The Heart of Europe - Strasbourg

Strasbourg, a city located at the border between France and Germany, is known as the cultural pearl of Europe. Its unique scenery and cultural charm are truly impressive. The historical center of Strasbourg is situated on the Grande Ile, an island surrounded by two branches of the Ill River, and is known as 'Petite France.' This area boasts numerous exquisite buildings dating back to the Middle Ages. In 1988, it was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, marking the first time an entire city center received this honor. Petite France is also referred to as 'Little Venice.' The Strasbourg Cathedral is highly renowned; it was begun in 1176 and took 263 years to complete. Built with pink sandstone from the Vosges Mountains, its spire reaches a height of 142 meters. On July 11, the 23rd day of the European tour, the weather was clear, and a gentle breeze brought a hint of floral fragrance to Strasbourg. Strolling through this enchanting ancient city felt like stepping into a fairy tale. Walking along the main street, one can feel the perfect blend of French and German cultures, especially in the Grande Ile area known as 'Petite France.' German-style timber-framed houses, French Baroque-style hotels, and the Romanesque-Gothic St. Thomas Church, where even Mozart once performed, can all be found here. The most beautiful sights in Strasbourg are concentrated in the island area surrounded by the Ill River and along its banks. Walking along the riverbank, one can explore the entire old town. The buildings here mostly consist of medieval timber-framed houses and Baroque-style sandstone structures. The canal bridges crisscross, and along the way, there are old houses with brown roofs and black wooden beams on the exterior walls, exuding an ancient charm. Flowers on the windowsills sway in the wind, and occasionally passing boats glide across the water, creating shimmering reflections, full of harmony and romance.
