We were lucky enough to be gifted a voucher for an afternoon tea in Forss House which we were looking forward to using after previously experiencing the quality of service they pride themselves on. Unfortunately my visit was no where near up to the standard I was hoping for. Upon booking over email I specified that 1 of the party were Gluten Free to which I received an email to say that providing for Gluten Free was not a problem. After a large plate of delicious goodies was set down in front of us in the dining room I checked with the waitress to say that I had placed an order for 1 gluten free afternoon tea. After a bit of too-ing and fro-ing, and a rather sparse plate being set down in front of me it appeared that my dietary requirement was never passed onto the kitchen, who under such last minute notice, did well to provide anything for me at all. After this poor start and no real apology from staff we were then given a pot of hot water to refill our empty teapot instead of the ‘fresh pot’ that we had asked the waiter for, resulting in such weak and watered down tea that we did not bother drinking it. My husband really enjoyed his afternoon tea and we have enjoyed meals here before that are up to the standard that Forss House pride themselves on. However after our experience this afternoon I will not be returning quickly. A word of warning to anyone with dietary requirements. Check, double check and triple check so you are not disappointed like I was this afternoon.

Stayed here for one night, room was spacious well decorated and clean. The hotel hosts were really helpful, the menu for dinner is a fixed 3 course fixed price with up to 4 options per starter, main, desert. If you have a smaller appetite the 3 courses are too much as the portions are a good size. Quality of food is good the service is excellent and the staff are friendly and helpful

Our ferry back to Orkney was cancelled due to wind so we needed somewhere to stay for an extra night. Having driven past this hotel many times I always imagined it was expensive but when I looked online we were pleasantly surprised to see the rate for that night so we booked room only. We had a lovely room behind the bar and the highlight was the beautiful metal bath in the en-suite which was down a few steps. We didn't have dinner there but we enjoyed a few beers and gins in the bar and ended up bumping to some fellow Orcadians who were also staying there as a result of the cancelled boat. We plan to look out for one of the dinner, B&B offers that they sometimes offer during the quieter months. Although we didn't have time there are walks through the woods. The hotel has a lovely 'olde-worlde' feel to it and I look forward to getting back.

Idyllic hotel nestled within a small valley close to sea. Service, food and the general establishment was excellent. We booked the cottage for the family which was a great since it gave the kids some independence and me and the wife some peace and quiet. Helpful, friendly relaxed staff were always on call when needed. Good food and reasonable wine list. If in the area again will come back. Thanks

Took my daughter for afternoon tea my daughter is coealic I emailed and phoned to check if could cater for her which they said they could. When we arrived they said there had been a mistake. My daughter was given a sandwich pictured below and 1 cake was gf which was on plate with all other gluten items and probably handled along with the gluten items which has huge cross contamination issues. We left after 25 mins as the whole experience had been ruined for my daughter and was left to feel awkward. I would not recommend this pls e for people with allergies. I was using a voucher which was wasted and glad I wasn’t paying as is refuse Tonto’s for this sub standard service.

The room was lovely; clean, nicely decorated, and a good size. The curtains were effective in blacking out the light. The bathroom was huge, with a very large circular copper bath. Loved it. The shower was very good also. Breakfast was good quality and a la carte; no buffet. Dinner was of high quality ingredients and cooking. The bar was well-stocked and decorated traditionally, with an extensive whiskey collection. The grounds were gorgeous with a beautiful waterfall and fishing stream at the bottom of the gardens. The service was exemplary. Friendly, attentive and efficient. The only negative was being woken at 6 am on the day of our departure by very loud classical piano music being played in the restaurant below our bedroom. We reported it on our departure and the staff apologised, stating that it had been turned on remotely and by accident by the morning shift team, who were unaware that it was playing at all let alone at a volume so loud that it stopped my lie-in. I thought it was another guest’s alarm going off repeatedly, so did not go downstairs to investigate. Once alerted to the din by a colleague arriving later that morning, the music was turned off.

This is a place that looks slightly tatty but at the same time is comfortable and full of interesting design features. Decor is aimed at the huntin' shootin' fishin' set but is charming in its old fashioned chic. We stayed in the modern outside properties which were perfect for allowing the dogs a midnight pee. The dogs could go in the bar and the conservatory for food. The menu was close to fine dining, delicious and varied. I loved the venison. Outside, the hotel is set in spacious wooded grounds with paths going down to a river and to the sea. There are sheep in some fields, so be careful with dogs.

A quaint hotel which plays up to the Scottish fishing lodge stereotype, this was a nice place to spend a night. The room had traditional decoration and was spacious, as was the bathroom. Very clean, and we had a good nights sleep too. Staff were lovely and the service felt personalised and friendly. The restaurant however has a staid feeling to it (with bizarre music choice, played too loudly) and although the cuisine was good, it is very overpriced compared to similar establishments. Two 3-course meals and a bottle of wine plus 12.5% discretionary tip easily gets you to £200.

Prachtig gelegen, sfeervol huis. Mooie kamer, sfeervol ingericht. Absoluut een aanrader als je in de buurt bent. Heel veel soorten whiskey in huis en genoeg kennis hiervan. Het eten is niet heel goedkoop, maar goed verzorgd. Een waterval ligt naast het huis.
