Most hotels in Pelling are bland newer hotels which cater to package bus tours - this is a great choice for individual travellers, couples and families who are searching for a „home-away-from-home“: This is an older, a bit faded hotel (which is part of its charm) with various room categories - I recommend taking the luxury rooms because on good days, you will have great mountain views to Kangchendzönga. The family lives in the same hotel, and there are loads of comfortable places to linger on rainy days or in the evenings. Staff is really friendly, and at the reception, they can speak good English and give tips what to do. There is a laundry service (for which you will have to pay extra) - if you give the reception the laundry in the evening, it will be ready the next day. The food is also great - the menu is so extensive as these are the food types they can prepare, and there is something for everyone - Western International, Indian, Chinese and Local, all of them either vegetarian or non-vegetarian. We went for the local food, and it was delicious, high-fibre, low-fat and with fresh vegetables. For breakfast, they will prepare something different every day so you get to know the different types of Sikkimese breakfasts. For dinner, I recommend Sikkim rice, as this is basically a Thali giving you various types of local vegetable dishes. I also recommend ordering the fruit platter in addition - you can specify what fruit you want. Note that the kitchen is really clean and - as food is prepared freshly and cooking simply takes some time - you will have to order breakfast the evening before and any other food 2 hours in advance. I made a reservation by writing an email to the hotel which worked perfectly. Note that the furniture of the rooms is indeed a bit faded (if you want something new, you will need to go to a newer and more expensive hotel), but the rooms are perfectly clean. Also, there is no WiFi which is normal in this area.

Great Hotel. Caring staff. Great locaion. Very reasonable price. The staff is warm and caring especially the owner, Sumitri. You do have to be a bit proactive but they are willing to help. The first hotel in Pelling so it does show age but it has a nice warm atmosphere with common areas throughout. A magnet for mature western tourists. A variety of prices with the better having spectacular views of "The Mountain", patios, and larger. Upper Pelling by taxi stand (ground zero).

We stayed at Hotel Garuda during our family trip in May 23. The location of the hotel is awesome with all key utilities just a few steps away. The hotel is very homely, neat and quiet. The top floor mountain view rooms are by far the best bet and offers magnificent and breath taking view of Mt. Kanchanjunga from the balcony of your room. You'll also get advantage of getting private terrace from where you can enjoy the changing colour and appearance of the mountains. The beds are clean and spacious. The staff are cooperative and courteious. Food is good and is available by placing order in advance as it takes time to prepare hot food to serve. Be specially particular to order the food on time and ask the tentitive time of readiness of food. The hotel is more than a hotel it gives absolutely homely feeling with inclusion of a mini library, prayer hall dining hall and colourful vollections. The lady who manages all the affairs of the hotel is utmost dutiful and courteious. At the end I must say that I'll recommend this hotel to tourists who wish to spend some good and memorable time at the tranquility of Pelling.

rooms are old/ dirty/ smelly/ damp. they did charged around rs. 1000 for a small room with no views at all. i fail to understand why there are so many positive reviews . u will surely spoil ur mood and holiday if u check in there. the furniture are old and rusty and the lines are soiled. very old structure and no renovation has been done. provided two worn out cheap plastic chair for sitting. they also do not provide food in rooms, u have to go and eat in the dining room within specific time. i immediately checked in some other hotel despite the fact that i had already paid for this disgusting hotel
