Yanguan Ancient City – Haining, Zhejiang

Photo taken on: 2025.11.22 Location: Haining, Jiaxing, Zhejiang I have always enjoyed visiting ancient towns and have been to many in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces. Recently, I wanted to organize and share the places I have been to, while also reliving those happy moments. The weather that day was very nice. Although it was late November, it was still warm and didn’t feel like winter had arrived. The city gate of the ancient town was quite grand, completely different from the gentle water towns of Jiangnan. On both sides of the gate were two tide walls. It was around 3 p.m. when I entered the city. The sunlight shone on the aged buildings, and the autumn leaves had turned yellow. There weren’t many people, so I could slowly savor the beautiful scenery. If it had been cloudy, it would have been completely dull and unattractive everywhere. It’s best to take advantage of good weather to go out and explore more. There weren’t many food options inside the ancient city, just some stalls selling pastries and buns, and a few restaurants. That day, I only bought a vegetable bun and a bag of fermented rice. The fermented rice mixed with water was very tasty, with a light wine flavor and a hint of sweetness. I finished it all the next day. There were also games where you could win coins, but I didn’t participate. Since it was getting dark, I just wanted to enjoy the scenery while the sunlight was still out. After 5 p.m., we returned to Shanghai.
