Initially the place smells nice. The staff are very supportive and have a good attitude when dealing with concerns I had. The lobby was alive and I really enjoy hotels that aren't dead and feel empty.
The hotel is in downtown which means you're near most of the places of interests (cafes, restaurants, etc). The river is in front and the walk is truly nice if you need a quick place to exercise or talk while walking). Downtown has a level of risk you take when walking around especially at night. (most cities do) In terms of safety in the building, I felt safe and relaxed. The elevator requires a room key to get around so that adds an extra measure of security.
My room smelt good and contained everything I needed. The view was nice but the only issue I had was that a portion of my rooms carpets smelt awful. I noticed this when kneeling near my floor to pick a few things up.
Regardless, I had a great opportunity with the $25 credit they give you to spend in the restaurant or café. I think this is a great place to come back to if I'm ever in Portland, they treated me like family.
