Wat Ratchakhrue Worawihan

🏞Wat Ratchakhrue Worawihan, originally named Wat Wang Nam Won, is located near Khlong Bangkok Yai, Khlong Bang Nam Chon, and Khlong Tha Phra. The area often experiences swirling water currents. This ancient temple was built during the late Ayutthaya period. 🏕Mon people from Kanchanaburi migrated by boat to settle along Khlong Bangkok Yai. The Mon leader, Chao Ramani, oversaw the construction of three temples in the area. 🏡This temple is located upstream and is called Wat Bang Yi Ruea Nuea (Wat Ratchakhrue), Wat Bang Yi Ruea Klang (Wat Chantharam), and Wat Bang Yi Ruea Tai (Wat Intharam). Locals refer to it as Wat Mon, suggesting that the Mon people helped build it and that many Mon monks resided there. 🏰During the reign of King Rama I, the temple was renovated and established as a royal temple named Wat Ratchakhrue. 🏰In the reign of King Rama III, Prince Krom Phraya Dechadishorn renovated the temple again, constructing a new ordination hall. 🏰The old ordination hall was converted into a large vihara, and the Mon Mountain was restored, housing relics of the Buddha and a new mondop built on its peak.
