Wuning travel guide and discussion

8️⃣ places you must see before heading out for National Day. If you've been to 3, you're a pro. 01 Yushu | Qinghai Heading northwest for National Day, Yushu is the kind of place that leaves you speechless at first sight. On the edge of the Hoh Xil uninhabited area, 📍 on the grasslands near Qingshuihe Town, Tibetan antelopes look like tiny moving dots in the distance. ⏰ 6:00 AM to 8:00 AM, before the fog clears, the shots are full of depth. Sanjiangyuan National Park isn't open to the public, but heading south along G214, you can feel that vastness near the Tongtian River Bridge. ⚠️ Altitude is over 4,500 meters. Don't wash your hair the night before, and having an oxygen tank is more important than taking photos. Suitable for experienced drivers, not for pushing through with elderly travelers. The grass is fully yellow in October, the wind is harsh, so don't worry about how your down jacket looks. Check official daily announcements for tickets and open areas; don't trust people soliciting on the roadside. 02 Nanping | Fujian The right way to experience Wuyi Mountain isn't climbing Tianyou Peak, but taking a bamboo raft down the Nine-Bend Stream. ⏰ The first raft is at 7:30 AM. The water is as flat as a mirror, and you can see fish swimming by the raft. 📍 Board at Xingcun Wharf. The whole trip takes about 1.5 hours. The "rock bone and floral fragrance" isn't mystical; it's the Danxia landform combined with tea tree roots digging into rock crevices. 🍜 After coming down the mountain, go to the resort area for a bowl of Zixi rice noodles with a smoked goose leg. It's half the price of what's inside the scenic area. ⚠️ The stairs on the back of Tianyou Peak are steep and narrow. During National Day, you could be stuck in line for 30 minutes, so skip it if you have bad knees. In October, Wuyi Mountain is T-shirt weather during the day and requires a light down jacket at night; the temperature difference is crazy. 03 Jiujiang | Jiangxi Lushan and Lushan West Sea have completely different vibes. Lushan is for slow walks. ⏰ Go to Ruqin Lake after 4:00 PM; the tour groups have left, and the lake is foggy, like someone spilled a bowl of milk. 📍 A 15-minute walk west from Guling Street. Lushan West Sea is for just chilling out. 🚄 It's about a 1-hour taxi ride from Jiujiang Station to West Sea. Stay a night on the lake island, and in the morning, you'll hear nothing but water when you open the window. 🍜 Wuning stick fish and Zhelin Lake fish head are incredibly fresh. ⚠️ Prices on Lushan are ridiculously high; a bottle of water is CNY 8, so bring your own. In October, temperatures on Lushan are below 10 °C in the morning and evening, so bring a jacket liner. West Sea is good for kids and the elderly; Lushan is for those who can handle a lot of walking. 04 Jiuquan | Gansu In the Dunhuang area, there are more people than sand during National Day. ⏰ Enter Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Lake either at 6:00 AM or after 5:30 PM; going at noon is like being on a griddle. 📍 Entering through the middle gate saves the most walking. Expect to wait at least an hour for a camel ride. Grab regular Mogao Caves tickets a month in advance. If you can't, buy emergency tickets; you only get to see 4 caves, but it's better than just taking photos at the entrance. ⚠️ No photos inside the caves, and don't even take out your flashlight. Yadan National Geopark and Yumenguan are on the same route; you can do both in one day by chartering a car. 🍜 Back in the city, have donkey meat yellow noodles and a cup of apricot skin tea. In October, the temperature difference between day and night in Dunhuang is 20 °C; T-shirts at noon and a winter coat at night is no exaggeration. 05 Beihai | Guangxi Whether Weizhou Island is worth visiting depends on whether you know how to avoid the crowds. ⏰ Before 8:00 AM at Colorful Beach, the volcanic rocks are full of puddles after low tide, and the reflections are better than the "Mirror of the Sky." 📍 Watch the sunset at Dishuidanping, but don't crowd into the middle; walk 100 meters to the left and there will be half as many people. Beihai Silver Beach is free, but it's packed like sardines during National Day. ⚠️ Don't touch the jet skis or ATVs at Silver Beach; the pricing is vague, and it's easy to get into arguments when returning them. 🍜 For shrimp cakes and sweet soup on Qiaogang Style Street, go after 3:00 PM. Try the Vietnamese rice rolls with drip coffee. You can still swim in Beihai in October, but it's the tail end of typhoon season, so check the weather before you leave. Buy Weizhou Island ferry tickets and entry fees through official channels; don't use scalpers. 06 Xi'an | Shaanxi I advise you not to be greedy in Xi'an; two spots a day is the max. ⏰ Get to the Terracotta Warriors as soon as it opens at 8:30 AM; after 10:00 AM, the tour group armies arrive. 📍 Take Metro Line 9 to Huaqing Palace and then transfer to a bus; don't take unlicensed taxis. Rent a bike on the City Wall. ⏰ Get on at Yongning Gate at 5:00 PM; a full loop takes 1.5 hours, just in time for the lights to come on. The History Museum is free but hard to book; if you can't get a spot, go to the Stele Forest—fewer people, more steles. The Qinling Mountains and Zhongnan Mountain are worth an extra day; 🚄 it's easy to get there from Xi'an South Station. 🍜 Pangzi Zenggao and Ma'erli Hu-la Soup at Sajinqiao are more authentic than the Muslim Quarter. ⚠️ During National Day, the main street of the Muslim Quarter is only good for people-watching; for food, head into Xiyangshi and Dapiyuan. 07 Weifang | Shandong Qingzhou Ancient City is the kind of place that's quiet but worth a full day of exploring. 📍 Walk north from Ouyuan Street to Wannian Bridge. The old men playing chess under the old locust tree look more like a postcard than any photo spot. ⏰ Before 10:00 AM, the light hits the alleys at an angle—perfect for portraits without editing. 🍜 Old locust tree pan-fried buns with tofu pudding are only sold until 10:30 AM. ⚠️ Don't touch the viral bowl-smashing wine or Turkish ice cream in the ancient city; they're the same everywhere and not worth it. There's a flower show in Qingzhou in October, but don't come just for that. The ancient city is great for a slow walk with parents, but not for strollers—the stone roads are bumpy. Admission is free, but some individual attractions charge separately; check official daily announcements. 08 Yancheng | Jiangsu Dafeng Milu Deer Park—going during National Day is just right to catch the deer herds gathering. ⏰ Take the electric cart into the core area before 9:00 AM; the deer will be grazing right by the cart, with water weeds hanging from their antlers. 📍 The wetland boardwalk north of the Deer Viewing Platform is less crowded, and you can hear the deer calling. ⚠️ Don't feed them your own food; the park has special feed. It's windy in Yancheng in October, so hold onto your hat. 🍜 Back in the city, have a bowl of Dongtai fish soup noodles; the soup is as white as milk. Suitable for families, not for those looking for thrills. The park is big, so rent a tandem bike to save energy. Check official daily announcements for ticket and electric cart prices; sometimes buying online is CNY 5 cheaper. If you've been to 3 of these 8 places, you're a pro. Don't be greedy when traveling for National Day; pick one and take your time. Which one do you want to visit most, or which ones have you already been to? Let me know in the comments.

Itchy feet after the start of autumn, but your wallet says no? I've grouped these four places by traveler type: those who want to see the sea, head into the mountains, explore villages, or lounge by the lake. Take your pick. I've already scouted these routes for you, so follow them and save your money. 🐬 Want to see the sea: Qinzhou Sanniang Bay has no admission fee. Just pay a CNY 10 parking fee to enter—the barrier to entry is impressively low. Dolphin watching costs CNY 138 per person. The boat ride lasts 1–2 hours, and you can watch the Chinese white dolphins from a distance. They aren't "on the clock," so don't expect to get too close. When you see that flash of pink leap out of the water and everyone on the boat cheers, the ticket is worth it 🐬 If you don't go out to sea, you won't miss out. The sunset and clamming at Xili Bay are free, and you can wander through the old street arcades and the Former Residence of Liu Yongfu at your leisure 🌇 A bowl of pork trotter rice noodles costs CNY 5–10, and you won't get tired of it even after two days. ⛰️ Want to head into the mountains: Ningguo A heads-up: the cedar forests are still green in October. The bald cypresses won't turn red until mid-to-late November, so don't make a wasted trip. However, the Ningguo section of the Southern Anhui Sichuan-Tibet Route is beautiful in autumn regardless, and it's photogenic even without the red leaves. Choose one of two water activities: a cruise for CNY 72 at Qinglong Bay, or a bamboo raft starting at CNY 124.5 at Xijin Yedu. Camping by the Chujiatan lakeside is free, and wandering through the Heli Creek Old Street costs nothing, which really keeps your overnight costs down 🏕️ 🏘️ Want to explore villages: Zhaoxing Dong Village Take the high-speed train to Congjiang Station and transfer to the village. The five drum towers in the village are named after the Confucian virtues of benevolence, righteousness, propriety, wisdom, and fidelity, and you can see them all on foot. The terraced field trails in Tang'an are free. If you hike up, the entire village is laid out beneath your feet. The admission ticket of CNY 78 plus the CNY 58 shuttle bus are your fixed costs. Once you're in the village, that's basically it. If you happen to catch a performance of the Dong Grand Choir, it's free to listen. Dong-style oil tea with sticky rice costs just a few yuan and is warm and filling 🍚 Rice paddy fishing, batik, and the bonfire party are bundled into a package for CNY 268. Buy it if you want that extra experience, but you can still have a great time without it. 🏞️ Want to lounge by the lake: Wuning The Wuning side of Lushan West Sea is the best value option: a bamboo raft ride costs CNY 50 for half an hour, and at night, you can take the West Sea Bay night cruise for CNY 79. Milky white fish head soup is the local specialty. It costs about CNY 45–60 per person, and the soup itself is warming just to look at. The wetland park is free. Pick a lakeside homestay, zone out during the day, and watch the lights at night—it's the most relaxing stop of the four. Note: The main scenic area on the Yongxiu side costs CNY 140 and requires a boat ride, so budget travelers should skip it. 💡 A quick reminder Check the weather before heading to the sea, bring a jacket for the mountains, and respect local customs in the villages. There's no specific order for these four places; choosing based on your interests is more reliable than strictly following a guide 🚌

Get out and relax this autumn. These 4 spots are uncrowded and affordable—spend a little, see big scenery 🧭 I'll cover just 3 things for each place: one spot, one food, and one free attraction. It's a quick guide—take a look and take your pick. 🧭 Qinzhou (Top pick, let's start here) One spot: Dolphin watching boat trips cost CNY 138 per person. If you're lucky, white dolphins will surface right by the boat. It's a 1–2 hour trip on the water—look, don't touch. One food: Pork trotter rice noodles in the Old Street cost just a few dollars a bowl. The broth is rich and the portions are generous 🍲 Plenty of free spots: Sanniang Bay has no admission fee, just a CNY 10 parking fee. Sunsets and clam digging at Xili Bay are free, and the Old Street and the Former Residence of Liu Yongfu are also open to the public. If you have an extra half-day, try a Nixing pottery DIY session and take your creation home. Bazhaigou is in the mountains—save it for when you have more time 🛶 🧭 Zhaoxing Dong Village One spot: Village admission is CNY 78, and the round-trip shuttle is CNY 58. Once inside, walk through all 5 Drum Towers. If you catch a performance of the Dong Grand Choir, it's a bonus. One food: Grab a bowl of oil tea with sticky rice. It's warm and comforting, and costs just a few dollars 🍲 One free spot: The Drum Tower complex is scattered throughout the village and free to explore. The trail to the Tang'an rice terraces is also free. There's a CNY 268 package deal for bonfires, batik, and catching fish in the fields. If that doesn't interest you, just skip it—the village itself is worth half a day. 🧭 Wuning One spot: Water activities here are affordable. Bamboo rafting is CNY 50 for half an hour, and the night cruise on Xihai Bay is CNY 79—the lights are worth the trip 🛶 One food: The milky white fish head soup by the lake costs about CNY 40–50 per person for two people. It's delicious. One free spot: The lakeside wetland park has no admission fee, and the lakeside guesthouses are reasonably priced too 🛏️ The main scenic area is on the Yongxiu side, where admission plus the boat ticket is nearly CNY 200—I'll skip that for this quick guide. 🧭 Ningguo One spot: There are two water activities to choose from in the Ningguo section: a cruise for CNY 72 or bamboo rafting starting at CNY 120. A reminder: The bald cypress trees don't turn red until mid-to-late November. In October, the forest is still green, so don't make the trip just for the red trees. One free spot: Camping by Chujiatan Lake is free, and Heliqi Old Street is free. I won't name specific places to eat—just head into the Old Street and find something hot. Tour the lake during the day, set up camp in the evening, and enjoy dinner by the lake with the sunset. The pace is just right. 📷 Wrapping up You don't need to visit all four places; just pick two or three to connect into a route. If your budget is tight, start with Qinzhou—it has the most free spots and costs the least. Remember to save Ningguo for mid-to-late November to see the red cypress trees. You can head to the other three in mid-to-late October to avoid the crowds.

Includes boat rides and island visits. Follow the boat schedule throughout the trip; pay attention to the last boat time and do not get stranded on the islands. Option 2 | Leisurely self-driving tour around the lake (free route) Zhelin Town loop road. Stop at roadside viewing platforms along the way to take photos. This does not enter the main scenic area and is suitable for those who don't want to take a boat and prefer to enjoy the lake view quietly. Pair this with eating fish head at a local farmhouse restaurant by the lake. Duration: 3–4 hours. 🍜 Local food & souvenirs ✅ Must-try food: Zhelin bighead carp (fish head stew), scrambled eggs with silverfish, stick fish, dried bamboo shoots, wild vegetables, fermented fish ✅ Souvenirs: Fermented fish, dried silverfish, dried bamboo shoots, Wuning sweet potato starch Note: Restaurant prices inside the scenic area are on the higher side; farmhouse restaurants in Zhelin Town offer better value. ⚠️ Travel tips [Trip.com guide highlights] 1. The core activity is the boat tour. Be sure to pay attention to the boat departure times and the last boat time; if you miss it, you will be stranded on the island. 2. It is windy on the lake, and the temperature on the boat feels lower. Bring a light jacket. Be careful when taking photos on the boat deck. 3. Best season: April–May, September–November. The temperature is comfortable, and the lake water color is beautiful. Summer has plenty of water but is crowded. Winter is prone to heavy fog, and boat services may be temporarily suspended. 4. The loop road has many curves. Drive carefully, pull over to the side to view the scenery, and do not block the lane. 5. There are many steps when climbing the islands, so wear comfortable sports shoes. Those with a fear of heights should be cautious about the glass skywalk. 6. Distinction: Lushan West Sea ≠ Lushan Mountain! The two places are far apart. Do not confuse them when planning your itinerary.

Overview Wuning is located in Jiujiang, Jiangxi, and encompasses a vast expanse of the Lushan West Sea. Thousands of emerald islands are scattered across the lake, earning it the nickname "a small city where you can see the sea." Compared to Qiandao Lake, it has fewer tourists, crystal-clear water, and gentle lake shores. The entire itinerary is relaxed, with little high-intensity hiking, focusing on lakeside walks and boat tours. It is perfect for middle-aged travelers looking to unwind, take in the lake views, breathe in the fresh air, and enjoy a quiet, slow-paced lakeside getaway. Detailed Itinerary Day 1: Arrive in Wuning, explore the county's lakeside trail, night tour of the West Sea Arrive in Wuning and check into a lakeside homestay. After settling in, take a walk along the West Sea lakeside greenway; the breeze brushes across the lake, and the view is wide. In the evening, wait for the sunset by the lake and watch the sunset glow spill over the islands. At night, stroll through the local snack street in the county, taste Wuning's specialty stick fish and stewed bamboo shoots, and experience the quiet, local charm of the small town. Day 2: Lushan West Sea boat tour, island sightseeing, Jinkou Scenic Area In the morning, head to the pier to take a boat tour of the Lushan West Sea. The boat weaves between the islands, and the water is crystal-clear emerald. Land on the gently sloping islands, walk along the wooden trails, and overlook the landscape of lakes and islands. In the afternoon, head to Jinkou Scenic Area. The lakeside lawn is open, suitable for sitting and resting, feeling the lake breeze, and taking photos to record the lake and island scenery. Take your time and slowly enjoy the scenery where mountains and water blend. Day 3: West Sea Bay Scenic Area, stroll through old town streets, return trip In the morning, visit West Sea Bay, take a boat through the city's inner lake, and enjoy the landscape and local architecture on the shore. Afterward, stroll through the streets and alleys of Wuning's old town, visit local old shops, and pick out a few local lake specialties. After a simple lunch, head back home. Travel Tips 1. There is a significant temperature difference between morning and evening on the lake, so prepare a thin jacket for your trip; pay attention to sun protection when taking a boat. 2. The boat tour itinerary is relaxed, the island trails are mostly flat, and it doesn't require much physical exertion. 3. Spring and autumn are the best seasons for scenery, and summer is cool, suitable for a relaxing getaway.

Choosing to avoid the crowds during the National Day holiday and head into the mountains. This is also my ancestral home, which I've only visited three times but have recommended to friends countless times. This small county is small but well-equipped and very livable. It's also exceptionally clean, tidy, and orderly. In my opinion, its cityscape is even better than some popular second-tier tourist cities. Although there aren't many tourist attractions, especially the so-called "check-in spots," they are well-designed and planned with care. It's perfect for taking your time to walk around and look, and it's incredibly relaxing. It has superior natural beauty and rich cultural landscapes. The food is also very much to my taste (flavorful but not salty).

📍 Lake profile · Address: Yongxiu County, Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province, western foot of Lushan Mountain · Level: National 5A Tourist Attraction, National Forest Park · Core data: Water area of 308 sq km, over 1,600 islands · Vibe: Thousands of islands, glass observation tower, Zen-inspired islands, paradise for lake-fresh cuisine · Suggested visit: 1–2 days 🚗 How to get there? 🚄 High-speed rail + taxi (highly recommended): High-speed trains from many parts of the country to Yongxiu Station. After exiting, take a taxi for about 30 minutes directly to the main Sima Wharf scenic area, costing about CNY 50. It only takes 20 minutes from Nanchang West Station, with very frequent departures. 🚌 Tourist shuttle from Jiujiang: On weekends and public holidays, there is a direct shuttle bus from the lower square of Jiujiang Railway Station to Sima Wharf at 7:30 AM, returning at 3:30 PM. The trip takes about 2.5 hours and passes through Lushan Station, Yongxiu, and Xihai Hot Springs. 🚗 Driving: Navigate to "Lushan West Sea Sima Wharf" or "Mengshengshan Wharf." The scenic area has large, official parking lots, making parking convenient. It takes about 1.5 hours from Nanchang. 🎫 Admission info The combined admission and boat ticket is mandatory. All islands are visited via a fixed route; you cannot choose islands or get off midway. First-time visitors must be aware of this rule to avoid disrupting their itinerary. The first boat departs around 8:20 AM, and the last return boat is around 5:00 PM. It is recommended to enter in the morning, as it tends to get windy and cloudy in the afternoon, which may affect your experience. ✨ Must-visit highlights 1. 🗼 Xihai Star Glass Tower (the ace viewpoint) — 99 meters high, offering a 360-degree panoramic view of the magnificent "thousands of islands." The top of the tower is the best photo spot in the entire scenic area. Take a side-profile photo while sitting on the glass observation deck with the Heart Island and winding lake bays beneath you for a strong visual impact. Requires a separate ticket, but it is absolutely worth it once you reach the top. 2. 🏝️ Yunjui Island (core main island) — The island where you will spend the most time. It has well-maintained trails, flat paths, and centralized viewing areas. The lotus pavilion and the area in front of Xihai Pavilion are excellent photo spots. The beach with coconut trees and emerald lake water creates a full Southeast Asian vibe. 3. 👩 Goddess Island (quiet walking route) — Primarily features lakeside trails. The environment is quiet with no steep climbs, perfect for a slow walk and enjoying the lake breeze. The statue of the Goddess is a popular photo spot. 4. 🌿 Ruoxi Island (best for families) — An island full of childlike fun where you can feed cute animals and play in the sand. The waterfront area is relatively safe. Children under 1.2 meters are often free, and it is easy for seniors to explore as well. 5. 🏘️ Zhelin Old Town (the soul of night tours) — An intangible cultural heritage food and creative park. You can enjoy a night tour to watch the large-scale immersive light show "Xihai Dream Chasing" and experience northern Jiangxi's intangible cultural heritage and authentic local food. 6. 🏞️ General Gorge (light hiking + water play) — Suitable for light hiking along the canyon. There are small waterfalls and shallow pools along the way, making it very cool to splash in the water during summer. 🗺️ Itinerary recommendations One-day classic route (no backtracking, just follow this): Tourist Center ticket check and boarding → Yunjui Island (core main island, explore slowly) → Goddess Island (walk along the lakeside trail) → Ruoxi Island (family interaction/sand play) → Xihai Star Glass Tower (climb to the top for a panoramic view) → Boat return → Evening night tour of Zhelin Old Town + dinner The whole trip takes about 4–6 hours. The pace is relaxed and suitable for both seniors and children. This route covers all core areas of the scenic spot with moderate physical exertion. Two-day deep tour: · Day 1 Lake tour and island hopping: Morning boarding → Yunjui Island + Goddess Island + Ruoxi Island → Afternoon Xihai Star Glass Tower → Evening night tour of Zhelin Old Town → Stay at Jinkou Scenic Area or Wuning County · Day 2 Mountain and water connection: Morning light hike and water play at General Gorge (or experience West Sea rafting in summer) → Lunch with lake-fresh food → Afternoon return, stop by the "most beautiful water road" on the Yongwu Expressway for photos 🍜 What to eat? 🥇 Zhelin Lake Bighead Carp Soup — The number one taste label of Lushan West Sea. The soup is made from freshly caught bighead carp from the lake. The broth is milky white, fresh, and not fishy. Add a spoonful of chili sauce for an incredibly fresh flavor. You can get the freshest catch at the home-style restaurants near the wharf; two people only need to order a small fish head. 🥘 Wuning Assorted Pot — The undisputed top dish of the area. Pork, tripe, yuba, wood ear mushrooms, and dried bamboo shoots are braised together. The soup is rich and flavorful, salty and savory. It goes perfectly with white rice—you can eat two bowls. It's easy for seniors and children to eat, so if it's your first time, order this pot first. 🐟 Fried small silverfish — A specialty of Zhelin Lake. Fried until crispy or stewed with tofu, it's a perfect snack with drinks. 🥬 Wild mountain vegetables + free-range chicken soup — Stir-fried ferns are refreshing, and oil-braised spring bamboo shoots are the most fragrant. The soup from free-range mountain chicken is yellow and the meat is firm; it's delicious even without dipping sauce. Dining advice: Prices near the scenic wharf are on the higher side. For better value, go to Yongxiu County or Wuning County outside the scenic area for authentic and affordable food. The street food alleys in Wuning County hide the most authentic flavors of the northern Jiangxi water town. 🏨 Where to stay? · Jinkou Scenic Area (top choice for vacation): Lake-view hotels and hot spring homestays are concentrated here. You see the lake as soon as you step out, offering a strong vacation vibe. Lushan West Sea Resort is located on the main island and has a cluster of forest treehouses with complete facilities. · Inside Zhelin Lake Scenic Area (immersive sightseeing): You are right by the lake, suitable for travelers who want to board the boat early and enjoy the morning mist alone. · Wuning County (best value): Lowest prices and most authentic food. Suitable for budget-conscious travelers and foodies. It is also convenient to take a taxi to the scenic area. 💡 Practical tips 1. Morning entry is best: The light is stable and the weather is comfortable in the morning. It tends to get windy and cloudy in the afternoon, and lake reflections can affect photo quality. 2. Wear flat, non-slip shoes: The lakeside boardwalks are damp and can be slippery in the early morning or after rain. High heels and flip-flops are not suitable. 3. Bring a windbreaker: It is windy on the lake, and it is more noticeable when riding the boat or climbing the tower. Light-colored clothing looks clean and fresh in photos. 4. Sun protection and mosquito repellent are must-haves: There is no shade in the lake area, and UV rays are strong. There are many plants in the mountains, so there are many mosquitoes, especially in summer. 5. Bring your own water and snacks: There are very few convenience stores on the islands, and prices are high. Prepare drinking water and some dry food in advance. Travel light but bring enough supplies. 6. Check the weather before departure: Boat schedules are greatly affected by strong winds and heavy rain. In bad weather, service will be temporarily suspended, so check the weather before you go. 7. Best season: Spring and autumn are the most comfortable. Summer is suitable for water activities but requires sun and mosquito protection. Winter is less crowded and quiet, but it is windy and cold. The beauty of Lushan West Sea is the shock of 1,600 islands scattered like pearls on the emerald lake beneath your feet at the Xihai Star Glass Tower; it is the Southeast Asian vibe of coconut shadows reflected in the clear lake water on the beach of Yunjui Island; it is the reassurance of the steaming milky white broth when the Zhelin Lake fish head soup is served; it is the dreaminess of the "Xihai Dream Chasing" performance spreading across the lake when the lights of Zhelin Old Town turn on in the evening. It is not exquisite or noisy, but it keeps the most worth-visiting lake and mountain scenery of Jiangxi at the foot of Lushan Mountain with a piece of emerald water with thousands of islands and a bowl of fish soup that is fresh to the bone. Pick a sunny day, take the first boat, go to Lushan West Sea, and slow down your life among the thousands of islands. 🏝️

Lushan West Sea is perfect for those with only two or three days who want to minimize travel time between locations. Make the lake island tour your only major experience, and spend the other two days exploring the Sima area and Zhelin Old Town at a leisurely pace. Stay near the Sima Visitor Center to make it easy to dedicate a full day to island hopping. When booking your room, confirm the location of your accommodation relative to the pier—don't just look at the package price. Day 1 | Settling into the Sima area After arriving, check in near the Sima Visitor Center. Spend the rest of the time eating and resting in the area, and don't feel rushed to cram in too many sights. For dinner, look for local dishes like silverfish dumplings, silverfish potstickers, or steamed whitefish. If you want to save money, prioritize your budget for the lake island tour on the second day and choose convenient, practical options for accommodation and meals. Day 2 | Island hopping from Sima Pier After breakfast, depart from Sima Pier and focus your time on the lake island tour. First, take in the expansive lake views at West Sea Star, then head over to Yunjui Island. The island also features Yunjui Pagoda, West Sea Pavilion, and the Lotus Pavilion. You can choose what to see based on the actual boat stops and your energy levels that day. The islands are connected by floating bridges. As you walk slowly, you can see the water stretching out from your feet, and when the wind picks up, the lake surface shimmers. This tour is the highlight of the day, so don't add activities in other areas. Return to the Sima area for dinner and rest, avoiding the hassle of dragging your luggage to a new place. Day 3 | Eating and strolling in Zhelin Old Town before departure After checking out, take your luggage with you and head to Zhelin Old Town. The official scenic route arranges this in the same direction as the Sima Pier lake tour, making it a perfect, relaxing stop before your return trip. Stroll through the Intangible Cultural Heritage Food and Creative Park, try some local snacks, browse the creative products, and then leave according to your return schedule. Transportation and boat schedules will affect your connections that day, so check the official scenic area channels before you set off. If you are short on time for your return trip, shorten your stay in the old town. There is no need to rush to the Jinkou scenic area to check off more spots.

Last week, my friends and I took a road trip to Wuning Fishing Village. As soon as we arrived, I was instantly charmed by this slow-paced village right next to Lushan West Sea✨. It’s free from the noise of over-commercialization, filled only with the scent of lake breezes and fresh fish—perfect for anyone looking to escape the city and relax. Wuning Fishing Village is located on the southern shore of Lushan West Sea. It was originally a settlement for generations of local fishermen. After recent renovations, it has retained its authentic fishing village charm while adding plenty of recreational and dining facilities, so you can experience genuine fishing life without worrying about convenience🚗. The village stretches along the lakeshore, with grey-tiled, white-walled houses arranged in a scattered layout. Fishing nets drying at doorways and hanging fishing lanterns preserve the original atmosphere. Walking along the paths, you’ll often run into local fishermen carrying freshly caught fish and shrimp—it’s such a lively, authentic scene. I’ve put together a few must-do activities that I personally tested and loved: ① Boat tour on a small wooden boat⛵: You can find local fishermen with hand-rowed boats. It costs about 100 yuan for 4 people. The boatman will take you around the nearby lake bays where you can see plenty of water birds. If you're lucky, you might even catch the fishermen pulling in their nets. You can even try catching some fresh silver fish yourself! The lake breeze is so refreshing—it's much more interesting than taking a big cruise ship. ② Stroll through the fishing village market: Located in the small square at the village entrance, stalls open after 2:00 PM. Local residents sell homemade dried fish, silver fish sauce, and sun-dried lotus seeds at very reasonable prices. I bought 2 jars of silver fish sauce to take home for noodles—it's delicious! Also, don't miss the freshly fried small fish cakes; they're 5 yuan each, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. ③ Fishing Culture Exhibition Hall⭐: A small, free-to-enter venue displaying old fishing nets, model fishing boats used by veteran fishermen, and the history of Wuning Fishing Village. It takes about 10–15 minutes to walk through and is a great way to learn about old fishing customs. ④ Sunset viewing platform: Located at the far east end of the village, it’s completely unobstructed. In the evening, the lake surface is painted orange-red by the sunset, and the distant islands appear and disappear in the haze. It’s incredibly photogenic, so remember to go half an hour early to grab a spot. For a niche experience, I recommend trying to go net fishing with the local fishermen. Just book it in advance with your guesthouse owner. It costs 80 yuan per person to go out on a boat with a fisherman for half a day. You can learn how to cast a net and haul in the catch. You can even have a restaurant cook the fish you caught—the taste is truly different when you've caught it yourself😋. 📍Address: Just navigate to "Wuning Fishing Village, Jiujiang City." It’s a 1.5-hour drive from Nanchang or 1 hour from downtown Jiujiang. There is a free parking lot at the village entrance, which is very convenient. For food, I recommend the "Fisherman's Joy" restaurant at the village entrance. Their signature big white fish is caught and cooked fresh—the meat is incredibly tender with no muddy taste. Also, the steamed eggs with silver fish and the fish head with tofu and ginseng soup are local specialties. You can have a very satisfying meal for about 60 yuan per person. For accommodation, there are many guesthouses along the river in the village. You can see the lake as soon as you open the window. In the off-season, you can stay in a lake-view room for just over 100 yuan per person, which is great value. ⚠️Small tips: It’s windy by the lake, so I suggest bringing a light jacket. Do not go swimming in the lake on your own. When buying local specialties, feel free to bargain a bit. Don't buy the ones with overly fancy packaging at the scenic area entrance; it’s more cost-effective to find the small stalls set up by local grandmas. Take 2 days on the weekend to come here, enjoy the lake breeze, and eat some fresh fish. You'll feel completely relaxed. It’s a hidden gem I’ve visited recently and definitely want to go back to~

Focus on relaxation and leisure. Just experiencing the lake view and camping atmosphere is healing enough.

Take your wife to these 8 places for National Day, and she praised me for a whole year 01 Wenzhou | Zhejiang I originally went to Wenzhou for Yandang Mountain, but my wife ended up enjoying Liu Bowen's hometown even more than I did. Yandang Mountain is best visited in the morning. ⏰ Arrive at Lingfeng before 8 AM when there are fewer people and the mist hasn't lifted—the peaks look like ink paintings in photos. The water flow at Dalongqiu depends on the season; around National Day it's not at its fullest, but it's cool, and a full loop takes about 2 hours. 📍 Xianglingtou Village at the entrance to Lingfeng Scenic Area has lots of farmhouse restaurants. I recommend ordering a plate of local stream fish and fried rice noodles—it's cheaper than eating inside the park. ⚠️ The core sights at Yandang Mountain are not close to each other. Walking the whole route will tire you out, so buy a scenic shuttle ticket to link them rather than forcing it. Liu Bowen's hometown is in Wencheng, about half a day by car from Yandang Mountain. It's a place to wander slowly—old houses, archways, and covered bridges connect into a pleasant route. My wife loved the wood carvings; I couldn't stop thinking about the Wencheng vermicelli sold at the gate. 🚄 There are buses from Wenzhou South Station to Wencheng, and driving yourself is more flexible. If you're with elderly family, the hometown area is mostly flat and easier than Yandang Mountain. 02 Hezhou | Guangxi Hezhou is my personal top pick. Guposhan is best after rain—the air smells of wet wood and moss, and the waterfalls have good flow. ⏰ Enter the mountain in the morning and finish before noon to avoid the afternoon heat. 📍 Near Xiangu Waterfall at the foot of the mountain you'll find stalls selling stuffed tofu and youtang. The first sip of youtang is bitter, but the second sip is addictive. Avoid the daytime tour group rush at Huangyao Ancient Town—go in after 4 PM when the sun makes the stone streets shine. The Dragon Bridge viewpoint makes everyone look good in photos. 🍜 Try the fermented bean powder and plum wine in the ancient town, but restaurants on the main street are tourist-priced—walk a couple of alleys for better value. ⚠️ Shops close early around 8 PM, so buy late-night snacks in advance if needed. Watching the sunrise at Dongtanling requires an early start. It gets windy on the summit; my wife wrapped up and was still cold. It's great for couples and photographers; if you're with kids the trails are steep, so be cautious. To visit the three main spots, allow 2 days—don't cram them into 1 day. 03 Nanchong | Sichuan I visited Langzhong Ancient City twice. The first time was a quick pass-through; the second time I finally got the hang of it. The core of the ancient city is small but winding. 📍 Enter from Zhuangyuan Square, walk along Wumiao Street to Zhongtian Tower, and you'll cover the highlights. ⏰ Climb Huaguang Tower after 5 PM; the Jialing River and the roofs of the ancient city come together better at dusk than during the day. 🍜 Zhang Fei beef and Baoning vinegar are must-tries, but I recommend finding a small local place for a hot bowl of liangmian (hot cold noodles)—the sour and spicy flavor opens the appetite. ⚠️ Some inns advertise "river view rooms" but only offer a narrow slit of a view. Ask the owner for a real photo or video before booking. It's ideal to stay one night with your wife. In the morning, before tour groups arrive, stroll the empty stone streets—the quiet is worth more than any attraction. The ancient city is free to enter; some courtyards charge separately—follow the official announcements for the day. 04 Enshi | Hubei Enshi Grand Canyon is a workout. ⏰ Try to get to the visitor center by 7:30 AM, walk the Yunlong fissure first, then head to Qixingzhai—doing it the other way can mean queues that test your patience. The fissure is slippery; wear non-slip shoes. The cliffside plank walk at Qixingzhai looks scary but is manageable—my wife held onto me the whole time, which was a bonding moment. The Shennong Stream boat culture area is perfect for a boat ride; the canyon walls closing in on both sides are impressive. 📍 Near Badong Wharf there are small shops selling baked potatoes and hezha; hezha with rice is simple but tasty. Enshi Tusi City is good for an afternoon—grand architecture and great photos, but it's commercialized, so don't expect too much. The Qingjiang Gallery section in Enshi depends on weather: the water is green on sunny days and gray on overcast days, so check the forecast before you go. 🚄 There are shuttle buses from Enshi station to the scenic spots, but services are infrequent. Driving is more convenient. If you're with elderly people, just do the fissure and skip Qixingzhai. 05 Xinzhou | Shanxi Yanmenguan is best in the morning—⏰ arrive before 9 AM. It's windy on the watchtower, so bring a jacket. The pass isn't long; a relaxed 2-hour walk is enough. 📍 Below the pass there are stalls selling Daixian stewed fish and yellow wine. Drink the yellow wine warm for the full effect with the old-wall backdrop. ⚠️ Some "costume photo" stalls in the park have unclear pricing—ask first. Laoniuwan is where the Yellow River meets the Great Wall; the sight is striking. Afternoon is best when the sunset turns the river golden. It's best by car—public transport is inconvenient. Reserve a full day for Mount Wutai Scenic Area; temples are spread out, so take the park shuttle. 🍜 Taihuai Town's vegetarian meal is worth trying—light but satisfying. This route is ideal in autumn. Around National Day, Wutai gets cold in the mornings and evenings—don't dismiss a down jacket. If you're with your wife, pick a Laoniuwan guesthouse with a courtyard for stargazing at night. 06 Yongzhou | Hunan Shangtang Ancient Village was my biggest surprise on this trip. The village is small but well preserved. 📍 Buyinging Bridge and Angshan are the main photo spots; when there's morning mist the scenes look like paintings. ⏰ Try to arrive before 9 AM so the light hits the alleys diagonally—no retouching needed for portraits. There are farmhouse meals in the village. 🍜 I recommend blood duck and stuffed tofu for homestyle flavors. ⚠️ The village doesn't charge a general entrance fee, but some ancestral halls have separate fees—bring some cash. It's great for a slow walk with your wife or to bring parents—the roads are flat and not tiring. Hunan is still hot during National Day. Avoid strong sun at noon—sit by an old house doorway, drink tea, and listen to locals talk; it's more relaxing than rushing attractions. Follow official announcements for any temporary closures of courtyards. 07 Jiujiang | Jiangxi I suggest staying on Mount Lu. ⏰ Go to Hanpoyou for sunrise—the chance of a sea of clouds is high. Huajing, Ruqin Lake, and Jinxiu Valley can be linked into a half-day route. There's a lot of walking, so wear comfortable shoes. ⚠️ Prices on the mountain are higher—buy bottled water in town beforehand. Lushan West Sea is nice in the afternoon—take a boat and visit the island hot springs. 🍜 In Wuning County, try the stick fish and stewed pot dishes; flavors lean spicy. 🚄 There are buses from Jiujiang station to Mount Lu. For West Sea, driving or hiring a car is recommended. With your wife, plan to stay two nights—one day for sights and one day to relax in Guling Town with coffee. National Day is crowded; cable cars have long lines, so get an early start. Ticket prices and cable car hours are subject to official announcements on the day. 08 Anyang | Henan Taihang Grand Canyon is best by car. ⏰ Enter Peach Blossom Valley in the morning for good light and clear water. The canyon trails are well maintained and kid-friendly. 📍 Shibanyan Town has many art students sketching; farmhouse restaurants are clustered in town. 🍜 Try Linzhou stewed vegetables and handmade noodles—the portions are large, so don't overorder. Yinxu is best in the afternoon—the indoor exhibits are cool. ⚠️ Yinxu's new museum and old museum are separate—don't go to the wrong one. Hire a guide or rent an audio guide; otherwise, a bunch of oracle bone inscriptions can be baffling. My wife was interested in bronze ware and spent almost 3 hours inside. Expect big temperature swings in Anyang during National Day—bring a light jacket. You can split Taihang Grand Canyon and Yinxu into 2 days—one for nature, one for culture—for a comfortable pace. Ticket reservations follow the official announcements on the day. If I had to pick from these 8 places, I'd recommend Hezhou and Yongzhou first—fewer people and authentic scenery, and my wife was happiest there. Which place are you planning to take her to for National Day? Share in the comments.

For your first trip to Lushan West Sea, the easiest way to choose accommodation is to decide on your main activities first: if you want to take a boat tour of the lake and explore Zhelin Old Town in the evening, stay in the Zhelin Town or Sima Tourist Center area; if you want to visit the Jinkou Water World and Zhonghai Resort area, choose accommodation near Jinkou. Below is a 2-day, 1-night itinerary based in Zhelin Town, perfect for first-timers who want to experience both the lake islands and the canyon. Day 1 | Stay in Zhelin Town, focus on lake and island tours After arriving, drop off your luggage at a homestay or hotel in the Zhelin Town or Sima Tourist Center area. We recommend this area because the official routes integrate Sima Pier, Mengshengshan Pier, Zhelin Old Town, and accommodation into a single, convenient travel plan. When booking, confirm how to get from your accommodation to your chosen pier—don't just look at the room rate. Start your lake and island tour during the day from either Sima Pier or Mengshengshan Pier. Take a boat to the islands and follow the scenic route to explore the islands and bridges. West Sea Star, Yunjiju Island, Canghai Island, and others are part of the official lake and island experience. For your first visit, there's no need to try to visit every island; just stop at the ones that interest you. Lake activities and island tours are subject to the pier's schedule for the day. Check the official scenic area channels for opening hours and ticketing information before you set off. After returning to Zhelin Town, explore Zhelin Old Town to see intangible cultural heritage exhibits, creative souvenirs, and snacks. For dinner, try some West Sea fish or local snacks. If you want to include the floating platforms in your day, there are Lushan West Sea floating platforms near Sima Pier. This is an optional experience, so decide based on your interest and energy levels—no need to rush just to check it off your list. Day 2 | A leisurely walk in West Sea Grand Canyon before heading home After breakfast, head to West Sea Grand Canyon and spend half a day walking along the canyon trails and enjoying the landscape. The official guide lists West Sea Grand Canyon as a separate activity that can be combined with the lake and islands. It is not at the same location as the lake piers, so if you are staying in Zhelin Town, you need to plan your transportation for the day in advance. Driving yourself is recommended, or confirm available local shuttle options. Have lunch near the canyon or back in Zhelin Town, then depart based on your travel route home. If you prefer to visit Jinkou Water World, Art Island, or the Zhonghai Resort area, change your second day to the Jinkou area and move your accommodation base to near Jinkou. It is not practical to try to walk between these two areas on short notice. Before booking your room, check the map locations of the piers, scenic area entrances, and the canyon. Especially if you are not driving, contact your accommodation directly to confirm if they can arrange transfers or call a taxi for you.

The environment is quiet, the air is fresh, and the pace is slow—perfect for driving around the lake, relaxing by the water, escaping the hustle and bustle, and enjoying a leisurely, healing vacation in this small town of mountains and water.

For some cities, when the name comes up everyone just says "oh", and then nothing more happens. It’s not that they’re not fun, they’re just too easy to pass by. These six places—I’ll tell it to you straight one by one. 1️⃣ Xianning | Hubei The Chibi ancient battlefield is more than a bunch of steles and statues. Stand by the river at the cliffside inscriptions, feel the wind coming off the water, and you can understand why someone once dared to set fire here. ⏰ Enter after 4 PM if you can. The light hits the characters "Chibi" at an angle, so photos won’t blur. 📍 From the main gate, visit Fengchu Temple first, then go up to Yijiang Pavilion, and finish at the cliff inscriptions—it's on the way and won’t add extra walking. Take it slow—about 2 hours is enough. ⚠️ Don’t buy the "Three Kingdoms commemorative coins" at the gate; flip them over and they’re made in Yiwu. What’s worth bringing home is Chibi’s local green brick tea. In town, Yangloudong ancient village has an old tea shop—stop for a bowl before you leave. 🍜 Afterward, go into Chibi city to eat guandao fish. Small riverside restaurants along the Yangtze are half the price of those in the scenic area. Good for bringing parents—few steps, seniors can manage. 2️⃣ Hinggan League | Inner Mongolia Arxan National Forest Park sounds like Switzerland, but it’s actually volcanic landforms amid a sea of trees. ⏰ Late September to early October is peak—birches turn golden, and Tuofeng Ridge’s Tianchi looks like a sheet of blue glass set in gold. 📍 Go to the Unfrozen River before 7 AM. Mist rises off the water, and cattle stand in the river like a painting. Don’t go into the water—the temperature stays just above zero and it’s slippery. ⚠️ The park is large; private cars aren’t allowed in. You must take the sightseeing bus. Tickets for entry and the shuttle are sold separately and are valid for two days—don’t try to do it as a same‑day round trip, it’s exhausting and not worth it. Staying in Tianchi town inside the park saves about 2 hours of commuting compared with staying in Hinggan League city. Best for photographers and hikers. If you bring kids, the deer park is more appealing than Tianchi and you can feed tamed deer. 3️⃣ Ningde | Fujian Taimu Mountain and Baishuijiang are in different directions—don’t try to do both in a day. Taimu is for looking at rock formations; the narrow "one-line sky" requires turning sideways, and larger people really can’t get through. ⏰ Go to Taimu after rain, when mist pours from the rock crevices and the mountain seems to be breathing. 📍 At Xiapu Beiqi mudflats, arrive half an hour before sunrise. When the tide goes out, bamboo poles stick from the mud and the light draws lines. But don’t buy into "the most beautiful mudflat" hype—when the weather is bad it’s just mud. 🍜 In Xiapu county town, eat razor clams and oyster omelets—seafood stalls cluster on Taikang Road. Baishuijiang·Yuanyang Creek is best in summer for paddling barefoot, but the stones are sharp—bring an old pair of sandals. ⚠️ Many Xiapu mudflat photo spots are run by villagers. Ask the price before setting up a tripod. The fast train from Ningde station to Xiapu takes about 20 minutes—don’t take a taxi, it’s expensive. 4️⃣ Jiujiang | Jiangxi Mount Lu and Lushan West Sea are different—one’s on the summit, the other by the water, so don’t mix them up. For Mount Lu, go in early October when the maple leaves are red. To watch sunrise at Hanpo Pass you need to get up at 5 AM. It’s cold—bring a jacket. 📍 Guling Street is Mount Lu’s center; staying here is most convenient. But note: mountain lodgings can triple in price during peak season—book ahead, don’t wait until you arrive. The stair climb to Sandouping is over 2,000 steps round trip—if your knees are bad, take the cable car. Lushan West Sea is another experience—thousands of islands in the lake. A full boat tour takes about 2 hours. 🍜 In Wuning county town, try stick fish and stewed clay pot dishes. Lake-area fish head soup is heartier than the mountain’s stone chicken. Good for couples and families with older adults. Mount Lu is for slow wandering; the West Sea is for zoning out. There’s a shuttle from Jiujiang station to the Mount Lu cable car—don’t take unlicensed cars. 5️⃣ Jiaxing | Zhejiang Wuzhen and Xitang—pick one. Wuzhen West Scenic Zone is well managed but crowded. After 9 PM, tourists thin out and lanterns reflect in the water—that’s the real Jiangnan. 📍 In the West Scenic Zone, "bridge within a bridge" is hard to get a clear shot from—stand on it and you can photograph the intersection of two canals, but the spot is popular. Xitang feels wilder, with smoky rain corridors lined with small eateries. 🍜 Try Madam Guan’s stinky tofu and gorgon fruit cake—eat them while they’re hot. ⚠️ Xitang’s bar street is noisy at night—if you stay in a riverside guesthouse, ask if it’s next to the bars. Wuzhen tickets are valid for the day. Xitang is free to enter at night but smaller attractions close. Good for girlfriends and couples—wear flats, the stone streets are rough. From Jiaxing South station there’s a bus to Wuzhen for ¥5—don’t take a taxi. 6️⃣ Aksu | Xinjiang The mysterious Tianshan Grand Canyon has reddish‑brown cliffs that look like they’ve been sliced open. ⏰ Enter after 3 PM; sunlight pours into the canyon and the rock faces turn red. 📍 The valley floor has fine sand that makes walking tiring—wear high‑top shoes. ⚠️ There’s no signal deep in the canyon—don’t go in alone. Never enter on rainy days; flash floods come fast. Tickets are cheap, but the internal shuttle costs extra. Walking in takes about 40 minutes one way—judge your limits. 🍜 After the canyon, go to Kuqa to eat baked buns and jarred meat. On Old Town Hesteitan Street there’s a century‑old tea house—tea for 5 yuan a bowl, sit for an afternoon. Good for self‑drivers and landscape photographers. The end of Duku Highway is nearby—link them up if you’re passing. Aksu city is about 2 hours from the canyon; hiring a car is freer than joining a group tour. 7️⃣ Zhengzhou | Henan Zhengzhou is more than a transfer stop. ⏰ Start at the museum in the morning—doors open at 9 AM. Reserve tickets 3 days in advance; closed on Mondays. 📍 Among the nine must‑see items, don’t miss the Jiahu bone flute and the lotus‑crane square pot. Rent an audio guide or you won’t understand much. In the afternoon, go to Xiliu Lake, where locals stroll—few tourists. Qinwei Water City is newly built and looks nice when lit at night, but ⚠️ many shops are not open yet—don’t go out of your way. Shaolin on Mount Song is in Dengfeng, about 1.5 hours from Zhengzhou. 🍜 In Dengfeng, try sesame flatbread stuffed with mustard greens—street stalls taste better than the ones in the scenic area. Shaolin tickets include Sanhuang Village, but the full climb takes around 4 hours—know your limits. Good for families—plan to spend half a day at the museum. There’s an intercity train from Zhengzhou East to Dengfeng—don’t take touts at the station entrance. 8️⃣ Ganzi | Sichuan Xinduqiao, Mugecuo, Daocheng Yading, and Hailuogou—don’t try to do all four at once. For Xinduqiao, mid‑October is best when poplars turn yellow and light dances in the valley. 📍 Wait at Gongga viewing platform in the morning for the first sunlight on the peaks—it's cold, wear a down jacket. Daocheng Yading is best from September to October when Milk Lake and Five‑Color Lake open, but the altitude is 4,600 meters—⚠️ altitude sickness is no joke. Take Rhodiola beforehand and don’t run or jump. Mugecuo is near Kangding and half a day is enough. Hailuogou has glaciers, but ⚠️ the glaciers are retreating—don’t trust claims about "close contact with glaciers"; the viewing platforms are enough. 🍜 In Kangding, try yak meat hot pot; in Xinduqiao, try Tibetan yogurt. Best for experienced self‑drivers and trekkers. Ganzi prefecture is huge and car hires are charged by day—don’t overdo it; one spot per day is most comfortable. None of these eight places is a "visit or regret for life" kind of destination, but after you go you’ll think, oh, so that’s what it looks like. Pick one that’s close to you and go have a look.

Some places, if you take her once, she'll rave about you for years. It's not about how much you spend. It's that kind of approval that says you really know how to pick. Below are eight spots; I'll go through them one by one and point out the pitfalls to avoid. 1️⃣ Yongzhou | Hunan Shanggan Tang ancient village doesn't wow you at first glance, but by the second look you won't be able to move. The bluestone streets are worn shiny, the Xiemu River curves past the front of the village, and the old houses reflect in the water like someone hit pause. ⏰ It's best to enter the village after 4:00 PM, when the light hits the gatehouse at an angle and every photo looks stable. 📍 Buying Bridge is the village's most photogenic spot. Stand on the bridge facing the village to get the stone street and distant hills in the frame. The handmade liangfen sold in the village is CNY 5 a bowl, shaved fresh by a local woman and flavored with mint water—perfect for a refreshing break when you're tired. ⚠️ Don't eat at the restaurant by the village entrance; it's expensive and just average. Walk 200 meters in and you'll find a small blood-duck restaurant full of locals. It's suitable for older people too—the paths are flat, and a loop takes about 1.5 hours without being tiring. 2️⃣ Jinan | Shandong Baotu Spring, known as the "No.1 spring under heaven," and Thousand Buddha Mountain can be done in a day, but the order matters. Go to Baotu Spring in the morning. Arrive before 8:00 AM when it's less crowded and the three vents bubble most actively. 📍 Enter through the east gate and follow the path past Shuyu Spring and the Li Qingzhao memorial hall; a 40-minute loop is enough. ⚠️ Don't buy the CNY 10 packs of fish food by the spring—the fish won't eat them, it's a waste. At noon take a taxi to Thousand Buddha Mountain; it costs only the base fare to get there. The mountain isn't high, but the stone steps are steep. If you have kids, go up from the west gate for a gentler climb. Aim to reach Xingguo Zen Temple by 4:00 PM to get a panoramic view over Jinan—buildings and ridgelines layered in the mist are worth it. 🍜 After descending, go to Wenhua West Road for bazi rou (braised pork). Pour the meat broth over rice—my wife can eat an extra half bowl. During peak season, book tickets in advance via the official WeChat account; don't wait and queue at the gate. 3️⃣ Wudalianchi | Heilongjiang Wudalianchi sounds like a single pool, but it's five lakes formed by volcanic eruptions. ⏰ July to September is the most comfortable time to visit; other months can be so windy you'll feel blown away. 📍 Climb Laoheshan for sure. The boardwalk around the crater takes about 40 minutes to walk, and the ground is full of black volcanic cinders that crackle underfoot. You can drink water from Beiyin Spring directly—it has a bit of a metallic taste. My wife found it unpleasant, but I thought it was interesting. ⚠️ The scenic areas are far apart. Without a car it's hard to get around—either drive yourself or hire a car; don't expect public buses. 🍜 Back in town at night, try the mineral-spring tofu—so tender chopsticks can't hold it. With a bowl of hot soup, it wipes away the day's fatigue. 4️⃣ Baicheng | Jilin Da'an Nenjiang Bay sounds wild, but it's actually a very relaxed wetland park. ⏰ Go around 5:00 PM. The sun hangs over the river, the reeds rustle in the wind, and my wife said it felt like walking into a painting. 📍 Enter through the main gate and follow the wooden boardwalk to the river; it's a 20-minute walk to the viewing platform, so you don't need the electric cart—walking is nice. By the river you'll see people fishing, people pitching tents, and kids scooping minnows with nets. ⚠️ There are lots of mosquitoes—wear long pants and long sleeves and apply mosquito repellent twice. 🍜 Back in town, find a restaurant that serves a whole-fish banquet. Bighead carp stewed with tofu and deep-fried small silverfish—CNY 60 per person and you'll be stuffed. Great for couples who don't want to rush attractions and just want to zone out. 5️⃣ Foshan | Guangdong Qinghui Garden and Xiqiao Mountain are one refined and one grand; I recommend splitting them over two days—packing both into one day is too rushed. Get into Qinghui Garden right when it opens at 9:00 AM. When it's quiet you can really see the Manchu windows and gray stucco reliefs; light filters in and paints colorful shadows on the ground. 📍 Enter through the main gate and circle to the octagonal pavilion in the back garden—that angle is best for photos of your wife's back. Go to Xiqiao Mountain in the afternoon—take the cable car up and walk down. ⚠️ Don't wear high heels; there are many slippery stone steps. The Guanyin statue on the mountain is impressive, but my wife prefers the stream near Baiyun Cave—take off your shoes and step in; the cold makes you pull your feet back. 🍜 After descending, go to Guanyao for lai fen—handmade rice noodles in a thick broth. It's CNY 8 a bowl. 6️⃣ Zhoukou | Henan The Taihao Fuxi Mausoleum and Taiqing Palace are about 40 km apart, so driving is recommended—you can do both in a day. ⏰ Visit the Taihao Fuxi Mausoleum in the morning—go early rather than late. After 10:00 AM tour groups arrive and the peace is gone. 📍 The Cai Pond and yarrow garden in front of the tomb are worth a stop; my wife took over a dozen photos of the thousand-year-old cypress trees. In the afternoon go to Taiqing Palace, the hometown of Laozi—the stone tablets and ancient well in the courtyard have a lot of character. ⚠️ There are few dining options near the two sites; bring snacks or return to Zhoukou city to eat. 🍜 In town there's an old shop that makes hu la tang for CNY 2 a bowl, served with fried dough—my wife said it was milder than she expected. Good for couples interested in cultural history; those just after scenery might find it dull. 7️⃣ Xishuangbanna | Yunnan The Dai Ethnic Garden, the tropical botanical garden, and the Primeval Forest Park offer three very different experiences. ⏰ Go to the botanical garden in the morning while the mist is still lifting—giant water lilies and palms in the fog look otherworldly. 📍 In the west area take the electric shuttle to Baihua Garden, then slowly walk toward the east area—don't try to do everything, your legs will give out if you finish the east area in one go. Go to the Dai Ethnic Garden in the afternoon—the water-splashing show starts at 3:00 PM. My wife got soaked and laughed louder than anyone. ⚠️ If you rent Dai costumes for photos, haggle—the opening price of CNY 80 can often be negotiated down to CNY 30. The forest park is best for the second day to watch the peacock release show, which runs at 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM—don't miss it. 🍜 At night head to the Gaozhuang Night Market. Pounded chicken feet and pineapple rice are must-orders; expect about CNY 40 per person. 8️⃣ Jiujiang | Jiangxi Mount Lu and the Lushan West Sea sit one on the mountain and one by the water—three days is the most comfortable arrangement. ⏰ Head up Mount Lu in the morning while the clouds and mist still cling—Ruqin Lake looks like it's draped in gauze. 📍 The Flower Path and Bai Juyi's thatched cottage are on the way. After that, go to Xianren Cave—the boardwalk there opens to wide views, and my wife stood and watched for 10 minutes without wanting to leave. ⚠️ It's 7–8°C cooler on the mountain than at the foot, so bring a jacket. Go to the Lushan West Sea on the second day and take a boat tour; the water has a bluish-green tint. ⏰ After 4:00 PM the lake gets windy and sparkly, and it's the best time for photos. 🍜 Try Wuning braised-pot dishes—fish head stewed with tofu and smoked pork stewed with bamboo shoots. One steaming pot warms you through and fades the soreness from climbing. You don't need to do all eight of these places at once. Pick two or three and take your time—it's better than rushing. If I had to choose, I recommend Yongzhou and Xishuangbanna: one quiet, one lively, and both got great feedback from my wife. How many have you been to? Don't want to deal with crowds during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day? 8 budget-friendly cities I've personally tested 01 Jiujiang | Jiangxi Lushan is famous, but during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day, the crowds on the mountain are thicker than the fog. My advice is to do it in reverse: go to Lushan West Sea first, then Lushan. West Sea is in the Wuning direction, with a wide lake and scattered islands. A boat tour takes about 2 hours. Ticket prices vary by boat type; please refer to the official daily announcement. ⏰ Arrive at the West Sea pier before 9:00 AM to board before the tour buses arrive. The lake breeze carries moisture and feels cool on your face—more comfortable than air conditioning. For Lushan, if you must go during the holiday, choose to enter the mountain after 3:00 PM. There are relatively fewer people watching the sunset at Hanpokou. ⚠️ The lines for the sightseeing buses on the mountain will make you question your life choices. I recommend staying on the mountain and visiting Ruqin Lake and Huajing early the next morning to avoid the crowds. 🍜 The small eateries around Simatou in downtown Jiujiang offer affordable and filling radish cakes and stir-fried rice noodles. Suitable for families with elderly people and children; slow down the pace and don't try to do too much. 02 Chuzhou | Anhui Langya Mountain is very close to downtown Chuzhou; it costs around 10–20 yuan by taxi. Admission is inexpensive, and student IDs can get you half-price; please refer to official information for details. The mountain isn't high and isn't strenuous to climb, making it suitable for people who don't exercise much. The core route is simple: enter at Yefang Garden, stop at Zuiweng Pavilion, circle Shenxiu Lake, and exit from Nantian Gate. A slow walk takes about 3 hours. ⏰ I recommend entering the mountain at 7:30 AM. The morning mist hasn't cleared yet, and the pavilions are hidden in the shadows of the trees, so you won't have to fight for a photo spot. ⚠️ The Zuiweng Pavilion area is the most crowded during the holiday; go early if you want to take photos without people. The steps at Langya Temple are steep; elderly people with bad knees should take the gentle slope detour. 🍜 After descending, head to the farm-style restaurants along the Langya Ancient Trail. Chuzhou tribute goose and Guanba beef are local specialties, costing about 50–60 yuan per person. Suitable for solo travelers or couples. You can finish touring in half a day and spend the afternoon cooling off in the Chuzhou Museum. 03 Guiyang | Guizhou Guiyang is the provincial capital with the most convenient transportation on this list. It's accessible by high-speed rail, and the city's subway and bus systems cover most areas. If you want to keep costs low during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day, staying around Huaxi or Qingyan is more cost-effective than staying in the city center. Tianhetan is best visited in the morning; it features karst caves and waterfalls, and a tour takes about 2 hours. ⚠️ The ground inside the cave is slippery, so wear non-slip shoes. Visit Qingyan Ancient Town in the afternoon. The back alleys are more interesting than the main street. Rose candy and braised pig's trotters are everywhere, but prices on the main street are inflated; walk a couple of steps into the alleys for cheaper options. You need to pick the right weather for Gaopo Yunding Grassland; go on a sunny day. On cloudy days, it's just a white void and you won't see anything. ⏰ After 5:00 PM, the light is soft, but it's windy, so bring a jacket. Use Huaxi Park for a stroll; it's free and a place where locals go for walks. 🍜 Don't eat snacks in the tourist areas in Guiyang; go to Huguo Road or Caijia Street in the city. Suitable for young people on a budget who want to see mountains and water. 04 Jinhua | Zhejiang Hengdian World Studios is the most expensive and time-consuming spot in Jinhua. My advice: choose only one park and don't try to do too much. Choose between the Qin King Palace and the Qingming Shanghe River Map; the former is grand, while the latter has more of a lively, everyday atmosphere. ⚠️ Holiday ticket prices are higher than on weekdays. Book online in advance; queuing for tickets on-site will leave you sunburned. The Shuanglong Scenic Area is north of downtown Jinhua, featuring karst caves and Taoist temples; half a day is enough. The temperature inside the cave is low; it's like walking into a refrigerator in summer, so remember to bring a light jacket in autumn. ⏰ After 2:00 PM, the light shines obliquely into the cave entrance, making for great photos. 🍜 In the Guzicheng area of downtown Jinhua, ham and crispy cakes are the signature items, but don't buy them at the entrance of tourist spots. Go to the old shops around the wet markets for honest prices. 🚄 There are direct shuttle buses from Hengdian to Jinhua Station, taking about 1 hour. Suitable for film buffs and families with children, but I don't recommend Hengdian if the kids are too young, as there's too much walking. 05 Jingzhou | Hubei The ancient city wall of Jingzhou is well-preserved; a walk around the city takes about 2 hours. There are many free sections; you only pay to climb the city gate towers, and the price is low. ⏰ Get on the city wall after 5:00 PM. The sunset hits the bricks, and the moat glitters with gold—it's ten times more beautiful than during the day. 📍 The Binyang Tower at the East Gate is a classic photo spot, but it's packed during the holidays. Walk toward the South Gate; it's much quieter, and you can see locals playing chess at the base of the city wall. Jingzhou lantern folk customs are concentrated around the Spring Festival; there might not be large lantern shows during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day. Check official announcements before you go so you don't have a wasted trip. ⚠️ Dining inside the ancient city is a bit expensive; head out of the city gate toward Jingzhong Road, where there are many small eateries. 🍜 Jingzhou fish cake and Zaotang noodles are the standard local breakfast; a bowl of noodles costs 6 yuan, which is a great deal. Suitable for solo travelers or couples who love a historical atmosphere but don't want to spend a lot of money. 06 Baishan | Jilin Changbai Mountain is the most niche budget-friendly choice among these eight because the high transportation costs deter some people. But if you go in autumn, the visibility of Heaven Lake is high, and the forests are ablaze with color—it's worth it. 🚄 There are shuttle buses from downtown Baishan to the Changbai Mountain scenic area, taking about 2 hours. I recommend staying in Erdaobaihe Town; homestay prices are much lower than in popular holiday tourist areas. ⏰ Arrive at the mountain gate before 7:00 AM and take the first eco-bus up the mountain; you'll have a better chance of seeing Heaven Lake. ⚠️ It's windy and cold at the summit; you'll need a down jacket during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day. Renting a coat at the foot of the mountain costs about 50 yuan. The West Slope has many steps, while the North Slope is relatively less strenuous; choose the North Slope if you're bringing elderly people. 🍜 The Korean-style cold noodles and barbecue in Erdaobaihe Town are very filling for 40–50 yuan per person. Suitable for people willing to spend a bit more on transportation in exchange for peaceful autumn scenery. 07 Guilin | Guangxi Guilin isn't new, but Xingping and Longji can help you avoid the crowds in the city. Xingping Ancient Town is very small and can be toured in 20 minutes; the highlight is the trail along the Li River. ⏰ Go at 6:30 AM. The river is misty, the bamboo rafts haven't started moving yet, and it's as quiet as a painting. Reed Flute Cave is a karst cave with flashy lighting; some people like it, while others find it tacky. ⚠️ There are many wet steps inside the cave, so wear non-slip shoes. The Longji Rice Terraces are golden during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day, but the drive up the mountain is long; if you get carsick, take medicine in advance. 📍 Jinkeng Dazhai in Longji is less crowded than Ping'an Village, and the terraces are more spectacular. For the essential Li River bamboo raft experience, choose the section from Xingping to Nine-Horse Mural Hill. Prices are per raft; please refer to the official daily announcement. 🍜 For Guilin rice noodles, go to small street-side shops in the city; 5 yuan for two taels. Don't eat in tourist areas. Suitable for photography enthusiasts and couples who want to take it slow. 08 Dongguan | Guangdong Some might be surprised that Dongguan made the list, but the Humen Bridge area is indeed suitable for a budget-friendly half-day trip. 🚄 It costs about 20 yuan by taxi from Humen High-Speed Railway Station. You can't walk on the bridge itself, but the Weiyuan Fort and the Opium War Museum are nearby and free. ⏰ Go after 4:00 PM; it's windy by the river, and you can watch the sunset and the bridge lights turn on. ⚠️ The museum is closed on Mondays, except during holidays; check before you go. Walking along the seaside boardwalk for a while to catch the breeze and zone out is very comfortable. 🍜 Local roast goose and seafood stalls in Humen are cheaper than in the city. Suitable for office workers in the Pearl River Delta who want to find a place that isn't crowded to get some fresh air; it's a half-day round trip. Of these eight places, I most recommend Baishan and Jingzhou. One is far enough to be quiet, and the other is close enough to be economical. Which one will you choose for the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day? Let's chat in the comments section.

Drive around the lake, visit the islands for sightseeing, and enjoy the clear water, lush green mountains, and quiet landscape, far away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Recommendation: The lake scenery is pristine, quiet, and uncrowded. It is road-trip friendly with a low intensity of activities, making it perfect for relaxing, vacationing around the lake, and for travelers who prefer lake and mountain scenery.

Following up on the last post! Here is the Lushan West Sea guide perfect for a weekend getaway! ✅ Two days and one night is just right, and it's really cost-effective. 🏞️ Day 1: Relaxing and Camping Departed from Changsha early in the morning by car 🚗. Set navigation to Watson House Club / Zhonghai Lushan West Sea Resort Visitor Center, and arrived in 3.5 hours! It's just a few kilometers into the scenic area, and there's a small parking lot inside, making it very convenient for driving! Tickets are only CNY 39.9/person, which is a great deal! The scenic area is huge! The best part is that the canopy, camping tables, and chairs are all free ⛺️. Playing board games, enjoying the breeze, and taking photos with friends—the relaxation level is maxed out! The water activities and coffee shops inside are optional, and there are truly no hidden traps 🤭. 💡 Quick tip: There isn't much shade in the scenic area, so try to go on a cooler day! Remember to wear sunscreen! 🚢 Day 2: Boat Tour of the Islands On the second day, head straight to Sima Pier to catch a boat! They run every hour, with the earliest one after 9:00 AM. 🎫 Ticket + boat ride: 150 | Buy one day in advance for only 140 (available on Amap). We took Route A, starting at Yunju Island. There are 9 islands in total to explore! Ruoxi Island and Huaguoshan have so many monkeys 🐒, peacocks 🦚, squirrels 🐿️, and various birds 🐦... all for free! My friend and I were shocked! It's definitely a great place to bring kids. The highest point, West Sea Star, offers a panoramic view of the entire West Sea and is super photogenic! The separate ticket is CNY 69; it's up to you if you want to go for it. Although the scenery is beautiful, I have to say it's a bit tiring to walk around. We played for about 3–4 hours and headed back when we couldn't walk anymore. 💡 Quick suggestion: You mostly have to walk between islands, which is hard on the legs. Make sure to leave enough time! Not recommended for the elderly or those with limited mobility! 🌅 Free photo spots ▪️ Watch the sunset at Mengshengshan Pier! The orange-colored sea creates an amazing atmosphere. ▪️ Take a walk along the Sima Pier corridor; it feels like being at the seaside! 🍜 Must-try food | Fisherman's House (next to Sima Pier) Recommended by the homestay owner. The price is reasonable, with 3 dishes costing just over 100, and it's definitely not a tourist trap! ✔️ Minced pork with eggplant: Goes perfectly with rice! ✔️ Fried egg with silverfish: Huge portion and super fresh. ✔️ Hot and sour cabbage: Refreshing and cuts through the grease. The owner is super nice and even gave us some of their own cucumbers before we left 🥒. 🏠 Accommodation recommendation | Qigu Homestay Located right next to the Sima Visitor Center, the location is very convenient. The landlady is super enthusiastic, the room is clean and cozy, and the disposable amenities are very complete. After breakfast, sitting in the courtyard, feeling the breeze, and swinging on the swing was delightful~ It was a super comfortable stay! ✨ Overall experience We went during the college entrance exam period, so there were very few people, and we didn't have to wait in line at all. The islands were cool, the scenery was healing, and the food and accommodation were affordable. It's perfect for a short weekend getaway or a relaxing trip for people from Changsha, Zhuzhou, and Xiangtan!

Hey everyone! I just got back from Wuning, and I have to give it a huge shout-out: this "landscape Wuning" has been underrated for way too long! 😭 When people think of Jiujiang, they only think of Mount Lushan, but the small town of Wuning boasts the emerald waters of Lushan West Sea, the "glowing" night views of West Sea Bay, the mysterious Luxi Cave, and the cloud-top flower fields of Huayuangu... After this trip, I felt like I was living inside a landscape painting. Plus, it's uncrowded, the water is clear, the air is sweet, and it's perfect for a weekend getaway! I covered all six major areas on this map, arranged in the order of "County Town—West Sea—Luxi—Wilderness" to keep the route efficient and the pace relaxed. For those visiting Wuning for the first time, just follow this itinerary👇 🗺️ [Basic Attraction Information · Six Major Areas] 🏙️ County Town Area (Mostly free, walking/short drive) · Wuning Museum (Free): Explains Wuning's landscapes and history thoroughly. It's air-conditioned, so make this your first stop to cool off. 🏛️ · Wenfeng Tower: A landmark of the county town. Climb the tower for a bird's-eye view of the Xiu River and the whole city. It's best to visit in the evening for great photos. 🗼 · Xiu River Viewing Belt + Wetland Park (Free): Stroll or cycle along the Xiu River. You'll see flocks of egrets in the reed marshes—a poetic part of the locals' daily life. 🦢 🌊 West Sea Area (The highlight of the trip) · Lushan West Sea (Admission + boat ticket from approx. 150 yuan): Highly recommended! Thousands of islands dot the emerald, jade-like water. Taking a boat through the scattered islands, the water is so clear you can see the reflection of the clouds. It's basically the "Maldives of Jiangxi." ⛴️ · West Sea Bay Scenic Area (Free/Night tour extra): The "Bund" of Wuning. At night, the light show + musical fountain + reflections on the Xiu River are incredibly romantic. 🌃 · Huayuangu Scenic Area: Seasonal flower fields. Peach blossoms in spring, lotus flowers in summer—a hidden paradise on an island in the West Sea. 🌸 🕳️ Luxi Area · Luxi Cave (Admission approx. 60 yuan): A cave millions of years old with diverse stalactites. The colorful lights make it look like an underground palace. It's so cool inside that you won't want to leave during the summer. 🕯️ ⛰️ Wild Ecology · Shenwu Mountain Scenic Area: A primeval forest shrouded in mist, packed with negative oxygen ions. A top choice for hiking and refreshing your lungs. 🌲 · Liu Mountain: Beautiful mountains and clear waters, perfect for light hiking. 🙏 Cultural Blessings · Yousheng Palace + Mituo Temple: Taoist and Buddhist temples hidden among the mountains and waters. The incense is peaceful—a great place to pray for safety. 🕕 🚗 [3-Day 2-Night · Efficient Itinerary] Day 1: Relaxed tour of the county town · First encounter with the landscape 🏙️ · Morning: Wuning Museum → Climb Wenfeng Tower for a bird's-eye view of the city 📷 · Afternoon: Cycle/stroll along the Xiu River Viewing Belt → Watch egrets at the Wetland Park 🦢 · Evening: West Sea Bay night light show, musical fountain + reflections on the Xiu River. Wuning's nights are even more beautiful than its days 🌃 Day 2: Lushan West Sea · Emerald waters and thousands of islands ⛴️ · All day: Lushan West Sea (approx. 30-min drive). Take a boat to tour the islands, climb Guanhudao Island for a panoramic view of the "thousands of islands," and head to Huayuangu in the afternoon to see flowers/pick fruit. Return in the evening. The water colors this day will make you forget all about your phone. 💙 Day 3: Caves and wilderness · A mysterious finale 🕳️ · Morning: Luxi Cave (approx. 40-min drive) to see the spectacular stalactites. Cool and dreamy 🕯️ · Noon: Pray for blessings at Yousheng Palace 🙏 · Afternoon: If you have energy, go for a light hike at Shenwu Mountain for some fresh air, or head home directly 🌲 Only have a weekend? Day 1 in the county town + West Sea Bay night view, and Day 2 at Lushan West Sea is enough for the highlights! 🏨 [How to choose accommodation?] · First choice: Wuning County Town. Most convenient for food, housing, and transport. West Sea Bay and the Xiu River are within walking distance. 150–300 yuan, great value, perfect for lazy travelers. 🏨 · For a full vacation vibe: Stay at a resort hotel/homestay by Lushan West Sea. Open the window to a lake view, watch the mist roll over the water in the morning. 300–600 yuan, a dream for photography lovers. 🌅 · For slow travelers: Stay one night at Huayuangu or on an island to fall asleep to the sound of water, but remember to book in advance as there aren't many rooms. 🏡 🍜 [Must-see for foodies | Wuning flavors are so fresh] 2. Wuning Stewed Pot: Chicken, ribs, and dried bamboo shoots slow-cooked in an earthen pot. Piping hot, a hearty dish for guests in the mountains. 🍲 3. Wild Small River Fish: A West Sea specialty. Fried, braised, or in soup, it's incredibly fresh. 🦐 4. Wuning Rice Noodles/Stir-fried Noodles: The status of Jiangxi noodles goes without saying. Start your morning with a bowl of spicy stir-fried noodles for a boost. 🍜 5. Mugwort Rice Cakes/Alkaline Water Cakes: Eat mugwort rice cakes around Qingming Festival for a soft, fragrant treat; stir-fried alkaline water cakes with cured meat are finger-licking good. 🌿 6. Xiu River Dried Fish/Dried Bamboo Shoots: The top choice for souvenirs, perfect for stewing meat at home. 🎁 📸 [Instagrammable spots] · Lushan West Sea Guanhudao Island: Climb high to photograph the emerald waters and thousands of islands. It's most beautiful in the morning mist. Wear a white/blue dress for the perfect shot. 💙 · West Sea Bay Night View: Light show + musical fountain + reflections on the Xiu River. Use long exposure to capture the flowing light on the water. Pure romance. 🌃 · Wenfeng Tower: Climb the tower in the evening to photograph the city + the sunset over the Xiu River, with golden light spilling onto the water. 🌅 · Luxi Cave: Use the colored lights in the cave to capture silhouettes of the stalactites. Mysterious and dreamy. Remember to use a flash or a slow shutter speed. 🕯️ · Wetland Park: Photograph egrets taking flight or the backlight on the reed marshes for a fresh, Japanese-style aesthetic. 🦢 💡 [Practical Tips] 1. Best season: April–June (Huayuangu flower fields) and September–November (crisp autumn air, bluest lake water); summer is also great for water activities. 🍂 2. Transport: Take a high-speed train to Nanchang/Jiujiang, then transfer to Wuning. Self-driving or hiring a car is highly recommended as attractions are scattered and public transport is infrequent. 🚗 3. Tickets: Most county town attractions are free. Buy West Sea boat tickets online for better deals, and book in advance during peak season. 🎫 4. Clothing: Wear comfortable, non-slip shoes! You'll be doing a lot of walking for boat tours, caves, and hiking. Even sandals should be non-slip. 👟 5. Pace: Wuning is perfect for slow travel. 2–3 spots a day is enough. Sitting by the lake and zoning out is the real point of the trip. 🐢 🚫 [Avoid these pitfalls] 1. Don't visit the West Sea on a rainy day: The lake looks gray and gloomy, and photos won't turn out well. Check the weather before you go; it's only the "Maldives" when it's sunny. ☀️ 2. Don't book cheap "West Sea one-day tours," especially from people soliciting on the street. They usually include shopping stops. Stick to official platforms or drive yourself. 🙅♀️ 3. The cave floor is slippery: There is water on the steps in Luxi Cave. Hold the railing, wear non-slip shoes, and don't rush. ⚠️ 4. Ask for the price before ordering fish: Check the price list at lakeside fish restaurants before ordering. If you see "market price," confirm the cost first to avoid being overcharged. 💰 5. Don't buy "dried fish" at the scenic area; the markup is high. Go to the county market or official specialty stores for better deals. 🛍️ 6. Bring mosquito repellent in summer: Mosquitoes are very enthusiastic by the lake and wetlands, especially in the evening. 🦟 Alright! Wuning is truly the kind of small town where you "don't want to keep grinding once you arrive" 💚 It has the emerald waters of Thousand Island Lake, the coolness of caves, the negative oxygen ions of the wilderness, and fish heads that are fresh to the bone. The best part is that it's uncrowded, beautiful, and affordable. Do you want to visit Lushan West Sea first, or go explore Luxi Cave? Or do you have a secret Wuning spot? Some cities are born marketers, while others just quietly go about their business. I've visited these 8 places one by one, and I haven't been ripped off or fallen into any major traps. Calling them "zero-bad-review" might be a bit absolute, but at least I can't find any major faults. 1️⃣ Foshan | Guangdong I recommend arriving at Qinghui Garden before 9:00 AM. ⏰ That's before the tour groups flood in, so you can hear the sound of koi tails splashing in the water. The garden isn't large, but the window lattices and gray sculptures are worth a close look. Forty minutes is enough. Don't hire a guide; it's more relaxing to explore on your own. For Xiqiao Mountain, don't take the cable car up and walk down; do the opposite. 🚄 Enter from the North Gate, hike through Baiyun Cave first, then head up to Baofeng Temple to see the Guanyin statue, and finally take the cable car down. This saves your knees and saves time waiting in line. As for food, Shunde cuisine is standard daily fare in Foshan. 📍 The double-skin milk at that old shop on Daliang Huagai Road comes out at 3:00 PM and closes once sold out. ⚠️ Don't buy blind man's cakes at the entrance of tourist spots; they are expensive and not fresh. Just buy the packaged ones at the supermarket. It's suitable for bringing parents along—the roads are flat, there are plenty of trees, and there are teahouses everywhere if you get tired. Remember to bring an umbrella during the rainy season; the stone paths are slippery. 2️⃣ Yantai | Shandong Penglai Pavilion is famous, but I'd rather you stay a night on Changdao Island. ⏰ Get on the island after 4:00 PM when the tourists have dispersed and seagulls follow the boat. You can't take stones from the pebble beach at Crescent Bay, so just look. Penglai Pavilion itself can be toured in two hours; focus on the Su Gong Shrine and the battery. ⚠️ If the cable car line is over 40 minutes, don't take it; it only takes 20 minutes to walk up. Longkou Nanshan is suitable for those interested in Buddhist architecture. 📍 There is free incense at the foot of the Big Buddha; don't buy it outside. 🍜 After coming down the mountain, go to Nanshan Road for a bowl of lamb soup with "mianyu" (dough fish noodles). It's a satisfying meal for CNY 20. You can visit Yantai Hill and Chaoyang Street together in the evening. 🚄 City buses cost CNY 1, which is more cost-effective than taking a taxi. It's best to come in September or October when the apples and grapes are ripe. 3️⃣ Huangnan | Qinghai Kanbula was the most unexpected stop on this trip. ⏰ Enter the scenic area at 3:00 PM when the light hits the Danxia landforms, making them glow red. 🚄 It's about a two-hour drive from Xining. The road conditions are good, but there are many curves, so take motion sickness medicine in advance if you get carsick. You need to transfer between cruise boats and sightseeing buses inside the scenic area, so don't lose your ticket. 📍 The stop at Nanzong Nunnery is worth getting off at; it's quiet, and you can see the Yellow River winding at the bottom of the valley. ⚠️ The altitude is around 2,500 meters, so don't run or jump; walk slowly. The viewing platform at Lijiaxia Reservoir is windy, so bring a jacket. 🍜 After coming out, have a bowl of "paozhang" noodles in Kanbula Town; the chili oil is fragrant but not harsh. July and August are the most comfortable times; the rapeseed flowers have just finished blooming, and it's not crowded. It's suitable for people who like quiet and photography, but children might find it boring for a family trip. 4️⃣ Jiujiang | Jiangxi I advise you not to go to Mount Lu on the weekend. ⏰ Go up the mountain on Wednesday or Thursday; the cable car won't have lines, and homestays in Guling Town are 30% cheaper. 🚄 Take the bus from Jiujiang Station to the cable car entrance; it takes 40 minutes and saves over CNY 100 compared to a taxi. Visit the West Line's Flower Path and Fairy Cave first, then go to Hanpokou in the afternoon to try your luck at seeing the sea of clouds. ⚠️ The steps at Sandiequan Waterfall are steep; if you are with elderly people, don't go down—just look from the viewing platform. Mount Lu West Sea is suitable for the second day. 📍 Take a boat from Sima Pier to the fishing village; the oranges on the island are CNY 10 for 3 jin and are sweet. 🍜 Eat Wuning stick fish near the pier; it's caught and cooked fresh. Prices on the mountain are high, so bring your own water and snacks. July and August are great for escaping the heat, but there are many thunderstorms, so don't head to the mountain top after 3:00 PM. 5️⃣ Bijie | Guizhou I spent three hours inside Zhijin Cave. ⏰ Enter the cave before 10:00 AM when there are fewer people and all the lights are on. 📍 Don't rush past the "Overlord Helmet" and "Silver Rain Tree" spots; stand for five minutes and watch the water vapor drift in the light. There are many steps inside the cave, so wear non-slip shoes. ⚠️ The exit and entrance are not in the same place, so don't park your car in the wrong spot. 🚄 Take the high-speed train from Guiyang to Zhijin Station, then take a 20-minute taxi ride. You should come to Baili Dujuan (Hundred-Mile Azalea) in late March or early April. 🍜 Have Qianxi beef rice noodles for breakfast with a braised egg for CNY 12. The flowering period is only two weeks, so check the official flower news in advance so you don't miss it. The Dafang hand-torn tofu in Bijie city is worth a special trip to eat. It's suitable for visiting in the spring; in other seasons, just see the cave. 6️⃣ Yulin | Shaanxi I've been to Wave Valley twice. ⏰ The first time was at 5:00 PM; the light hit at an angle, and the textures looked like red-hot iron. The second time was at 8:00 AM; there were fewer people, and I could hear the sound of the wind passing through the rock crevices. 📍 You have to turn sideways to pass through the "Thread of Sky" section, so take off your backpack first. ⚠️ Don't step on areas with fences; the Danxia landform is very fragile, and one step takes decades to recover. 🚄 It costs about CNY 40 to take a taxi from Jingbian County. Hongshixia (Red Stone Gorge) is in the north of Yulin city; go in the evening when the cliff carvings are warmed by the setting sun. The Yellow River side in Jia County is suitable for the morning to see Xianglu Temple hanging over the river. 🍜 Have Yulin "pin sanxian" (mixed three fresh ingredients) and fried soy milk for breakfast; look for them in the alleys of the old town. May, June, September, and October are the most suitable times; it's sunny in the summer and cold in the winter. 7️⃣ Songyuan | Jilin Chagan Lake is two different places in winter and summer. ⏰ Come in late December to see the winter fishing; leave at 6:00 AM and stand on the ice to wait for the nets to be pulled out. 🚄 It's a one-and-a-half-hour drive from Songyuan city; go with a local guide and don't go onto the ice by yourself. Come in the summer to take a boat tour of the lake; 📍 the lotus flowers in North Lake bloom best in mid-July. 🍜 The full fish feast by the lake is only cost-effective if there are many people; if there are few, just order the stewed bighead carp with tofu, which is enough. Jinchan Island is suitable for bringing children; it has a beach and shallow water areas. ⚠️ There are many mosquitoes on the island, so long sleeves and long pants are more effective than mosquito repellent. There isn't much to see in Songyuan city, so save your time for the lake. Eat crabs in September and October, watch birds in June, and watch fishing in the winter. 8️⃣ Datong | Shanxi I recommend hiring a guide for the Yungang Grottoes. ⏰ Enter with the first wave at 8:30 AM; focus on Cave 5 and Cave 6. 📍 For the open-air Big Buddha in Cave 20, stand far back to see it; the proportions are only right from there. You need to buy a separate ticket to climb the Hanging Temple; ⚠️ it has limited capacity, so scan the code to book as soon as you arrive. If you are afraid of heights, just look from below; many people get weak knees when they go up. 🚄 It's about a one-and-a-half-hour drive from Datong city to the Hanging Temple. Mount Heng (Northern Yue) can be visited on the same day; take the cable car up and walk down. 🍜 Eat Hunyuan jelly noodles in the county town; add chili oil and broad beans. The Datong Ancient City Wall looks good after the lights are turned on at night, but don't eat knife-cut noodles at the base of the city wall; it's expensive. Go to Gulou East Street, where there are more locals. July and August are the most comfortable times; it's cool inside the grottoes. Coming in winter is also fine; there are fewer people, but the wind is harsh. Of these eight places, the ones I most want to visit again are Kanbula and Chagan Lake. One is quiet, and the other is wild. How many have you been to? Share your zero-bad-review small cities in the comments section.
