Hotel Berner

Stayed here August 2024 - family of four, our first summer alpine family holiday. Hotel is delightful. All the staff are very helpful, speak excellent English - special mention to Olivia at breakfast. Food is superb and they were very helpful if there was nothing on the daily menu that appealed. lots to do in and around Zee and Karin on reception can help and advice. I've been to Zell in winter and hotel is very close to the city express lift, so would recommend it for ski trips as well. Summer visitors should be aware that there is no air con in rooms - it is a small, family run, old building hotel, so this should not come as a surprise. As in anything, there is always room for improvement - the pillows are rather thin and anything but firm, but that's about the extent of the shortcomings, so new pillows please.

I visited this lovely hotel in August 2024 with family and can honestly say it is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. All of the staff were so friendly and couldn’t do enough for you, including the manager Chris who made the effort to come and greet the guests each day in the hotel. The food is absolutely amazing and the location of the hotel is very close to the square which is approximately just under a 10 minute walk. Hotel Berner have the most personalised approach to ensure all guests thoroughly enjoy their stay and is certainly a hotel I would recommend to others.

I visited Hotel Berner, Zell am See in the week of 3 August. Upon arrival we were given welcome drinks, a wonderful experience and a warm welcome. Our bags arrived in our room and we were given a card to use for all public transport. The room was upgraded to a suite which was absolutely lovely with views of the lake. The staff were the best staff I have ever had the pleasure to experience in all my years of travel. The customer service was first class from the reception to the waiting staff. The food consisted of a huge choice of breakfast hot and cold and a 6 course, silver service evening meal which was presented as if you were in a Michelin star restaurant. Each and every course over the 7 days was delicious. There was also cakes available at 3pm, sauna was heated upon request. Every single member of staff was courteous, kind and professional. We met the owner who introduced himself to every guest and was courteous and welcoming. This is the first time in all my years of travel that I have met the owner of a hotel. He most definitely is passionate about his business and wanted to make his guests feel at home with first class service geared to make the guest feel welcome. The hotel is situated about a 10 minute walk from the central buzz near the lake which was perfect because it is quiet and relaxing. Austria is wonderful, travel was easy using the card the hotel provided; a beautiful and clean country. There is a lot of opportunity to walk - I would recommend the cable cars high into the mountains in Kitzsteinhorn, a boat ride on the lake and the waterfalls at Krimml. If you would like to stay a traditional hotel, enjoy comfortable rooms, with first class service and eat delicious food from arrival to departure, I would highly recommend Hotel Berner.

We have been visiting Austria for 35 years and the Berner is one of the best Austrian hotels we have stayed in. We were immediately made to feel welcome with a drink while our luggage was transported to our room. All staff were helpful and friendly and bent over backwards to make sure all was very good. We were staying for 2 weeks and for half board. The five course evening meal was exceptional as was the choice of food for breakfast. A variety of cakes were offered in the afternoons. During the day services included an outdoor swimming pool including a jacuzzi and indoor wellness area. The hotel is ideally situated in a quiet location just a few minutes walk from the main square and then on to the lake side. Zell am See is a pretty town with a beautiful lake and surrounded by mountains, with easy access via lifts to local mountain tops. It is situated on a main train line to Salzburg and other cities.

Spent a week at this wonderful family run hotel during June which is ideally located and has superb facilities including heated outdoor pool with jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room. The hotel is kept spotlessly clean and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. They are friendly and helpful and genuinely want you to enjoy yourselves. From the moment we arrived, being welcomed with a complimentary drink and our luggage taken to our room, until the moment we left we couldn’t fault this hotel. Our room overlooked the village and lake; the views were beautiful. The breakfast and evening meals were both well presented and delicious. There is also a selection of homemade cakes served in the afternoon. We found the Summer Card to be very useful giving lots of free local travel and free admission to places. As for the owner, Chris, well what a lovely sincere gentleman who always found time to talk to his guests. We highly recommend this hotel and can’t wait to return again soon.

I can't rate this hotel high enough, staff are lovely very accommodating Nothing too much trouble. Amazing food five star, Comfy beds everything spotless. Great location. The summer card was an added bonus saved us loads of money. Lovely pool area robes and slippers a special touch. Did not want to leave will definitely return.

Our first trip to Austria - the hotel was very authentic and traditionally Austrian, super welcome with a cold glass of beer and Prosecco. Our cases were taken to the room for us - small fridge in the room and ample tea facilities- we had a balcony with view of the lake - 100% worth it to take in the atmosphere of the resort. You chose your evening meal at breakfast time - 6 courses, soup, starter, salad buffet, main, desert and then cheese and biscuits- fabulous high end food, never failed. Pool area so tranquil and what a view. Very helpful staff, we had fun, drink prices so much cheaper than in town. Plenty of maps and tourist information available at the hotel. Would stay again.

Super hotel situated just a 5 minute walk from the town centre. The rooms are spotlessly clean, with tea making facilities and very comfortable beds. The hotel is traditionally decorated which may put some people off but don't let that deter you ! We were greeted on arrival ( a small Inghams group) and whilst our cases were taken to our rooms we were offered a welcome drink in the reception area. The food is fantastic, very tasty and well presented (there is a choice for evening meal which you select at breakfast). The staff at this family run hotel are exceptional, very friendly and helpful. The weather while we were there was very hot and we made use of the outdoor pool in the afternoons, towels, robes and slippers provided. The pool was never overly busy and there was always a sunbed free. As this is a small hotel the guests get to know each other and it creates a very nice atmosphere. There is also a lovely selection of homemade cake served in the afternoon ! The summer card is also very useful giving free access to buses, trains and cable cars, a great saving.

I have just returned from a fabulous week at the Hotel Berner. The hotel was one of the best I have stayed in, certainly in Austria. It was so relaxing and the service from all the staff was fantastic. The room was great with a lovely lake view, spacious and very clean, all bathroom products and tea tray replenished daily. The restaurant service and food quality was very good. The pool area was so inviting as we were lucky with the weather. Christophe, the owner, should be very proud and was very helpful. I hope to return very soon.
