The guesthouse where both Empress Dowager Cixi and Emperor Guangxu once stayed

In 1900, as the Eight-Nation Alliance approached Beijing, Empress Dowager Cixi fled westward in a panic with Emperor Guangxu, and they stayed one night at the He family's large courtyard in Jiming Ancient Post. This large residence, with its five connected courtyards, was also the former command post of Jiming Ancient Post, the highest-ranking building in the entire ancient post. It's rare to see such exquisite brick carvings in Hebei, which suggests the He family's wealth at the time.
