The joy of transferring trains - the Three Confucian Sites in Qufu.
After the Rizhao trip, we took a train from Junan North to Qufu East to transfer back to Beijing, and enjoyed the joy of transferring trains again.
We arrived at Qufu East at 10:00 am and stored our luggage in a shop outside. A friend of ours negotiated the price, and in the end, each of us paid only CNY 8. This is a good idea for future reference.
There are buses to the Three Confucian Sites at the train station. People over 60 can take the bus for free by swiping their ID cards. The fare is CNY 1, and you can pay by scanning a WeChat code. Alipay is not available. We experienced the "hospitality of Shandong."
We got off at the main entrance of the Temple of Confucius and visited the sites along the central axis to the north. Over the years, I have visited many Confucius temples, and this time I came to the place of origin.
After finding two places with distinctive architectural features, "Gou Xin" (Figure 15) and "Dou Jiao" (Figure 16), I was satisfied and went to the Kong Family Mansion.
What impressed me most about the Kong Family Mansion was the "cold bench."
The Temple of Confucius in Qufu, the Forbidden City, and the Chengde Mountain Resort are known as the three major ancient architectural complexes in China. In 1961, the Temple of Confucius, the Kong Family Mansion, and the Cemetery of Confucius became the first batch of "national key cultural relics protection units." In 1994, they were listed as a "World Cultural Heritage" by UNESCO, and in 2007, they were rated as the first batch of 5A tourist attractions in China.
After visiting the Kong Family Mansion, everyone was a little tired. Some took a taxi to the Cemetery of Confucius, and some took a taxi to Nishan Sacred Land. They bought the latest high-speed train back to Beijing.
I really wanted to go to Nishan Sacred Land, but I didn't have time, so I left it for another time when I have the opportunity to transfer trains.

Travel through a thousand years of time to experience the wisdom of Confucianism: The Qufu Three Confucian Sites
Qufu, bearing the most dazzling star in the brilliant galaxy of Chinese civilization—the core area of Confucian culture, is home to the world-famous Qufu Three Confucian Sites: the Temple of Confucius, the Mansion of Confucius, and the Cemetery of Confucius.
They are like a thick volume of history, quietly telling the story of Confucius and his descendants, and how Confucian thought has permeated the Chinese land for a millennium.
The first thing that catches the eye is the awe-inspiring stone archway—the Jinsong Yuzhen Archway. This archway was built in the 17th year of the Jiajing era of the Ming Dynasty (1538), and despite the passage of time, it still maintains its former grace.
The most eye-catching are the four lifelike unicorn beast statues standing on the throne, with their heads held high and majestic forms, symbolizing the sacred power of guarding knowledge, commonly known as 'Bi Tian Xie' or 'Chao Tian Hou'.
The horizontal beam of the archway is engraved with the powerful and vigorous characters 'Jinsong Yuzhen', written by the calligrapher Hu Zongxian of the Ming Dynasty. The font is elegant and lively, as if it could embody the profound influence of Confucius's thoughts within the strokes of the characters.
Stepping onto the bluestone path and passing through the Taihe Yuanqi Archway, it feels like entering a hall that condenses a millennium of Chinese culture, where every brick and tile carries the teachings of Confucian ethics, allowing visitors to silently comprehend the noble sentiments of 'benevolence, righteousness, propriety, wisdom, and faith' and the gentlemanly qualities of 'gentleness, kindness, respectfulness, thriftiness, and modesty' in their hearts.
Walking slowly along the imperial path paved with bluestone, you will come to the magnificent Shengshi Gate. After the expansion in the 12th year of the Hongzhi era of the Ming Dynasty and the renovation and renaming in the 8th year of the Yongzheng era of the Qing Dynasty, this gate was officially named 'Shengshi Gate' by Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty, to highlight the lofty praise for Confucius as 'a sage of the times', implying that Confucius's thoughts and wisdom can meet the needs of every era.
Stepping into the Dacheng Hall, the statue of Confucius stands tall and imposing. He is dressed in a vermillion robe, holding a ceremonial jade tablet, with a serene and wise demeanor.
Surrounding him are the portraits and memorial tablets of disciples and famous Confucians throughout the ages, indicating the transmission of Confucian teachings through generations.

A Journey Through Confucius' Qu Fu City
In ancient Qu Fu, where history thrives,
A city of tales, where valor survives.
Through cobbled streets, whispers of yore,
Legends and lore, forever adore.
At Confucius' shrine, wisdom's abode,
Where scholars gather, their reverence showed.
In tranquil gardens, thoughts take flight,
In Qu Fu's embrace, enlightenment's light.
Along the river, where memories flow,
Echoes of empires, in the soft undertow.
Through bustling markets, and temples grand,
Qu Fu's essence, forever stands.
From Mencius' wisdom, to the heavens above,
Qu Fu's spirit, an eternal love.
In every corner, history's embrace,

Qufu's old city
1. The Wan Ren Palace Wall has opening and closing ceremonies. If you're interested, you can watch them. There are beautiful lights at night.
2. The main gate of the Ming Ancient City. Walk along the moat from the Wan Ren Palace Wall to here. The lights along the way at night are very beautiful.
3. Drum Tower. Walk north from the main gate, and you will pass through many commercial streets. I really like the snacks at the Wuma Ci Street.
4. The Que Li Street on the east side of the Confucius Temple is very interesting. There are many small commodities for sale.
5. Keep walking north to the Yan Temple. The Yan Hui Temple and the humble lane related to Yan Hui's simple lifestyle are also here.
6. The Confucius Post Office is also worth a visit for those interested in this aspect.

Jining Qufu citywalk, a travel guide suitable for college students
In Qufu, the rumor that the average person can recite the Analects may not be true, but it's certain that everyone can quote 'Confucius once said...'.
Reading thousands of books and traveling thousands of miles, Confucius's hometown is a very suitable destination for contemporary college students to learn while touring. It's not costly, yet it allows you to truly step into the world of Confucius.
Upon arriving in Qufu, besides visiting the 'Three Kongs', aimlessly wandering in the ancient city might also lead to different discoveries.
Itinerary Details
Ancient City Stroll ➡️ Confucius Temple ➡️ Confucius Mansion ➡️ Confucius Mansion Family Banquet ➡️ Confucius Forest
✅ Ancient City Stroll
In the early morning, take a walk in the ancient city of Qufu without choosing a specific route, just going wherever the mood takes you. Pass by Drum Tower Street, Wuma Temple Street, Half Wall Street, and the moat, measuring the worldly life of the ancient city with your steps and experiencing the life of the locals in Confucius's hometown.
On the way, you might unexpectedly come across the Confucius Post Office and delightfully discover a cute Confucius.
✅ Confucius Temple
After breakfast, walk along the imposing palace walls into the Confucius Temple. On the second visit, its grandeur still leaves a profound impact.
The area of 140,000 square meters, the rigorous central axis symmetric architecture, the grand scale, and the majestic atmosphere, were praised by Mr. Liang Sicheng as 'one of the most interesting, perhaps the only unique example in the world'.
✅ Confucius Mansion
Coming out of the Confucius Temple, you enter the Confucius Mansion. Compared to the sacred Confucius Temple, the Confucius Mansion is closer to everyday life. Walking through the front and rear nine courtyards of the Confucius Mansion, you can glimpse into the daily life of Confucius's descendants.
✅ Confucius Mansion Family Banquet
At noon, have a Confucius Mansion family banquet at the Que Li Guesthouse outside the Confucius Mansion and taste the Confucian flavor with your taste buds.
✅ Confucius Forest
The Confucius Forest covers an area of nearly 2 million square meters, with more than 100,000 tombs. Perhaps influenced by the righteousness of Confucius's family, the Confucius Forest in the cloudy afternoon still does not feel gloomy, but rather peaceful.

Don't be fooled into going to Qufu, I didn't expect Confucius' hometown to be like this!
I visited Qufu ten years ago, and I didn't expect to have the opportunity to revisit my hometown ten years later.
In addition to the must-see three holes in Qufu, you also need to experience the authentic food of Qufu, which tastes super good!
1、Confucius Temple
South end of Shendao Road
Opening hours: 8:30-17:00
Ticket: 80 yuan, three-hole ticket 140 yuan
Recommended tour time: 1 hour
Recommended reason: Among the three holes, the Confucius Temple is the most worth visiting. It is a place where students of all dynasties worship. The Confucius Temple is one of the four major cultural temples in China. The trees here have a history of thousands of years, and the towering trees inside are very shady. The ancient buildings are mostly in Ming and Qing styles, where you can see the stele of Confucius' achievements and the apricot altar where he taught.
2、Kong Mansion
Gulou North Street, Lucheng Street
Opening hours: 8:30-16:30
Ticket: 60 yuan, three-hole ticket 140 yuan
Recommended tour time: 1 hour
Recommended reason: Kong Mansion is connected to the Confucius Temple, and you can reach the entrance of Kong Mansion after visiting the Confucius Temple. Kong Mansion is the place where Confucius' descendants live. It is a 9-entry courtyard with a three-way layout and a very large scale. The overall architecture is mainly Ming and Qing, the front is the place for handling government affairs, the back is the place to live, and there is a private garden at the end.
3、Kong Forest
Lindao Road, Shuyuan Street
Opening hours: 8:30-17:00
Ticket: 10 yuan, three-hole ticket 140 yuan
Recommended tour time: 1 hour
Recommended reason: Kong Forest is about 2 kilometers away from Kong Mansion and is the burial place of Confucius and his descendants. The entire scenic area is relatively large, but generally visiting Confucius' tomb is enough.
4、Wang's Meat Pie
100 meters north of the intersection of Jingxuan Middle Road and Humiao Street
Business hours: 7:30-20:00, average 15 yuan per person
Recommended dishes: pork with green onions, pork with fennel, pork with green peppers
Recommended reason: Wang's meat pie is really fragrant! I have to queue up in the morning, a pie is super big, it can be cut into 8 pieces, people with small stomachs definitely can't eat it. The meat pie is fried very fragrant, even the pork with green onions will not have a very exaggerated onion flavor, and the mouth is full of meat fragrance.
5、Old Qufu Lu Noodle House
108 Jingxuan East Road
Business hours: 9:00-21:00, average 30 yuan per person
Recommended dishes: pot meat noodles, fried chicken, pot meat rice
Recommended reason: You can come here to taste the local specialties of Qufu, but I personally think that Kongfu tofu is not very delicious. The pot meat is marinated stewed meat, not greasy, the fried chicken is salty and sweet, the noodles are also very chewy, mainly the price is really cost-effective.
Tips:
✔️The rickshaws and horse-drawn carriages on the side of the road are really unnecessary. Basically, the attractions are not far away. If you have good physical strength, you can walk. If you don't have good physical strength, you can call a taxi. It is definitely much cheaper than rickshaws and horse-drawn carriages.
✔️In addition to the three holes, you can also visit the Confucius Museum and Nishan Holy Land.
✔️You can stroll around Qushi University Night Market at night, there are many snacks, navigate to Baiyulan Qushi University Store and you will arrive at Qufu Three Holes Scenic Area.

Qufu, the ancient city of the State of Lu in the Spring and Autumn Period
In the long history of China, the State of Lu is just a small country not worth mentioning, but it was in this small country that Confucius, a scholar who influenced China for thousands of years, was born. Today, thousands of Confucius Institutes are spreading the ancient Chinese civilization to the world.
Among the many states of the Zhou Dynasty, the State of Lu was a 'ancestral state' of the Ji family and a 'looked-upon state' among the feudal lords, hence 'none is closer to Zhou than Lu, and none is more suitable for Zhou to rely on than Lu'. The State of Lu became the preserver and implementer of the typical Zhou rites, and people say 'all Zhou rites are in Lu'.

I never thought I would take a sightseeing bus to visit other people's cemeteries one day
Qufu is in the southwest of Shandong, managed by Jining City. Qufu was once the old capital of Yan Emperor, the birthplace of Huang Emperor, and the hometown of Lu Ban... But Qufu is known to the world mainly because the famous thinker and educator of the pre-Qin period, the founder of Confucianism, Confucius, was born, taught, and even the Confucius family and descendants were buried here.
The Confucius Temple, Confucius Mansion, and Confucius Forest in Qufu are collectively referred to as the 'Three Confucius' scenic area.
🌸Confucius Temple
The Confucius Temple is a temple where emperors of all dynasties worship Confucius. The second year after Confucius's death, it was rebuilt by Duke Ai of Lu on the site of Confucius's former residence. After expansions and renovations in various dynasties, the scale has become larger and larger, and it currently covers more than 600 acres.
Because the overall architectural form was completed in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it has the palace characteristics of red walls and golden glazed tiles, with nine courtyards in front and back, symmetrical along the central axis. The scale, the span of time, and the preservation are all unique in the history of world architecture.
🌸Confucius Mansion
The Confucius Mansion was originally the official residence of the Yan Sheng Gong, the eldest grandson of Confucius. Starting from Emperor Gaozu of Han, Liu Bang, he conferred the direct descendants of Confucius to worship Confucius on behalf of the state. By the Song Dynasty, he was conferred as Yan Sheng Gong, and an independent Yan Sheng Gong Mansion was built in the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty. With the continuous expansion of the Confucius Mansion, it has become the largest mansion in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, second only to the palace.
The Confucius Mansion covers an area of 240 acres, with more than 400 halls and houses. There are also nine courtyards in front and back, divided into three routes. The main buildings are all in the middle route. There are official residences in the front, residences in the middle, and gardens in the back. It is a very typical 'public and private dual-use' building.
🌸Confucius Forest
The family cemetery of the Confucius family is also the family cemetery with the longest continuation in the world. It has undergone countless expansions and expansions, and burials have never been interrupted for more than 2,000 years. Today, the Confucius Forest has more than 3,000 acres, which is larger than the old city of Qufu, with more than 100,000 trees, and it is a large natural botanical garden.
The 'Three Confucius' has such a scale, thanks to the respect of Confucius by the emperors of China for more than 2,000 years.

Tour order: Confucius Temple-Confucius Mansion-Confucius Forest
There are many highlights in the Three Confucius Scenic Area. If you don't want to rush, it's better to hire a guide.
The Confucius Temple and Confucius Mansion are connected, and the Confucius Forest is far away. It takes half a day to visit all of them.
I like the Confucius Temple the most.
The Confucius Forest is too big, it is recommended to take a sightseeing bus to see the flowers, and finally stop in front of Confucius's tomb to enter on foot. You can walk out along the Shen Road when you go out, or continue to take the sightseeing bus.

Confucius in the world
Stripping away the halo of the sage, returning to the records of history books and the texts of the Analects, Confucius is an old man with white beard who admires Zhou rites, admires the ancients, runs around, hits walls everywhere, is stubbornly a bit cute, and seems to be always chattering. Confucius is contradictory and complex, his multifacetedness is just used by all parties, and step by step pushed him to the altar of the 'sage'. The glory and destruction of later generations have long been irrelevant to Confucius.
After shedding the dust of history, the benevolence, moderation, and governance advocated and practiced by Confucius have deeply integrated into the genes of the Chinese people; the texts and deeds left by the master are still inspiring and warming generations of Chinese descendants.
Coming out of the Confucius Temple and Confucius Mansion, across the street is the Yan Temple. The gate of the Confucius Temple is like a market, and the gate of the Yan Temple is deserted. The joy of the humble alley is rarely heard afterwards, which is a sigh.
