Yuyuan Road: A century-old street where history converges

Yuyuan Road, a street in the western part of the downtown area of the Magic City. This road is not wide, but it is not short either, stretching from Jing'an Temple at the easternmost end to the vicinity of Zhongshan Park at the westernmost end, starting from Changde Road in the east to Changning Road in the west, spanning the Jing'an and Changning districts. Yuyuan Road was once as famous as Xiafei Road, known as one of Shanghai's 'upper corners,' and is one of the 64 'never to be widened' streets in Shanghai. In the third year of the Xuantong Emperor of the Qing Dynasty (1911), the Ministry of Works overstepped its bounds to reclaim land and build this road, which was named after the famous garden 'Yuyuan' at that time, and 'Yuyuan Road' was completed in 1918. Since then, numerous famous figures in the modern history of Shanghai and even China have left their footprints here, with countless celebrities having lived on Yuyuan Road, which can be described as 'a century-old Yuyuan Road, half of the modern history of Shanghai'. It can be said that Yuyuan Road, rich in historical heritage, is no longer just a tree-lined avenue.
