Absalute rip off charged my relatives £750 for a cold buffet that probably cost £50 to make also charged £45 pound for us to bring our own cupcakes in they also took the buffet away 1 hour before the do finished without even asking anyone and when I complained to the manageress she wasn't even bothered absalute joke of a place

The staff were lovely. The rate was very good and appropriate for the property. There was lots of space for parking which was very useful as we had a bike rack on the back of our car. Our bed and room were clean, just a bit 'tired'. The breakfast was very good. This is a refection not a criticism: the hotel had an air of post-Covid. For example the staff had had to have the billiard table taken away and the decor was in need of freshening up. No complaints as the cost was very inexpensive.

I absolutely love this hotel. Room 8 is immaculate. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. It's nice to see staff actually enjoying their job and taking Great pride in their work. The tavern is fab, I had the best meal. Great menu, I had the Pork and my wife has scampi. The guy who checked us in was very efficient and genuinely friendly, the bar staff was fast and catered for all. The hotel is in a beautiful location and I can not recommend this hotel enough. We will be back. The bed is so comfy and room is huge. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

When we arrived there wasn't anyone around, after a few minutes the receptionist appeared. Check in was 4pm, we arrived at 2pm. She said the room wasn't ready which is fair enough, we said we're going to a wedding so we won't be back at 4pm to check in, can we check in now? She said yes, we paid and then asked about how we get keys, is there a code for the front door for guests returning after midnight, are there any local taxi firms she'd recommend etc. Just got blank stares about all the questions. We googled taxi companies, which are few and far between and she said there's always a night porter on duty. Wasn't very helpful. The room was spacious and clean, toiletries provided and pleasantly surprised to find a USB port to charge my phone in the room. No staff in the dining room for breakfast, had to wait until someone appeared. Breakfast was terrible, the english breakfast was swimming in grease and all the glasses and mugs were dusty or dirty. Had a bit of toast and left. No one on reception when we left, so just left the key in the basket. The hotel needs an update, the decor is very old and outdated. The rooms, very nice for 1 night, but I can't see myself returning to this particular hotel. It wasn't very busy, so don't know where all the staff were hiding! Didn't use the bar, so can't comment on the bar.

Checked in on Sat 19th needed to go to the toilet so used the facilities by reception. Turned on lights obviously not busy so not needed, appreciate that however when got to the toilet cubicle the water was brown.....I will leave this to your imagination. Simple flush and gone. Lights had been off so would hate to see how long that had been like that. Simply not checked for cleaning. Given room key pad number. Went up extremely creaky stairs and hall way. One point in the hall to rooms was so soft on the floor it felt as if was going to cave in! Got to room and opened door room seemed nice enough. NO. The room door looks as if it has been opened with a crowbar at one point. Shut the door and the pure filth and dirt on the moulding on the door was a disgrace. The carpet and curtains were stained in places and the wall paper was also peeling of in areas. The room its self was freezing cold but I do understand you don't want to be heating empty rooms. Once turned the storage heater on it did warm up. Some of the switch/plug sockets were loose and some which felt dangerous and very highly worn on the brass effect. Went to the bathroom and I burnt myself on the towel rail. Didn't expect it to be on as the storage heater wasn't! The back of the door and the door frame was again filthy the bathroom floor was dirty with hairs, dust and skirting where full of dust. The bath panel was cracked and the plug was not attached, lining paper coming off the walls and an extracter fan that didn't work. Again the toilet was dirty so I went to clean with the toilet brush. OMG it was disgusting!!!! I won't expand on the bathroom any further. Went to close the curtains in the room and the window sills again were dirty and the curtains weren't even on the rail properly so when closed was a massive gap which as we were near the front meant the light from the sign shone through all night. Just to clarify to you all I would have raised this with the staff in leaving to make them aware about the issues but no one to be seen. We did go to the tavern and the food was lovely but tables dirty and it wasn't busy. To put this in to perspective we went in at about 7pm ish and on a table there was an empty cigarette packet that was still there at 11.15pm when we left. Whilst the staff were pleasant they were not on top of maintaining the cleaning/tidyingup. I have worked in hotels and restaurants/bars myself and I know you can have a laugh whilst working but there is no excuse for the lack of cleaning. Again the toilets in the tavern were dusty and had cobwebs in the cubicles at least there was no brown in these!! Overall the room we were in was just plain dirty and tired as is the hotel. It's such a shame as this could be such a lovely hotel. Cleanings doesn't mean you have to break the bank!
