in which was added to the bill if used. Breakfast choices available were scrambled egg and bacon, cereals and cakes non of which I tried, but I did have the breads, meat, cheese and croissants. There was also a pancake machine and toaster with a selection of preserves and butter. Help yourself to drinks from the machine and even take one outside into the shaded courtyard Evening meal was a different menu each evening with a choice for starter and mains but only one option for dessert. The choice was limited but adequate and everything I had was very tasty. No need to be hungry as there was also a cold buffet with vegetables, salads and breads. If you don’t finish all your bottle of wine they will keep it for the next evening or you can just take it outside to finish off. The staff were very nice and friendly and most spoke very good English. Didn’t use the swimming pool but it did look inviting The hotel is within walking distance of the main town and we walked to the Fenicular Railway and recommend you take the trip up to Montecatini Alto for lunch

We stayed at Hotel Reale for 4 nights in September 2024 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff are lovely, friendly and helpful. The food at breakfast and dinner was excellent. The outside sitting area and the swimming pool was charming - and light lunches can be ordered from the bar. The hotel is only a minute's walk into the centre of Montecatini Terme, which is a beautiful and very interesting town. We recommend a trip on the Funicular railway up to Montecatini Alto, the old town, which has restaurants, shops, churches and views. Our room, although small, was kept clean and tidy by the lovely housekeeping staff. The only downside, for us, was the unusual showering arrangements, which we had not encountered before. There is a tiny bath, with a shower over it. The bath has a raised 'step' to sit on at one end, and the shower curtain is very long and gets tangled round your feet when showering. Altogether, it is quite difficult to keep your balance when showering, and the high sides of the bath make getting in and out quite a challenge. Thank goodness for the 'grab rail'! I don't know if all the rooms have this arrangement, but it's something for the elderly or those with restricted mobility to consider when choosing a room when booking. On the 'plus' side, the water pressure was amazing - as someone else has said, it's better than at home!! :-)

Montecatini Terme is an ideal location for visiting nearby cities like Firenze, Pisa and Lucca via train. This hotel is located 5 mins walk to the train station. Friendly, helpful and hard working staff (especially the resteraunt staff and the lovely chatty lady with long dark hair in main reception/Bar area) Lovely garden with a pool. Tasty food. Clean and tidy rooms. Plenty of seating areas inside and out. We booked through TravelZoo and it included a welcome drink on arrival. A bottle of wine. One glass of Prosecco with our first meal. It was half board. Also included was a return ride on the funicolore tram to Montecatini Alto (hidden gem) with a wine tasting session. This was our first ever visit to Tuscany/Italy. Travelled from North Wales via train to Manchester Airport. And then travelled via trains all through our trip. Easy to understand and we didn’t get lost! Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you.

The staff were fantastic- really friendly and helpful. They all speak English and made us feel very welcome and comfortable. Our room was a standard room but a good size with a huge very comfortable bed. The decor is a bit tired and old fashioned. The swimming pool is big enough to be able to swim in and changes colour at night so a night time swim is a lovely experience. The food is extremely mediocre, so if food is an essential part of your holiday experience I suggest eating out...but the staff really work hard to make it a good experience. It can be quite noisy - noise from the courtyard seems to travel upwards but if you close the windows it quite effectively shuts out the noise. Apparently the air conditioning only turns on when a certain temperature is reached so we preferred to gave our windows open. The hotel is very well situated for the station , terme tetuccio, terme redi (the thermal treatment pool) and the funicular railway. The touristy bit of town is an interesting mixture of grand buildings and derelict buildings - it is quite intriguing.

Hotel was in a good central location for sightseeing by train, only 10 minutes walk to station. Rooms basic but we had a balcony which was a bonus, Rooms cleaned everyday t a high srandard. We stayed on a DB&B deal, food was average but breakfast was not good, needs to be improved , no fresh fruit, dry sponge cakes, hit or miss that the rolls were fresh, which was a shame as this really let this hotel down. But if you want a good location and take the food as it comes then worth a try. Just seem to think they were working on a tight budget for the food which was a shame

Perfect hotel to experience the real ‘local’ Italy away from the big brash hotels yet close to popular tourist spots of Florence and Pisa. With the added attraction of the Funicular railway up to the old town. An hotel owned and run by three generations of the same family which a great friendly atmosphere and very helpful staff.

We went to this hotel as part of a group booking on a half board basis. Can honestly say it is the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. The hotel is dated & access to the rooms is via an antiquated lift with barely enough room for two people & luggage. There is a staircase (not ideal with cases). On arrival at the floor (1) there were additional steps to negotiate (7-8) before we got to the landing. The rooms were very basic with very hard mattresses & bricks for pillows. The bathroom was also basic. We had a small shower cubicle in ours which had quite a step up into it. The shower was built out from the wall giving very limited access to move without opening the door or turning the shower off!! Dining was the worst thing. Breakfast was very basic & not everything was fresh. There were never any staff around to replenish. The evening meal was awful. Felt like a school canteen. Very limited choice & what we were given was minimal & tasteless, served from a trolley. Deserts included tinned fruit cocktail and a Vienetta” style chocolate ice cream. Hardly the usual Italian “Dolci” standard. This is not a hotel we would recommend & would defenitely NOT use again.

The small traditional hotel is so charming. Ideally placed to visit Florence, Pisa, Lucca, Viareggio and Pistoia. Montecatini is a beautiful town with the addition of the Alto to visit by funicular. Thank goodness the air con at the hotel is really efficient, needed when it was 36. All the staff work hard and the family owners are always around too -were in the dining room every night. The breakfast and evening meal were authentic Italian home cooking. We enjoyed every bit of our seven day stay.

We stayed for 6 nights at the hotel and enjoyed it. We payed extra for a balcony which for us was worth it, and stayed in room 452. The room was clean and basic with a tiled floor and plenty of hanging space. There was air conditioning which worked well but it did struggle when the temperatures hit 40 degrees. We payed 3 Euro's each for pool towels which were of a good size and quality. This, of course, saved on space and weight for luggage purposes. The staff were all pleasant and helpful and seemed to work very hard. The food was fine and was well presented, but you did have to choose from limited options. My favourite was the ham and melon. The nearest station to the hotel is Montecatini Centro. The only issues we had there were the reliability of the ticket machines. There were three of them, only one of which was accepting plastic cards. You can pay by cash, but some of the machines refused to accept notes. There is another station Montecatini Terme-Monsummano which is further away, still walkable, but seemed to be in better condition as we had no problem with the ticket machines there. If you are planning a trip to Florence this is the station to use as there is a bus replacement as far as Pistoia, and then train to Florence. We found the trains to be very good. I downloaded the Trenitalia app to plan our trips and found this to be easy to navigate. We always bought our tickets at the station, although it seemed easy enough on the app, as there is no saving on regional trains by booking in advance. We flew via Pisa, and visited Florence (too busy), Lucca (very nice walled town), and Pistoia (go on market days, Weds and Sat). Montecatini is nice and we visited most evenings for gelato. The funicular trip to Montecatini is worth doing, we enjoyed the wine tasting and ate out at one of the restaurants (Platera, I think). It got very busy from about 18.30, so you might consider booking if you are going to be later than that.
