Shirakawa-go - Quaint, UNESCO Heritage site

A beautiful UNESCO Heritage site preserved for it's gassho-zukuri style houses built to withstand heavy snow and earthquakes. It'd have been even more beautiful in winter (and freezing too!). I only planned enough time to try some street food, but it was still a very enjoyable and relaxing day-trip for me. Hida beef is a must-try if you have no food restrictions. It is less oily and I prefer this to the famous A5-wagyu. I made bookings for direct bus through and fro Kanazawa station and Shirakawa-go Ogimachi (bus station) that took about 1.5 hours, Y2600 one-way. Unless you wish to stay overnight for the experience, a day-trip is sufficient to walk around (2 to 3 hours to cover the entire village), visit some paid exhibitions to learn about the way of life of the people in the past, and trying some street food or local-style cuisine at some eateries. You can learn a lot from the paid exhibitions as they display the items with illustrations that show how they were worn or used. Featured Places: (1) Observation deck for panoramic view of the town - 20 min. hike up a road.
