Had a great stay here,staff very friendly and welcoming,made a fuss over our dog,room was beautiful,looks like it had recently been done up,nice bar with good selection of draught and various gins etc,food was also amazing,had the chicken madras, will definitely return in the future, sanqhuar is a lovely little town

Really nice hotel in the lovely Sanquar. Great base for exploring the local area. Nice restaurant with amazing food, Brian the lovely waiter couldn't do enough to help. Clean tidy rooms, lovely views of the tollhouse museum and surrounding countryside

The Nithsdale Hotel is situated in the centre of Sanqhuar, there is a little car park immediately opposite. We stopped here for lunch on our way to Dumfries. The locals were very friendly, as was the lady behind the bar. We had sandwiches with salad, coleslaw and crisps, and a cold drink. Everything was delicious and particularly the bread which was super-fresh and soft. The hotel has been done up over a period of time and the restaurant (which we sat in) was lovely, and the toilets were spotless. Would definitely call in again if we were passing.

First class stay at this extremely clean Hotel. With friendly and lovely staff throughout our stay. The food was excellent. Continental or full breakfast, with the lunch and evening food beautiful. Jade was attentive and charming and a credit to the hotel.

Great place to stay. We were in room 3 and the bed is huge, very comfortable, fluffy pillow, and spacious, The bathroom is lovely with two sinks, a fabulous shower, really clean, and a separate bath. Staff are super friendly, professional, and very happy. Would have given it more stars but the restaurant is closed on Sundays so didn’t get to sample the food. Would definitely stay here again.

The room was very spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable and the spa bath an added bonus. Although on the front of the hotel near the main road and also over the bar area this was still a quiet room. The only thing lacking was an offer of help with my luggage on arrival also the back entrance from the car park was difficult to navigate during heavy rain due to overflowing drains and gutters.

We stayed for 2 nights at the end of June Maura and Michael and the team were very welcoming the hotel has a long history, Clean and well kept accommodation and excellent food, very good breakfast where Daniel was the star of the show, along with the rest of the staff, Will definitely be going back also a good base for sightseeing.

This is the best hotel we’ve ever stopped in, here or abroad! Many thanks to all the staff for making it memorable. The room was perfect and everything had been thought of, so comfortable and top notch bed and bedding, didn’t want to get out! And what a bathroom, so jealous I don’t have shower like that at home 🚿 We had an absolutely fabulous dinner, the best we’ve had in all the time we’ve been in Scotland. The prices for food and drink were very reasonable. We enjoyed talking to the locals in the bar, they were lively characters 😂. We had cooked breakfast the next day which was also delicious. Everywhere was perfectly clean and the staff were fabulous, worked their socks off! We’ve already decided we’ll be back.

We came for a meal here, whilst trying to find a decent restaurant to dine with friends, after the place we booked unexpectedly closed. The reviews for here seemed great at face value. The hotel is really scruffy looking on the outside, on entering it was modestly decorated and the waitress was friendly. The dining area was reminiscent of an American dinner, but that's where the similarities end. There was no Gluten Free items available on the menu, so I had to try and guess which would be suitable. The food wasn't great, the Beef Balmoral was so tough, you could have soled shoes with it. It was returned to the kitchen. The replacement one wasn't much better. It was tasty but a tad too tough. The burger appeared to be cheap burgers and not a lot of filling. The chips were ok The whole meal took less than an hour, far too quick to enjoy and relax. The moment we said no to dessert they brought the bill!! We definitely won't be back.
