The Dragon Hotel

A very traditional hotel in the middle of a lovely quiet village. The hotel itself was outstanding. All the staff in there were amazing, friendly and welcoming. Probably give the restaurant a 10/10 too. Menu wasn't that big but the quality and presentation of the food was second to none. (I'd recommend the lamb rump if you go) Room was really clean and had that cottage feeling to it. If you want a peaceful getaway this is the place to go. Plenty of countryside to see if you fancy a stroll. I'd highly recommend this hotel, just what the doctor ordered after a long day's work. I will definitely be back.

Just a two kilometre walk to this centrally located hotel from the Offa's Dyke trail. Old building with rooms full of character. Room large enough to lay out two suitcases. Very warm room but a small window which opens allows for some air to circulate. Need to use the supplied fan. Overlooks beer garden but noise not a problem after 9.00pm. (In fact, a very quiet night). Unsecue WiFi - difficult connect. Good cooked breakfast available. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Pre-booked lunch for a group of 18 cyclists on tour. Firstly what a great building, lots of different spaces which meant we got our own room. The group had been through some very wet weather and the team here were quick to provide heaters and plastic bags for wet gear. Nothing was too much trouble, we felt very welcome and very well looked after. Just the most brilliant sandwiches…..half of us had chosen the fish finger sandwich and no one regretted it. Chips, onion rings and a great selection of beers too. Very recommended.

First visit to Montgomery. Stayed Friday for one night. Everyone is dedicated to making your stay the best it can be. Beautifully prepared spotlessly clean room. Attentive service from people who obviously enjoy working there. Excellent main meal and breakfast freshly cooked and served piping hot. If you are visiting mid Wales then book in here. You won't be disappointed.

I can’t fault this lovely place Staff on reception are so helpful and friendly Room is clean cosy and very comfortable… please upgrade the hairdryers… The food is outstanding here, all seemingly locally sourced ingredients and cooked to perfection, I only wish I could have tried some cake in the afternoon with my beautifully made latte! Breakfast is first class! They are doggy friendly and she was welcomed warmly with staff always asking if she’d like a water bowl. Nothing is too much trouble for them. Such lovely people. You have to stay here if you’re visiting mid wales… I was on business but have decided I will return for leisure in the fall to see the countryside and all its autumn colours Thankyou to all the team here for really making us feel welcome!

We decided to book a last minute stay as we wanted to make a weekend away & didn’t want to drive home after a long day of walking & sightseeing. We stayed in room 20. It was a small double but had everything we needed for one nights stay. The bar staff and receptionist were very pleasant. We had a few drinks in the bar and had the veggie curry dish which was delicious. Unfortunately we hardly got any sleep as our room overlooked the outdoor area and due to the noise of other customers this continued well after midnight. The room was extremely hot and we had no choice but to open the window and listen to the loud noise. We even considered leaving as it was so bad, but was so tired it wouldn’t have been safe to drive home. The breakfast in the morning was ok. We handed the keys over at reception and wasn’t even asked if we had a good stay! (Different staff from when we checked in) Unfortunately due to having very little sleep we wouldn’t return again.

Stayed over two nights whilst on a tour of Wales. Our room was spacious and comfortable. Didn’t have any bedside lights but this was rectified quickly when we mentioned it. We dined in the Bistro on our first night. Very good meal and service. Had Welsh lamb perfectly cooked. Not many vegetables and non available as an extra side dish. Reserved a table for the following night based on the first. Got shown to the bar area for our meal the second night. Bistro didn’t seem to be open. Had an over cooked burger and fries. Very poor meal, average service. Breakfast each morning was poor. Service awful food average and generally dreadful attitude of the staff. Cutlery missing, self service area not replenished, Quiet frankly the woman on duty didn’t want to be there and it showed! Table cluttered up not cleared etc. Such a shame as we experienced the highs and lows in two night stay. Many of the younger staff need some guidance and training.
