Very clean hotel with great facilities. The hotel restaurant was excellent. The staff were all very friendly too.

Gibside staff are very nice. But hotel is very dated. Rooms and in particular bathrooms are very dated. Breakfast doesn't have a lot of options other than full english (or variants or boxed cereal). Seems to focus more on the Venue room which is at front of hotel - entrance to hotel is at back. Need a taxi to get to anywhere. Also really spiked their prices for Great North Run weekend - so we were expecting a really decent hotel - and it isn't. So score is also based on price..if you are paying £80 a night for a room, then it would have been fairly priced.

Reception was nice, but very badly situated.
Very limited free parking spaces. Rooms are very dated. Room was only accessible via stairs.
Tea & coffee making facilities - spoons were dirty. Lack of toilet roll in room. Stairwell hand rail was sticky and dirty.
Breakfast was lovely. But again cutlery was dirty, tea stains on teaspoon. Used packets of sugar left on the table.
Bar staff were good. Not enough staff in breakfast restaurant.

The hotel is lovely, with good size rooms and beds, in a quiet location in a very nice village. The bathroom was newly refurbished with excellent water pressure and the heating was working very well. We found the staff very helpful and kind. I cannot comment on the breakfast because we didn't have any breakfast. Excellent value for money.

Visited the bar area upstairs for food which was delicious and good value for money. The staff were friendly and happy to answer any questions we had. The only negative is the access arrangements for wheelchair users. You can't access this area from the front of the hotel as, although there is a ramp, to actually get in you'd have to walk up a few steps. You can use a service access lift via the Hotels Reception but we were told that a member of the hotel team have to go into the lift also.
