Paradisus by Melia Gran Canaria

From the moment you walk through the door at this hotel you feel like a VIP. We initially came the property when it first opened and as avid Melia travellers we were keen to see the Paradisus brand in Europe and we were not disappointed. This was our third visit and we had our wedding ceremony and party here. Manuela our wedding planner has clear skills in event planning, event management and took a genuine interest in our wedding far exceeded our expectations. Her efficiency, creativity, and unmatched attention to detail ensured that every aspect of the wedding was perfect. The entire team that work here deserve the highest praise. I have worked in hospitality my whole career across various brands, and I have never experienced a team with genuine care and love for their work as we witnessed at the Paradisus. Every single member of staff was amazing—warm, attentive, and professional. We were so touched by the handwritten cards left in our room on several occasions – on the last evening we even had a card with a printed photo of us with all the staff who served at our wedding. This was the most intimate and sincere gesture. Every staff member greeted us by name and congratulated us on our wedding made us feel incredibly special. Our oceanfront room was stunning—its beauty and serenity provided the perfect space to relax and reflect on our unforgettable celebration. We also cherished the tranquillity and exclusivity of The Reserve private space, which gave us peaceful moments amid all the excitement. I would recommend couples looking for a more adult only experience to upgrade for a quieter pool option and for access to premium drinks. Across the hotel property the food and beverages experiences were extraordinary. In our wedding day in particular the food was spectacular and the ambience was elegant and luxurious, and every detail was seamlessly executed. It exceeded all our expectations and created memories we will treasure for a lifetime. Food and beverage across all outlets was divine and having a group of 50+ guests, we knew it would be impossible to cater to all tastes (many of which work in hospitality / cheffing) however all guests could not praise the hotel enough. I could name every single member of staff however the below team member truly made us feel so special; Raquel in Kanna & from our wedding day (who went above and beyond on looking after us on our last night spent with our immediate family), Roberto & Jamie in the shack, Manuela, Adriane & Carlos in the sales team, Claudia who served us in multiple places but was so much fun on our wedding day and Kevin in Guest Relations who assisted in our hour of need when we realised no one in our wedding party could tie a bow tie! A nice hotel with a fabulous pool area, outside pool was set at a reasonable temperature. Generally, pretty reasonable food, however be very careful of ordering the burger in the 24 hour bar as i am sure this gave me extremely acute food poisoning. (sick 12 times during the night) Given i hadn't left the hotel, had drunk minimal amounts of alcohol, it obviously had to be from the hotel food. It was ironic actually as we'd intended to eat from what we thought was a fish restaurant but realised it was more suchi & so after eating a virtually raw scallop i gave the rest of the "raw" fish a miss & ate the burger in the bar. What was slightly concerning is that apart from an apology from the hotel reserva & asking if i needed anything i heard nothing else from the hotel even though he took my room number, upon checking out i again mentioned it to the receptionist who basically shrugged it off which made me think it was quite a regular occurrence for them so be warned. It's only the 2nd time in my life i've had food poisoning & the first in any hotel anywhere in the world. I still have no idea whether they actually even looked into it , checked the burger or mayonnaise that came with it so be very careful

Great hotel. Pools Never had a problem getting a sunbed around the pool whatever time we went down. We are late breakfast eaters & there was always loungers when we got down. The pool we found cold they were supposed to be heated but have to be honest they weren't particularly warm. 2 smaller pools with 1 larger one. The is a food outlet called the Shack I found the food excellent here. I loved the burger here though generally I am not a fan of burgers these were of exceptional quality. Really thick patties. A towel box to grab a towel anytime you want. No cards & no deposit. Also ice creams available here. Food This was a contentious one with a lot of people moaning about the food being cold. Some of the food was cold which I don't really have a major problem with. There was something for everyone with some stuff that I can honestly say I have never seen in a buffet before such as razor class which I didn't eat as I have no idea how to eat it. There was lamb chops, steaks, scallops, tuna steak, duck, chicken, prawns, cray fish & plenty of pork on offer in the Mina section. Desserts we're probably the best I have even eaten pure luxury. Other than that plentiful cheese, bread, fruit. A stir fry where you chose your raw ingredients & some dude cooked it & some Italian stuff that got made fresh. Al la carte We went to Kanna & to be honest it wasn't very good.I had my steak blue but it wasn't a very good customer be honest. Then our dessert never came despite us asking numerous times. Eventually it came but the brought a cheesecake instead of cheeseboard for one of us. The staff were really nice to be honest but pretty hopeless. Bars I loved GinGer bar the drinks were excellent (all branded) although I did get bored of Cruz Campo after a week. The po*n star martini was excellent & very close to what we get at home. The food was also good. Vibra was OK too just behind GinGer it served cider & there & had a completely different food menu although the food wasn't 24 hour unlike GinGer. Rooms Excellent. Large with rain shower, roof spinner, excellent air conditioning too. The was like a little iPad thing on the wall which you could alter everything & turn the lights off with which was excellent. Mini bar filled every day with 4 water, 2 Cruz Campo, 2 Heineken, 2 diet coke, 2 coke, 2 orange & 2 fruit juice, bag of crisps & chocolate bars. Rooms cleaned daily. Animation team The animation team is quite low profile but I did water aerobics & there is also some crafts going on. Also the resort is right on the beach front so you you can access to the beach by the gate at the front. I personally don't go to the same hotel twice but if I did I most definitely would as it's an amazing hotel. Massive thanks to all the staff particularly the crew at GinGer bar.

stayed at this Hotel in September reason for late review is have been waiting to hear from Jet 2 after complaining my Husband and i are not happy with there reply quite unhelpful and without proof there are unable to take the matter any further, although the Hotel itself is clean most of the staff are so friendly and helpful we had a big issue with the food not much of it and also raw food left out in the heat of the dinning area, cross contamination no staff to supervise guests, we saw other guests using the same utensils to handle raw meat and then vegetables as a consequence my Husband and i had a severe case of food poisoning as this is the only place we had anything to eat and drink the contaminated food came from this Hotel, after spending 2 days in our room unable to eat or drink we were then asked to attend the local Hospital by the Hotel manager and the Jet 2 rep for proof however unfortunately after 24 - 48 hrs the bug would have left our system and we had no intention of wasting any more of our Holiday, also after speaking to other guests they also had similar experience, after a few days the manager of the Hotel upgraded our room as compensation which we excepted but as you can imagine this would never make up what we both had been through. would not recommend staying here not just because of the problem with the food poisoning other issues not much atmosphere or night life .This hotel could be so much better, great location, right next to the beach, just needs someone to see whats missing and give this hotel a personality.
