The Ship Inn

A couple of delightful youngsters on the bar could not have been more polite, attentive and friendly to my wife and I, in our 60s, down from Scotland. Excellent prawns in garlic oil for starters, with crusty toasted bread to mop up the juices, then generous portions of battered haddock and chips. In fact so huge, that we really didn’t need the starters. With a couple of drinks each it came to £30 a head, which I thought good value. Have booked for another night when our son will be joining us.

Stayed here two nights so we could go to the races. Overall the rooms were really nice, modern decoration and really lovely bathroom. Didn’t eat or drink here, but the pub was busy both nights which suggests it must be at least half decent! Location is great to get to the races (£7 in an Uber), and decent for getting into York (£11 in an Uber). My friend and I both drove so the reduced cost of being out of the city centre and the free parking made this hotel a no brainer for two nights. The only minor criticism is around staff availability and the replenishment of things in the room. For a 2 night stay we had the tiniest scrap of toilet roll provided and it was impossible to find staff before noon. I managed to find a store cupboard while looking for staff and took the one remaining toilet roll out of there. Tea and coffee also wasn’t replenished. Would definitely stay here again for a trip to the races, but I do hope that room essentials needing replenishment is taken on board. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Always pop into this place for a pint or two ( when it’s open which can be hit and miss) so was in the area for a walk and thought we’d try it for a sunny Sunday pint. It was open and the smell of Sunday dinner was too strong to resist. I ordered the lamb dinner and my partner the turkey, I have to admit.. it was beautiful! Will be returning! They were extremely busy and did miss our drinks ( did take them off the bill when we said they didn’t arrive) but I’m not mad as they were rushing around with the rush of customers. Great food, great pub, glad to see it flourishing again

Stayed 16-17th April really nice pleasant staff the food was amazing rooms lovely and clean admittedly could do with a touch up in parts but after being under water after the flood that's only natural had a brilliant stay would definitely go back 👏👏

Booked and paid stop 16th December owning my partner going hospital l cancelled room weeks before flooding ask refund no joy phoned again spoke staff no refund altogether l contact and spoke staff still no refund terrable not replying or refund me l will call pub next year in person for refund once pub reopen stay this pub 2 times before never again or would recommend

We went couple of times was really nice food was lovely we went in August and wasn’t told no cooked breakfast so was a bit disapointed but would be in December we cancelled our dec booking due to my ill healt in beginning now kept ringing for our refund still havnt got it £120 is a lot to lose And now found out it’s closed we cancelled well before the floods so can’t blame them

Accomodation was very dirty,stained carpets grease stains and drip marks of what I think was coffee all on the walls, the room was freezing cold and the mattress unhealthy. The furniture battered and the bath moldy. Very disappointed and even more so in the staffs attitude at sorting out the room. Requested a refund as we couldn't stay there and was snubbed. Looks great in the pubs own photos and the app used to book it but don't be fooled !!

We booked a table for 9 people fir a Sunday carvery. The food portions and quality was excellent. I personally asked if I could try two meats. The quality and portion size was exceptional. The steak pies were also superb. Staff were really friendly and very accommodating.

Really disappointed with the Ship Inn for a Funeral the young person behind the bar looked bewildered when we arrived no food was evident and no particular area had been reserved for the funeral party
