Wat Chantharam Worawihan

🏡 Wat Chantharam Worawihan, a third-class royal monastery, is an ancient temple built during the Ayutthaya period. Originally named Wat Bang Yi Ruea Klang or Wat Klang, it is situated between two other temples: Wat Ratcha Khrue and Wat Intharam. 🏞 Additionally, during the Ayutthaya period, the old Thonburi city was located at Wat Sala Si Na (currently Wat Kuhasawan) in Khlong Bangkok Yai. From the old city, one would reach Wat Ratcha Khrue first, hence it was called Wat Bang Yi Ruea Nai (North). Wat Chantharam, being in the middle, was called Wat Bang Yi Ruea Klang, and Wat Intharam, further along, was called Wat Bang Yi Ruea Nok (South). 🏰 Later, during the reign of King Rama III, Phra Ya Surasena (Khun Nen) renovated the temple and it was renamed Wat Chantharam. It was later elevated to a royal monastery. 🏰 The original ubosot (ordination hall) was built with bricks and mortar. It was renovated in 1974 and transformed into a reinforced concrete structure with Chinese-style architecture. 🙏 Inside, the principal Buddha image is cast in bronze in the Mara Vichaya posture. There is also a Buddha image in the posture of prohibiting the ocean, wearing a crown, which has been registered by the Fine Arts Department. 🏠 The vihara (assembly hall) also features Chinese-style architecture.
