All of the staff went above and beyond expectations. They ensured our comfort and were incredibly knowledgeable about the surroundings. The atmosphere was welcoming and absolutely breathtaking. Our guides, Francisco and Jeffrey, made our family trip extra special.

The lodge and its staff were incredible. I can’t give it enough praise! The food was top notch and probably some of the best we had on our trip. The feeling of being in the jungle and surrounded by nature and wildlife was a real treat. The staff were very friendly, super helpful, and did everything to make you feel at home. I can’t recommend this place enough. It’s a must stay!

The lodge is in the jungle on the mecal river. There are plenty of activities to do right there. The guides are amazing and know their birds. Everyone who works there was friendly and nice

Just adding to the collection of wonderful reviews: our visit was the same. From Isiah’s welcome greeting at the airport, our night tour with Andy, Virginia’s smile every time we came to the restaurant - we felt instantly comfortable and it was hard to leave. The tour connections were made easy, our eleven year old son had the best time and I’d highly recommend Black Rock as their location in the jungle is perfect, we were in cabin ten but it felt like all cabins were tucked away so it always felt secluded. Food was brilliant every meal as well!

Black Rock Lodge is a truly special place in Belize. Me and my wife spent five nights in a Riverfront Deluxe cabin and had a wonderful time there. High points of this place are the location, staff, food and activities. Minuses would be the lack of AC in a hot and humid climate, but it is manageable and I think they have a few cabins with AC. We were picked up at the airport by Jeffry and he drove us to Black Rock with a stop at the Belize Zoo on the way. The Zoo is worth it, it is full of animals native to Belize that have been rescued. Jeffry was very informative there and on the drive to Black Rock. After a long day of travel we had an excellent dinner. We spent two full days just at the lodge enjoying the birds, river and the property. We also visited Caracol, Mountain Pine Ridge and the Green Hills Butterfly Farm. We did a night drive and one early morning birding on our last morning before checking out. Roque was our guide for all of the excursions and he was excellent. He is a great birder but he also gave us a ton of information at Caracol and just general information about Belize, San Ignacio (Where he's from) and anything we had questions about. He also used to work out on Ambergris Caye so he had tips for us for our next stop out there. We had also planned to go to Barton Creek and go birding at Spanish Lookout but unfortunately my wife was a little under the weather for a couple days. The staff were very accommodating in this regard. Victor helped us rearrange our tour so she could rest up and the waitresses were all very concerned and offered tea, medicine and anything we needed while she wasn't feeling well. There's nothing worse than feeling sick while away from home, but the staff made it feel like being taken care of by family. Virginia and Lynette were so nice and caring. The staff at Black Rock are really what make the difference and this is the best staff I have interacted with at any hotel/lodge/resort that I've stayed at. I think the most important thing to keep in mind is to set your expectations. If you're looking for a plush resort with every creature comfort available, this probably isn't the place for you. If you want to be immersed in nature, in a stunning, remote location and learn a wealth of information about Belize and all it has to offer then this is the place to be. I generally don't do well with heat and I was able to adjust to 90 degree weather with 75-80% humidity. I sweat a lot but it was worth it. There are some bugs, but no mosquitoes. The food is excellent. The cabins are very nice and spacious and the views are stunning. The birds, reptiles and howler monkeys are spectacular. Once again, the staff are amazing. I can't say enough good things about them. Black Rock is a special place and absolutely worth visiting.

It is hard to know where to start..but most of the earlier reviews and pictures do tell it all. We had an amazing 4 nights here and cannot recommend this establishment more highly. The entire staff are amazing - helpful, friendly, professional and talented. They arranged airport transport for us as well as the day trip to Tikal, Guatemala and the cave tubing. Everything on time and as planned. Meals and bar were also all 100%! We mostly loved enjoying the main room, the bird life and the peace and calm. We will be back with more family and friends for sure. This was our first eco-lodge experience and it set a very very high bar. I cannot imagine a more wonderful place to immerse yourself for 4 days or a week. We were here at the end of the dry season; looking forward to coming back for a new season soon. Thank you, Black Rock Lodge and all your staff, including: Fernando, Ruben, Andy, Victor, Lynette, Derrick and ESMIL!!!!!

Honestly marvellous. The setting is lovely in the wee valley with the river, and our room was wonderful. There were two hammocks, and the wife got sunburnt. The food in the restaurant was lovely and the staff were all friendly and helpful. One practical point: there was a big water dispenser in our room and there's free water dispensers in the bar/restaurant area, so if you're concerned about water in this often hot country, you're fine here. Also I should say that we were staying in the room furthest from the bar/restaurant and, as their website clearly says, there are 70+ steps to go up every time you want a pint. BUT, I should also say, I'm an incredibly lazy and unfit man, and those 70+ steps are a lot worse in your head than they are in reality, so don't fret too much about that. Oh, finally, there's a wee bird table by the bar that they put fruit on and it attracts mad birds. We saw four toucans on it at once, once. Bonkers.

Our Travel Agent suggested this Eco Lodge for a 3 night stay. The journey from Belize airport is a good 3 hours, 2 on good roads and 1 hour (and this is the part you travel on for everything you do) is rough. As suggested previously a 4x4 is a plan. We had a local driver/guide (Eddy) who knows the road well. Once it rains it’s impassable! So having arrived, we were welcomed (the manager seemed aloof, never once engaging with us…) and lunch was chosen - this happens every day FYI. The view from the dining area is lovely of the Marcel river (sadly the flow is controlled by the up stream dam and so water flow is erratic). The food in general was fine but the wine was a disgrace. Bottles of red wine, unopened until at the table, were ‘off’. We tried 2 different types and both were totally undrinkable. We watched as others tried and rejected too. This somewhat took the edge of the evening meals…. Cocktails by Lynette were delicious though!. With lovely details as decoration! The room we had was a pleasant walk away from the central area and had a good sized balcony overlooking the river. As it is an eco lodge, we knew there wouldn’t be A/C or hairdryers etc. there is a ceiling fan that moves the warm air around. It was 40+ degrees. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was fine. There is a man made small beach with a couple of clam seats. There is also a swimming pool, but on the second visit it was green….. They have chickens in enclosures, a kitchen garden and a pleasant walk you can experience. We also took part in the night walk, but sadly this is such a ‘pre planned’ event, one felt a little cheated. The guide was interesting though.

I stayed here for a couple of days and it was amazing! Everything was great, nice staff and clean rooms. I would 100% recommend this place. They don't have AC but they can provide as many standing fans as you want for your room, just ask. Thanks.
