Hotels near Moonstone Beach Boardwalk, San Luis Obispo County

I'm very picky and this low budget motel room was so nice and fresh and clean. My pup and I slept through the night on the fresh, clean, COMFY bed. Air cond. Worked perfectly!!! Staff always available. In walking distance if downtown San Luis obispo. Just hoping they will be able to add a fenced in grass area for dogs some day.

The hotel location is very good, just here is moonstone beach, you can see the beach after walking, there are several viewpoints within a range of about 500 meters by car. There are also wooden walkways to go. The courtyard room is useless. The small courtyard behind is not close to the sea, facing the high speed, it is better to have an ordinary room, the price is only half. Nice modern newer hotel in Atascadero, convenient for visiting Paso Robles, Morro Bay, SLO and Avila Beach (as long as you have a car). Minutes from the 101. PROS: Plenty of free parking, well lit. Modern, clean, newer hotel with up-to-date decor. Friendly front-desk person. Pool, gym, business center and breakfast included. Nice spacious breakfast area. Wall Street Journal available in lobby. Quiet stay until our last night when we had to call the front desk twice when a rabble of people were being very loud on our floor after 'Quiet Hours'. Vending machines and small shop with essentials available downstairs. CONS: I was not impressed that they don't offer housekeeping/a room refresh unless you're staying more than 5 days, although there was the option to ask for new towels at the front desk. When you're paying around the $200/night mark, you expect to come back at the end of a busy day to have at least your bed made and the room refreshed. I was told that 'People like the fact nobody enters the room while they're gone'. While this is one advantage, this is basically post-Covid corporate greed speak for 'It's a good excuse to not spend money and hire people to clean and make back some money we lost'. If I don't get my room cleaned, I might as well rent a room in someone's house through an on-line app. Breakfast food was your typical hotel chain buffet with sugary yogurts, cheap breads/bagels, rubbery eggs, brown spotted bananas, etc. When are hotels going to start offering more quality food? At least it's something to put in your belly before you go out for the day and you don't have to traipse the streets looking for breakfast. All-day coffee and tea in the lobby would be a nice touch like some other chains offer. I found the bathroom dimly lit, despite a light around the mirror. The suites are large: a living room area and a separate bedroom. Ours had two TVs, a microwave, a small refrigerator and a coffee maker. But the real selling point is there is a wonderful free breakfast daily from 6:30 to 9:30am. The cafe and outside tables allow for plenty of room to enjoy the wide variety of breakfast items, including egg dishes prepared to order. The cafe staff are uniformly friendly. Also from 5:30 to 7:30pm there if Happy Hour in the bar. Beer and wine are free. Sit in the bar or sit out by the pool. If you want a quick hot dog or burger, a barbecue is available and the prices for that food are nominal. The hotel is right off the 101 on Monterey St, which goes right down to the old downtown section. I can't say enough good things about this operation and it is the only place we stay when we visit San Luis Obispo. I have to assume that the management of this hotel knows what they are doing and seems to have employees who are happy and service oriented.

The hotel is very close to the sea, but it is still a bit far to go to Morro. Need to drive. But it is also a ten minute drive. Morro Bay is very foggy in the morning and the beach is beautiful. Super good, suitable for a family, especially a family with children, vacation on the beach: There are playgrounds for children to play with more facilities, such as table tennis, badminton, slides, etc. The swimming pool is also good, that is, there have always been two wild ducks coming to swim. By the swimming pool, there is also a bath with surf. The front desk was also very welcoming, providing hot water and coffee, and cookies in the afternoon. The restaurant is also relatively large, and the waffles will help you bake them. There are many drinks, in addition to coffee and fruit juice, it also provides a variety of brewed tea bags. Since it is a suite, it is basically 2 rooms. The room we stayed in had 3 beds, 2 bathrooms, and a balcony with partial sea views. There is a lot of space and there is no problem with the family.

Although they were kind at the front desk, we had a lackluster experience at this hotel. When entering our hotel hallway, there was a strong smell… it almost smelled like a skunk. The room just didn’t feel clean—although they had hip images on the wall the property and bathroom felt dated and it was a depressing view outside our window to the parking lot. My expectations were high given the room rate! When I had originally booked this hotel we were paying $550 a night (via the hotel’s website for a one night Saturday night stay). Closer to the date I checked again and managed to get our rate at $370 a night (I cancelled our original reservation). This was still far too much given the lovely property we stayed near Yosemite and in Santa Monica that were just a bit more than this one. I’m just relieved it was a short overnight stay here.

Perfect beach escape. Ocean front room with balcony. Firepits and sitting areas available everywhere to watch sunset. Easy stair access to the beach. Pier less than mile walk on beach. Multiple restaurants within walking distance. Would definitely book again
