As I had only booked for the Belgian Easter holidays in September this year, not a single hotel with a view of the Rhine and parking was still available. So we decided to arrive on Easter Monday in the only available hotel that met our criteria. Parking, view of the Rhine, elevator, panoramic restaurant and gourmet breakfast buffet. We decided on a junior suite at 208 per night including breakfast. Two weeks before our arrival we were informed that there was no restaurant left and that we should go somewhere else to eat. We were given recommendations, but unfortunately on two days we only had the option of eating in an overpriced Spanish or Italian restaurant. At the weekend there was a wedding with an impressive 5-course menu, it's a shame that hotel guests are not allowed to be spoiled with the cuisine. Perhaps that was a sign that we should cancel for free, but we didn't. When we arrived we had a cold shower. The hotel was almost empty, so there was no buffet. We had to tick in advance what we wanted to save money. However, it is not clear how big a portion of ham, cheese, etc. is. Furthermore, you don't necessarily know the night before how hungry you will be or when you will wake up. The next few days there was a buffet which wasn't exactly amazing and was rather boring: cheese, sausage and ham, eggs and bacon, fruit but the same selection every day, only at the weekend did we get mettwurst and croissants. So no sweets for the first four days. We are more used to much more modest German hotels. The room is huge and luxurious; more clothing storage space than at home, great bathroom with bath and shower, couch, armchair, balcony and wonderful view of the Rhine. Pillows too soft as usual but we brought our own anyway. The room is relatively quiet although you can hear the ships and the train on the other side of the Rhine. With an outside temperature of 6 degrees it was already quite warm in the room at night, so in summer air conditioning would actually be necessary and a given for the elevated class and price of the hotel. Attention: please bring your own shampoo and shower gel: there is only one small bottle for the room (so you have to share it, although it is barely enough for one person) and it is not refilled even though it was thrown into the trash can on the first day. On the other hand, you get a free bottle of water every day. Conclusion: the hotel is very luxuriously furnished and impressive in the common areas, the suites are also very tastefully furnished. In general, however, it must be said that the price-performance ratio is rather disappointing.
