Aquila Porto Rethymno

We wanted to try somewhere new so we opted for Crete. Chose the Rethymno area and in particular the Aquilq Porto Rethymno hotel. We certainly made a very good choice. The hotel was spotless from top to bottom. Checkin was quick and simple just what was needed after being awake for twelve hours. We booked all inclusive, we missed the lunch session in the restaurant but the cafe bar was open so we could get something to eat. The room was clean and spacious with the complimentary bottle of sparkling, still wine, water and bowl of fruit. The room was equipped with a safe( complimentary) and a minibar( the snacks in the minibar were not included) which was replenished daily. The all inclusive included a number of premium brand drinks you are given a list of what is and isnt included at checkin. The food was plentiful and refreshed regularly. There was something that even a fussy eater like wouldn’t go hungry. The beach was just across the( sometimes very busy road but crossings weren’t far away). There are sunbeds and parasols ( complimentary except for the two rows nearest the sea) with a bar service which was also included with AI. The evening entertainment was low key but ok. Hotel location brilliant just a short walk(10 mins) from the old town with lots of bars and restaurants. The best feature of this very good hotel was the staff, from management to cleaners they were all friendly cheerful and eager to help that certainly makes a good holiday better. My only negative is the wifi which although included was not very fast and had patchy coverage. Would we go back? Most definitely, already looking at possible return dates.

They are trying to rip people off by charging €4.5 for water during INCLUDED meals. FOR F!@ing water !!! I have bought a 5 nights trip with breakfast and dinner included and I found out you have to pay for water during meals.. Been traveling a long time and I have never seen something like this.

Need to work more on room cleaniness. Found hair on bathroom shower head pipe and hair dryer not powerful enough.

Where to start; the staff are great, always smiling and helpful; the breakfast choice was fabulous, the hotel is spotless, the location is great, the free sunbeds on the beach (which picks up the free wi-fi). The room was spacious, clean and well equipped and we had a sea view; it also had an amazing jet shower. We had a spa treatment and it was brilliant, and the pools were well maintained and refreshing. Relaxing in the evening listening and watching (and taking part) to the local entertainers was a nice way to end the days. Lovely place and probably one of the nicest hotels I have stayed at, in no small part due to the amazing staff at every level, being greeted by competent, smiling and friendly staff in all areas of the hotel and beach really makes a big difference. I have travelled extensively and this is definitely one of the best holidays I have had.

This is without doubt an amazing hotel. We were in room 414 and although we did not get the sun on the veranda for us this was a plus as the room did not get too hot, although there was air conditioning if we required it. The room had plenty of hanging and storage space. The room did not have a bath but a walk in shower if which we preferred. The bed was extremely comfortable. The TV was just okay but did not have an HDMI outlet to plug in a Chromecast to it (something that more and more hotel TV have). All in all we were very pleased with this room. The staff at this hotel were amazing and go out of their way to please guests. The attention to detail from them cannot be faulted and they were always on hand to help in whatever way they can. A big five star thank you goes out to them all including the room cleaners. I must mention one point here. It clearly states that there is a dress code for dinner. Some guests tried to ignore this but we're turned away. For me it was the correct decision by the restaurant staff. I am a difficult eater regarding spicy food and so was a little concerned regarding Greek food. I need not have worried as their was such a vast selection of different food that I could pick and choose and in the fourteen days we were there never got bored with the food. One small criticism that my wife and I have is that the entrance to the hotel reception is up an arc stairway that because of the shape does not have the banester all the way along it and this can become an issue to handicapped people. I am sure it was designed to complement the hotel but it is not very user friendly. Lastly it was a very busy area and I was of the impression that we would be a little secluded but it was just the opposite. So if you want an excellent hotel located within an area of restaurants and bars then this is the hotel for you. Do also take the hop on hope off bus. It's a nice 90 minutes trip.

We had a great time at the hotel. Perfect location for the old town of Rethymno and the beach. Staff were friendly and made us feel welcome. We stayed in room 318 which we highly recommend and the hotel is well maintained, with a good choice of food. We will definitely come again!

Aquila Porto rethymno is absolutely wonderful. The staff are extremely friendly and hard working. On arrival our luggage taken to room whilst we sat with a welcoming juice. The general manager Eftychis is watching making sure all goes smoothly. The food is good and plenty of choice. We had a room overlooking the sea which was spacious and comfortable. The bed and pillows comfy. The wine in room on arrival lovely. We had fresh fruit brought to room. Nice fluffy towels replaced often. The beach is opposite hotel where we had free sunbeds and beach towels supplied. Twice a week the management distribute juices or watermelon on the beach free of charge. Perfect .
