This 102 yr old home, now B&B, was the perfect experience. From meeting us at the car and carrying our bags in, to all the amenities, to the great menu choices for breakfast, the friendly tips on places to go, where to eat diner, it was wonderful. The rooms were beautiful wood paneled luxury. Tastefully decorated and furnished. Within 10 minute walk to downtown. Quiet. Plenty of parking. Literally perched over the ocean. No A/C wasn’t a problem…the ever present ocean breeze was all that was needed . The sound of waves gently breaking below our room led to blissful sleep. Highly recommend. Grab the largest room if available…includes a cozy nook for relaxing.

DDLM2019AMWhat a gem. This place is clean, cool, restful, a tropical oasis. And a great base to explore all that the east side of the big island has to offer… which is a lot. Easy 5 min walk into town with all its restaurants, coffee shops, museums etc. Yet removed from the hubbub. Spacious, cool (great crossbreeze, despite the lack of AC), even had a TV that got the Olympics which we were psyched about. Friendly and knowledgable staff who gave us great tips. Will stay at Dolphin Bay again for sure!
RRUIThe hotel is so beautiful, there is a large internal area, you need to drive from the iron gate for ten minutes, along the beautiful road, there are small wild boars on the road, next to the waterfall, there is a waterfall behind the hotel room, only for internal residents , You can swim and boat in the pond under the waterfall, and you can also participate in their rich activities such as climbing from the waterfall or visiting their farm. Breakfast is delicious. We did not have the opportunity to have dinner. It is said that it is their chef’s no-menu dinner. They use fresh ingredients from their own farm, which is a little regrettable. I highly recommend it. I will stay a few more days next time.
AAnonymous UserThe hotel is in a great location, next to the Japanese Garden, and the Coconut Island with sea views is right in front of you. Parking is free. The hotel's western restaurant, the steak and lobster are super delicious, and the price-performance ratio is also very high. Great 👍Car rental and return point, I didn't expect it to be right across from the boarding gate of Hilo Airport, super convenient 🤩
GGuest UserHilton brand used to be my hotel of choice. After some very disappointing stays toward the end of Covid I decided I was switching to anything but Hilton. I should have stuck with my commitment. As the previous poster said our room ($350) was very small. The corridors were old and dingy. When I walked into the room I went to look out the window and there was a view of a rooftop, a large dumpster of trash and a delapidated building with graffiti. In fact there are several abandoned buildings surrounding the property so the area isn’t great. They still don’t have daily housekeeping. I have been in Hawaii for 10-days now and my other hotels all had daily cleaning and it was excellent. There is no excuse for Hilton to not being this service back. That is a key reason people like to stay at hotels vs VRBOs. Hilton is putting the savings in their own pocket as their rates haven’t been adjust to reflect the significant reduction in service. Luckily we are only staying one night. The checkin was nice and the agent was friendly. The grounds (toward the water) were nice. I also agree with the other poster as I question why a resort fee at this property. If you get an ocean view room and don’t mind the lack of maid service then you should be ok. Definitely don’t stay in the odd numbered rooms in the ancillary building or you will view the ghetto.
Hilo to me is an agreeably funky place and this accommodation is perfectly in line with that impression. It is set a bit away from the city's downtown, such as it is, in a residential area. The property itself must have once been a residence itself, and is divided into two parts, the original lodge and an annex across the street. We stayed our one night in the annex in a double room, which was equipped with its own bathroom, a microwave and lots of storage space, but no television--for that you had to access a common area, which also had a small kitchen. Definitely the place must have once been a house. The front desk is not open all hours and you have to time your arrival to accommodate this, but the staff member we met was extremely friendly and helpful. Arnott's also runs tours to various parts of the island that leave from the premises, one of which (up Mauna Kea to the observatories) we'd accessed several years prior. All in all Arnott's would probably not be your cup of tea if your idea of a Big Island vacation is the glamorous resorts on the Kona side, but for us the laid-back, peaceful atmosphere was perfect.
