YHA Grasmere Butharlyp Howe
4.3/542 Reviews
YHA Grasmere is a lovely place to stay in the lakes. Fantastic location, just a few minutes walk from town, but it could be in the middle of no-where. Tranquil and beautiful. The staff are all incredibly friendly, helpful and caring. Breakfast is very good and an excellent evening meal. I booked a private room, which was large and the bed was comfortable. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. Will definitely be back
Lake View Country House

Great hotel with a decent location in the middle of the Lake District. You can walk/ cycle to Ambleside which is 5 miles away. Low fells are easy to hike for great views of the area around. The hotel is more like a private house with rooms. We got a small suite with bedroom, bathroom and living room. We could just about see the lake from the living room. The bathroom only has a bath and no shower head which was a difficulty for washing hair. Except for that it was very well organised. Breakfast was at a nearby pub - The Good Sport. It was a limited selection on the menu: full English, breakfast rolls, toast or porridge. You also got a 10% for dinner in the pub too.
Moss Grove Organic

We stayed in room 11 and were really pleased with the room. It was spacious with a comfortable bed. The place was spotless throughout and had a laid back feel, which we liked. The bathroom was luxurious with a shower and a separate spa bath. Again spotless however the glass door to the bathroom wasn’t ideal, leaving us with no privacy. The location is stunning and central to the village and handy for the shops and cafes etc and we could come and go as we pleased. On arrival we were greeted by whom I can only assume is the manager, slightly eccentric but a nice man. Check in was a bit rushed but we were fine with that. The only negatives really was that it would have been nice to have an iron in the room. I did ask for one but it never arrived. I realise it’s not a hotel but not everyone who stays are hikers. The spiral stairs to the top floor, where we were are way too steep. We are in our 50s and we struggled. There were elderly people in rooms next to us so I don’t know how they managed. They could do with a lift if it were possible. Parking isn’t great. Breakfast was a bit awkward, we are both vegan and we went elsewhere the first morning but we were told that if we got to the kitchen at 9.40 the next morning , there would be vegan sausages waiting for us. We got there on time only to discover we had been forgotten about. The manager did his best but we had to wait and it was a bit uncomfortable and ended up with 2 sausages and some beans. No vegan butter etc. A bit of extra thought would go a long way. We were booked to stay for 2 nights and asked if we could stay a third but unfortunately they couldn’t accommodate us and we booked in to the Wordsworth Hotel next door. What a mistake that was, not a patch on the Moss Grove. We would have crawled back on our knees if they could have taken us back! Regardless of everything, it was a lovely place, with a relaxed and friendly vibe, clean, spacious and we would love to go there again one day.
Rothay Garden by Harbour Hotels

The location of the hotel is average. Have their own garden, the room is quite large, dinner should be booked in advance, asking for a window. Service is too good, 15 minutes walk from Lake Grasmere.
The Daffodil Hotel & Spa

1. Location, the hotel is just by the lake, but it is a 30-minute drive from Windermere, and it is far from the Lake District. 2. Some rooms can accommodate an extra bed, 15 pounds a day, including breakfast. 3, the hotel is large and has a lot of parking spaces. 4. The meal is great, classic English. 5, the hotel toiletries are good, is the British Royal Development Supplies MB, the bathroom's heating rack is open in the summer, the towel will be done overnight. Great

Booked this two night break in November 2021. Did originally have the Christmas break booked but due to ill health had to cancel. When we booked we picked a particular room as we had been the year before and liked that room. When we checked in were given a different room, when questioned were told can not have that room somebody has been in it for the last two nights. No choice but to accept the room. The room itself was very nice on first entering. When entering the bathroom found black mould around the front of the bath, not what I would expect when paying so much for the two nights. In the bedroom a dent in the wall, looked like somebody punched it! Wallpaper all scuffed in one corner. Dusting not carried out on items around the room and looked like it had not been done for sometime. The following day did speak to the Manager about the room change, he checked booking and room choice was on booking. Offered dinner and a bottle of wine, which was very nice. On returning to room and using the loo this then broke down. Reported this and was told somebody would be up to inspect. Went out for the day on returning to room loo still not fixed, not very good to have water running for over five hours. Reported again was then fixed. Following morning at 6.30pm loo broke again my Husband had to go down two floors to use the hotel ones. Reported again. We stayed at this Hotel last year and everything was perfect. We were so disappointed this time with the changed to the room and the state of the room. The staff in the Restaurant and bar area are all very good and these are the people that made the stay enjoyable for us this time. Sad to say we will not be retuning. Some people may think I am being picky about some of the things in this review but we paid over £600 for this two night break and we expect thing to be better than this.
