The Grove

We found this hotel to be an ideal place to stay in St Davids. It met all our needs. It had the feel of an historic house with a very large walled garden to protect one from the sea breezes. The car parking was generous and part of the hotel grounds. It was located in an ideal spot near to the Tourist Information Centre, a local beauty spot and the amenities of St Davids City, with its beautiful Cathedral. It has the great advantage of providing food all day long. The food is of excellent quality and is very reasonably priced. It is an ideal hotel to suit the needs of a variety of different people. The staff are very friendly and helpful and lounge, bar and dining areas are within easy reach. The room facilities are basic but attractive and are kept clean to a high standard. They are well decorated. The corridors could do with freshening with the addition of some tasteful paintings or photographs but the beds are very comfortable. It would be good to see the wording - "Full Welsh Breakfast," instead of "Full English," to give the feel that the hotel is in Wales. We found the music a little monotonous and loud. More soothing music would be better with perhaps, some Welsh items eg harp. This hotel seemed to be making great efforts to please the clientele and look for ways to improve. There is great potential. Its history is interesting but not written up yet. There was excellent tourist information available. We would definitely return for a stay in this excellent hotel.

Walking distance to Main Street x

Staff were very hard working and welcoming. Ample of parking. Easy walk into the city. Able to cater for dairy and gluten free diet. The only downside was the room smelled of damp and affected sleep.

Cara, the manager and her staff were extremely helpful and accommodating. The hotel is central to Saint Davids, and the coasta lhiking paths. We would highly recommend booking a boat tour of the neighboring islands. We would also recommend hiking the nearby coastal path at Saint Nons, along the cliffs to the beach. They were breathtaking.

My husband and I decided to take a break with our 10 month old puppy to St David’s so booked a 2 night stay at The Grove. The room we were given was clean had a really comfy bed. The bathroom was a decent size and had a great shower. There was plenty in the tea and coffee selection in the room and it was topped up daily. The staff in the bar and the restaurant couldn’t do enough for us and was great with our puppy, who was well out of her comfort zone and very noisy at times. They were attentive providing doggy treats for our puppy and some great local knowledge. The food and drinks were reasonably well priced and they were more than happy to accommodate any request. I can’t fault any of the staff who work so hard to make everyone’s stay a memorable experience. I would definitely book there again if I was in the area.

Stayed over just the one night. OK the fabric of the room was a little tired, and maybe old fashioned, but it is obvious that the management and cleaning staff have done their very best with what they’ve got. The room was clean and comfortable, bed was good and we slept well. Staff were exceptional. On arrival it was so very busy (due to an influx of people standing on the perimeter of the front watching the carnival go past). It was obvious that the two bar staff were struggling to cope. Queues at the bar, and loads of glasses on tables! Nevertheless the staff were so welcoming, pleasant and efficient. And really hardworking too. Within a short while all had been sorted, they honestly never stopped! Reading some reviews I’m a bit perplexed. Yes it’s not the Ritz (but not Ritz prices either). But for the price it’s certainly more than adequate, and we enjoyed our stay. We will be back! And as for the moan about the noisy crows! Yes there are a LOT of crows, and they are noisy but the hotel can hardly do much about them!

Disappointing bar closed early room wasn’t ready

Firstly the staff in the bar and restaurant were lovely. Very friendly and welcoming. The bar, seating area and restaurant looked well kept. Shame I can’t say the same about the rooms. A friend and myself stayed for two nights and were shocked when we saw the rooms. They were grubby and tired and in much need of a complete overhaul. For the price charged over one hundred pounds per night, no breakfast included it was overpriced. I’ve stayed at nicer, cleaner places for a lot less. We chose to have breakfast on our second morning before leaving and what can I say? I had scrambled egg on toast….well if you can call it toast. It looked like the cheapest thin cut bread you could buy and if the person cooking the breakfast thought that the bread had been toasted then they shouldn’t be doing the cooking. It was totally inedible so for one cup of coffee and two eggs scrambled it cost nearly eight pounds. Needless to say I wouldn’t recommend this hotel or stay there again.
