We are a family of 6 on a tight budget and when we booked there were mixed reviews about this hotel so we weren't really sure what to expect. Well we had a great week there. All 3 rooms were spotlessly clean and comfortable. The hotel and pool area were spotless and well maintained. Breakfast was plentiful and so relaxing. Being in a small, family run hotel has definitely changed the way we holiday. Can't recommend this place enough.

I arrived here, as a solo female traveller at 1am, only to find the reception building locked up (front and back) and in darkness. Not a great first experience, alone and after a day travelling. After finally getting through to EasyJet, it transpired that a note had been stuck on the front door advising me of my room number, and that keys were in the door. Not easy to spot, being totally dark, plus unacceptable, as could be accessed by anyone. Cannot understand why I was not advised by text/email. Hot water was not always available, but most of the time was there. Accommodation is pretty basic, (no microwave), bed was uncomfortable, but cleaning and changing of sheets/towels was done every other day. My room was ground floor, adjacent to a busy road, so could be quite noisy with motor bikes, lorries etc at night. Not terrible, but my stressful experience on arrival was not a pleasant one!

Just spent a week here in room 102 it was supposed to be self catering didn’t want a fully equipped kitchen but did expect more than one ring and a kettle. Couldn’t even make toast. The noise from the National Road which was just outside was incessant the motorbikes and lorries were the worst. Our front door which opened onto the room showed daylight through the panels. But the worse thing by far was the lack of hot water. Never any in the morning tepid at about 5 and on the last full day none at all. When I asked about it I was told “no sun”. The shower head was broken and held together with black tape and hung down unable to support itself so no way could you stand under it. I was told this was the Greek way. Been to Greece for the last 25 years have never been told that one before. When it rained we had to sit on the bed as there was only one kitchen chair and no table inside. The bed was so uncomfortable my partner had pain in his knees hips and ankles it felt like he’d been in a road accident. It was advertised as 3 star I’d struggle to give it one. Never again.

Typical Greek family run hotel. Well maintained outside space with great pool area. Rooms are slightly dated but perfectly adequate. What makes this place stand out is the staff. Mr Gold and dimitris are the prefect hosts in this chilled out hotel set away from the main resort. We will be returning to this little gem of a place

The hotel was clean, the staff was very welcoming and kind, the room was clean and the bed linen was clean, also the pool was good and in general the environment of the hotel was good. The breakfast was good for the money we paid. I would recommend others to go to this hotel for its price and everything else.

We stayed in mid-June as a couple booking 6 nights through EasyJet holidays. We had room 202 which was a two bedroom apartment, with pool view and located above the main building where the bar/reception was. After the first night, we decided to move hotels, however, because we had trips booked we couldn’t find a new hotel until after the third night. The hotel was not as advertised. The aircon was additional charge but we paid it anyway although it insufficient, old and no better than a fan. The room was around 26°C at night, aircon on full, see photo my temperature gauge. Other reasons existed for the move such as no hot water, noise, etc. but the relentless heat was the trigger to move. We agreed with the hotel we’d check out and seek a refund for the nights we didn’t stay through EasyJet who had subbed it to Hotel Beds and this would be the only way. I explained I was very sceptical, but repeatedly promised that it would be fine, it felt they’d done this often. We’d already made the decision to move regardless of cost, because a holiday at the Cretan Sun, for us, wasn’t a relaxing and comfortable holiday but something to endure. EasyJet couldn’t get a refund for us from Hotel Beds/Cretan Sun, as they denied all knowledge of the conversation. EasyJet did compensate us though, so I’ve no issues, just a warning really. We didn’t expect 5 star for the price, but we do expect what’s advertised, and this was not the case. I’ve stayed in some seriously basic accommodation in my life, but the Cretan Sun has far too many issues. There are just lots of issues with the hotel. We visited 4 or 5 others in the area before moving, and all were better to be honest. Take your chances I guess Warning: The photos online do not represent the room, more so than any other hotel I’ve stayed at. The amount of ‘creative licence’ taken in obscene. Room As mentioned, the single air con unit is an extra charge, but doesn’t really work anyhow and was 26 degrees at night by the aircon. Its located in the living/room second bedroom. In the actual double bedroom, with double bed, it was 28-29 degrees as there was no aircon unit there. There is a fan, but it's poor, weak, rusty and blowing only hot air (see photo) The main room is a twin, so we had to sleep in separate beds to get limited benefit of the air con. There are not really power points so it was difficult to find a good location for the fan, charge phones etc. There is a window in the main room which means at 6am, it's becomes very light in the main room. There is no curtain and its light during the night, and very bright at 6am, it's terrible. See photo of it at night The room wasn’t really a sanctuary, we didn’t want to return there most nights and endured it Bathroom The shower is round the wrong way for the screen and so a lot of water gets on the floor. It's also a tiny, so someone like me who is 188cm barely fits in it. There is a little step for sitting which makes it even more cramped, it's probabl

Our second visit here to Cretan Sun & won't be our last, we love it here, the hotel is a small family run business, the staff are great, really friendly, helpful & make you feel very welcome. The rooms are spotless & cleaned with linen changes regularly. The pool is always clean & plenty of sunbeds. The bar has a good choice of drinks & food. Overall the hotel gives a very relaxed & friendly atmosphere. Perfectly situated for us, 10 min walk to town & beach, lots of choices of tavernas all very good. You can easily get the bus into Rethymon. Can highly recommend this hotel & area.

Just returned from our stay here. Typical Greek 2 star hotel - Basic, clean and small hotel. Close to amenities approx 5 minute walk to the "*****" where you'll find restaurants, bars and shops all offering fantastic selections to suit any taste buds, budgets etc. Beach is about a 7/10 minute walk. Shingle/sand so beach shoes are a must for dipping into the sea. Breakfast is in a lovely little dining room, with tables outside. Plenty of choice for breakfast to please all (more than other small greek hotels ive stayed in) Unfortunately for us we had a leak in our bathroom ceiling (room 108) advised the team, but nothing was done about it. Which is just a shame, as would of score higher if sorted out or able to move room. Pool is a lovely size, with a children's section. Ample amount of sun loungers to soak in the sun all day long and relax. AC is extra at 20€ a week. Most definitely worth it in the high heat. Old Town is a must and the staff are more than happy to organise a taxi for you (approx 10€ each way).
