Ojai Valley Inn

Amazing a beautiful place, but you need a hard to get reservation for everything on the property so might as well stay somewhere cheaper and just visit. They give zero preference to people actually staying there.

Like many folks, have been coming here for many years. This summer is different. While the property is always lively, the resort seems chaotic and just poorly managed. Specifically, for families, who probably make up 70%+ of guests during this time of year, it’s crazy. There are not enough tables, chairs, resources etc for us. Though there are four lovely pools at the resort, only one allows kids under 16 and it is a madhouse. There are about 50% the usual amount of chairs, and lines ten families long just to get a spot to sit. My kids and I had to sit on the floor with our towels, not exactly what you expect for around $1k/night all in. An easy solution would be to simply open one of the other THREE pools to families, escape given 2 of them have hardly anyone there. A typical five start property would address this quickly and make adjustments, as rumor has it the entire summer has been like this. But that’s not what “Upper Management” is doing. Why? Who knows. But I have to echo the sentiment I am hearing all over the resort this week. Things have gone down hill and seem so easy to fix if someone just engaged and provided the kind of attention and leadership you’d expect from a resort of this caliber, price and reputation. I hope things can improve but if not I’m sure folks will start to look elsewhere.

I’ve been going to ojai valley inn every year or two for the past decade and it’s always been a magical time, but the experience this past visit just didn’t hit the mark. The grounds were beautiful as always, but there were too many issues that shouldn’t happen when paying nearly $2k a night at a 5-star resort and really took away from the weekend. 1. Check-in is supposed to be at 4pm, but we weren’t give our suite until 530. They gave us a hospitality room to pass the time. The hospitality room smelled like someone had just gone to the bathroom in it. Considering we splurged on an expensive suite but were cooped up in stinky room for a few hours, it was a crappy way to start the weekend (pun fully intended). 2. We came with our two kids (a 3 yr old and a 4month old). I asked for cribs when booking months in advance and called on the drive to ojai to make sure wed have them. The cribs weren’t in the room when we checked in. I asked for them again when we left for dinner and called the front desk once more while at dinner just to be extra safe. We had gotten a late start on our day due to the checkin issues and I knew the kids would be exhausted when we got back to the room. We got back from dinner and the cribs still weren’t there. After the fifth call, they finally came by with two cribs. The kids ended up going to sleep an hour and a half late… 3. Our suite was gorgeous, but very secluded so we relied on the shuttle service to get around the property since we had a lot of stuff to lug around. The shuttle service is usually great but this time they must have been understaffed, as it was completely unreliable. We ended up being late to multiple meals since we had to wait 20-30 minutes for a shuttle. Speaking to some of our neighbors they were all complaining about the same experience. 4. There’s nothing like coming back from dinner to a room that’s been turned down. Unfortunately we were only given turn-down service one of the nights. I’m assuming the cleaning crew was understaffed too since they knocked on our door at 9pm for turndown service after both of our kids were asleep, and we had to turn down the turn-down. 5. When we checked out I was planning to pass along my feedback, but the front desk didn’t ask how our stay was, so I figured I’d just provide the feedback here if anyone from manages keeps track of online reviews. I live in LA and ojai is such a close trip - it’s the perfect getaway. I was eager to come back for years to come as my kids grow up. Maybe this was just a bad weekend for the resort, but for the price I paid there were too many frustrating moments to justify the cost. I’ll probably check out some other SoCal resorts before coming back.

This is a great resort to stay at if you can shell out the $. It's relaxing, luxurious, has all the amenities including free bike rentals, pickleball courts, shops, many dining options. I loved the little touches like the free ojai oranges, the box of chocolates, and really accommodating staff who to get you from pt A to B on the property. Whether you valet or self park, it's $40 per night per car which for the stay being hefty already was a bit much. It would have been great to have free self parking.

The Ojai valley Inn is an amazing place. It is extremely beautiful. It is a great place for families. You will definitely enjoy your time there.

Everything was amazing. Property is relaxing and clean. Golf course was a pleasure to play. Beautiful views. A good challenge. Excellent condition.

Once again the Ojai Valley In delivered. Great service, property, rooms, and amenities. The service was excellent and they away over deliver. Could not recommended it enough.

4th visit to Ojai Valley Inn. Loved every minute. Will keep coming back.
