My husband and I stayed at Le Meridien Tahiti for two nights before heading to Moorea and Bora Bora. I'm sorry to say it wasn't the most impressive of our trip, but at least preferred this hotel to the Intercontinental we stayed at when we got home (please refer to my other reviews if you have an argument). Starting with the room, we were upgraded from a standard room (we are Starwood members) so we had a better view of the Khao Yai pond (which was pretty neat), the ocean and the water villas. The room was spacious and clean - well equipped bathroom with bidet, two sinks, separate toilet and shower, and a window looking into the bedroom (traditional Starwood style, which I love!). Facilities are standard class Starwood amenities. The bed was very comfortable and we slept very well. However, there is a story to be told about the hotel service. Don't expect to start honeymoon mode as soon as you arrive at the hotel. The hotel doesn't care what you do in the hotel, in fact they are hard to find and there is no more than one receptionist. It was a bit hard to get over that, we were on our honeymoon the day after we got married, so we were still in the excitement phase, but were spoiled by the atmosphere of this hotel. Especially with Starwood properties, we would have expected to feel warmly welcomed, even if it was written on a note, like other Starwood properties do. The hotel is a bit dated and there isn't much to see or do. The pool is great and there is a small sandy beach to walk around or kayak. The surroundings of the hotel are not very pretty, but the lobby doors are nice. One thing that still confuses me is that we couldn't find the hot spring, we walked around the hotel signs, knocked on several doors, but couldn't find it, so we didn't get a massage. Internet is free and there are many computers available in the lobby, but the computers are small. We went to the Italian restaurant next door for a convenient meal, walked a little further, walked to the mini mall, bought some hard to find French brands (such as Nuxe!), and went to the grocery store to buy some food Drinks are prepared in the hotel. Food is not great. Breakfast can be buffet or sit down. Breakfast was our favorite as it was just opening and full of fresh cheeses, fruit etc. However, lunch and dinner were average, nothing to speak of. We even ordered grilled fish one night which was delivered to the house and it was dry and tasteless, my husband poured sauce all over his portion to get some flavor. Also, my husband is allergic to nuts, but none of the hotel staff understood. We asked the head chef, the front desk and the manager, and no one knew what was going on - it was horrible eating here, not only worried about someone accidentally putting nuts in our dishes, but also worried about how bad it would be to go to the hospital slow. The shuttle bus to the town is very expensive per capita. Of course, it is also very far away, and it will take a long time to return. The traffic is bad and the town is a little run down, but if you want a discount on Tahitian pearls, this hotel seems like a good place to get them. The town is small and you can get around quickly, we did it all in under an hour. All in all Le Méridien was a good choice for a one night en route to Moorea and Bora Bora. It was great to be able to use Starwood points, and the room was big and spacious. I wish we were only here for one night, but we spent most of our time resting for jet lag.
