A new choice for skiing holidays! The snow quality in Taiwu Nanshanli is simply top-notch!
The spa center is simply a treasure trove! Soaking in the snow, watching the snow scene, taking big shots, completely immersed in your own world. What is particularly worth mentioning is that Nanshanli is the first hotel in Chongli District to offer child care and full-day entertainment activities. Daily parent-child activities make children happy, and parents can also enjoy the fun of skiing with peace of mind. In general, Nanshanli Ski Resort Hotel is a perfect winter holiday destination! Not only is the snow quality top-notch, but it is also very suitable for bringing family and friends to play.

Getting There - Train Beijing - Chongli
Attractions - Skiing
Hotels - Many options
We spent a weekend in Chongli during the winter and I think we will repeat this every year. Very convenient to take the train from Beijing North station or Qinghe station. I recommend to plan in advance and buy the ticket when they are released two weeks in advanced 🎫
You can choose from different ski centers according to your wish and abilities. Weather in February can be cold but we were lucky with sun on the Saturday so we could enjoy our lunch in the sun outdoors. If you live in Beijing this is definitely a cool place to go during the long wintertime.
We fell in love with Thaiwoo ski resort as it has everything we need. Different restaurants, ski activities, afterski events and they even have a band that plays outside if the weather allows.

Winter paradise
We made a little escape out of Beijing to Chongli to go skiing. There are several ski resorts in the area however this season we have been coming to Thaiwoo for the first time.
The little ski village has everything, hotels, restaurants, coffeehouses, bars, cocktail bar, KTV and hot-spring.. in addition to skiing.. from Beijing it is about 2-3 hours drive. You can also take the fast train to Taizicheng from Beijing north or Qinghe and then it’s just a 6 minute drive to the resort. #newyearadventure #snowboard #wintervibe #olympics #thaiwoo #chongli

White Birch Hotel
About 5 years ago, the area where the hotel located it has really good view of everything around. But this time in my recent visit it is now surrounded with unfinished buildings, more like abandoned and even higher than the hotel itself. So the building looks isolated and all you can see from the balcony is the unfinished buildings instead of the beautiful ski slopes. in the other side of the hotel nothing much has changed, you can still see the mountains.
Now, facilities is a different story. It has been about 5 years but facilities hasn’t change nor updated. The toilet looks filthy with improper cleaning and rusted shower head pipe. Desk and chairs still the same. Although, they added wall heater for winter season (that’s a plus).
Below, you will see diffidences from 5 years ago to this date (January 24, 2023).

Amazing Experience at Dolomiti
The Dolomiti Mountain Resort is 140 miles northwest of Beijing in Sitaizui Township, Chongli County, Zhangjiakou, Hebei Province. It is famous for snow sports and beautiful scenery. The elevation varies from 4,921 feet (1,500 meters) to 7,133 feet (2,174 meters). The natural snow has a thickness of over 4.9 feet (1.5 meters), covering a total area of 741 acres (300 hectares). There are eight trails in total. Additionally, the Snowboard Park, Forest Park and Children's Paradise provide visitors with various skiing facilities.
The eight trails were named after famous Italian cities. The Rome Trail is designed for beginners to delight themselves in the snow world. The Torino Trail, the Parma Trail, the Milan Trail, the Bologna Trail, the Pisa Trail, and the Naples Trail are for intermediate skiers who can enjoy themselves with the rises and falls of slopes. Advanced skiers may enjoy themselves on the Florence Trail, which has an exciting length of 1,072 yards (980 meters), a width of 38 yards (35 meters), and an average slope of 27 degrees.
The resort also has various restaurants mainly serving Chinese food. In addition, new coffee shop has been opened for those who loves hot treats in cold winter.

Where to eat after Skiing?
The Brew House is just a convenient location to eat and drink a draft of beer after your ski adventure. Thaiwoo Ski Resort has lots of restaurants around but The Brew House is I think the nearest and has good beer to offer since it's too cold and beer can warm up my cold soul. It offers hamburgers, pizza, tacos, salads, bbq and more. For the drinks;Coffee, juice, wine, cocktails and beer. The price is average depends on your order. I love the pizza and beer the most. The ambiance is nice too.

Let's Enjoy the Winter Season!
Welcome to Thaiwoo Ski resort. It is located 20 minutes drive outside of Chongli District, Hebei, China. And it takes three hours drive by car from Beijing. I would recommend travelling there by car since it is the most convenient and comfortable transport. If you want to try skiing, it costs CNY580 a day per person. Slopes for beginners and Advanced are available. There are many restaurants to eat and hotels to stay in for a night or more nights. It is absolutely freezing here so wear the proper winter clothes once you visit Thaiwoo Ski Resort.

The Traveling Epicure
Cier Mountain Yunquan Temple.
After many years, I visited Cier Mountain again. After the rain, there were not many tourists, and the distant mountains were shrouded in clouds and mist. A huge statue of Guanyin, the goddess of fertility, was built at the foot of the mountain. The newly built Yunquan Temple in recent years is located below the ancient temple. It looks golden and brilliant but lacks flavor. The ancient Yunquan Zen Temple, which has a history of six to seven hundred years, has also been painted and renovated. I miss the appearance of decades ago. Although it was a bit rundown, it was very charming. The three caves of Bingfengshui are still there, but the entrance of the cave has been crudely repaired. There is only a willow tree left in front of the cave, and the other one has disappeared. After leaving the wishing corridor at the back, I climbed to the top of the mountain and overlooked the urban area of Zhangjiakou. The clouds and mist were misty, and the distant mountains were green.

Magnificent landscape
Zhangjiakou was an important military town in ancient times, with the Dajingmen Great Wall standing between two mountains to guard this crucial pass.
On the gate of the pass, there are four vigorous characters 'Magnificent Landscape', which is a famous landmark of Zhangjiakou and often appears in movies and TV shows.
Between the two gates, there is an ancient-style pedestrian street reminiscent of the Ming and Qing dynasties. It has an antique charm but is very quiet with few tourists. There are also several temples here. The Dajingmen scenic area is free of charge, but climbing the Great Wall costs 12 yuan, and it is free for those over 70 years old. There is a paid parking lot outside the scenic area.
Taizicheng Ruins (National Heritage 8): Located in Taizicheng Village, Sitai Mouth Township, Chongli District, it is a national key cultural relic protection unit of the eighth batch, from the Jin Dynasty, classified as ancient ruins.
The Taizicheng Ruins have been confirmed through exploration to be a rectangular city site. The unearthed relics mainly include various architectural components such as tubular tiles and dragon-phoenix ridge decorations made of gray clay pottery. Among the white-glazed porcelain, 15 pieces of bowls and plates with the inscription "Shangshiju" (Imperial Food Bureau) have been found, further proving the royal nature of the Taizicheng Ruins. From the analysis of the unearthed relics, the Taizicheng Ruins date back to the mid-to-late Jin Dynasty. According to relevant historical records and the excavation results of the Taizicheng Ruins, Taizicheng might be the Taihe Palace where Emperor Zhangzong of Jin resided during the summer, as recorded in the History of Jin.
The site has been turned into a park with flowers and plants planted everywhere. The museum on-site displays unearthed relics and provides textual and pictorial introductions.
Chongguang Tower (National Heritage 7): Located in Longguan Town, Chicheng County, it is a national key cultural relic protection unit of the seventh batch, from the Ming Dynasty, classified as ancient architecture.
Chongguang Tower is located at the site of the Huayan Temple from the Tang Dynasty. It was rebuilt and renamed Pujisi Temple in the 14th year of the Zhengtong era of the Ming Dynasty (1449). After the famous general Yang Hong recaptured the northern territories during the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty, the tower was renovated and renamed Chongguang Tower, meaning "restoration of light".
Chongguang Tower is an octagonal, five-story pavilion-style brick tower, with a total height of 33.67 meters and covering an area of 126 square meters. The base is made of six layers of strip stones, with two arched doors on each level and blind windows as decorations. The fourth and fifth floors each have 26 lookout holes, and the eaves are decorated with imitation wooden brackets. The tower's finial is an iron-covered stupa. Inside the tower, there is a brick staircase that allows one to climb to the top floor. This tower is the only military ancient tower outside the Great Wall.
Chongguang Tower is located in a small alley. Walking out of the alley and heading east for about 200 meters along the main road, you can also see two beautiful and simple stone lions.

National Heritage Check-in: Xia Bali Tomb Group (National Level 4), Former Site of Chahar Democratic Government (National Level 7)
Xia Bali Tomb Group (National Level 4): Located in the northeast of Xia Bali Village, Hezi Township, Xuanhua, it is a fourth batch of national key cultural relics protection units, from the Liao Dynasty, classified as ancient tombs.
The Xia Bali Zhang Family Tomb is a group of Han mural tombs from the later period of the Liao Dynasty. The owner of Tomb No. 1, Zhang Shiqing, was awarded by the court for his relief efforts for disaster victims. The underground tomb consists of two brick chambers, front and back. The front chamber depicts scenes of horse preparation and entertainment, while the back chamber includes murals of tea preparation, scripture preparation, banquet preparation, and astronomical diagrams. Many door-opening scenes are particularly interesting. Tomb No. 10, the tomb of Zhang Kuangzheng, has not been disturbed by theft and is better preserved. The murals of the Liao tombs in Xuanhua represent the highest level of contemporary folk tomb murals. Copies of the murals can be seen in the National Museum and Zhangjiakou Museum.
On-site, you can only see a few backfilled ancient tombs and scattered stone carvings; the underground palace is not open to the public. You can appreciate the Liao Dynasty murals in the museum.
————————
Former Site of Chahar Democratic Government (National Level 7): Located at No. 64, Xuanfu Street, it is a seventh batch of national key cultural relics protection units, from the Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China, classified as important modern historical sites and representative buildings.
The former site of the Chahar Democratic Government was originally the Joseph Seminary affiliated with the Xuanhua Catholic Church. The seminary was first built in the 30th year of the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty (1904) and expanded in 1930. The entire building complex is a group of three-entry courtyards with 16 individual buildings, currently preserving 120 rooms. The doors, windows, and columns are decorated with typical European architectural styles. In 1945, the Chahar Democratic Government, the first administrative provincial people's democratic government established under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, was founded here.
The site is now converted into the Xuanhua Museum, open from Tuesday to Sunday. Although small in size, it systematically introduces and displays the history of Xuanhua, and also has a restoration display of the Liao tombs. It's worth a visit to walk around and take a look.

Chongli | A Different Taiwu Town on a Rainy Day
| A Different Taiwu Town on a Rainy Day. Recently, I visited Taiwu Town and it turned out to be a rainy day 🌧️
I thought this trip was ruined, but do you know what?
Taiwu Town on a rainy day has its own unique charm!
Raindrops falling on the small European-style houses are incredibly beautiful.
Walking on the cobblestone streets with a small umbrella, every step makes a 'tick-tock' sound, and it lifts your spirits.
The cable car to the mountain top doesn't stop running in light rain.
No queues, you can buy tickets and go straight up.
💰 Ticket price: 100r, round trip included.
The weather alternates between cloudy and sunny, and the distant sea of clouds is very beautiful. You can see the clouds quickly drifting past in front of you.
Moreover, the key point! There are fewer people on rainy days, so you don't have to avoid crowds when taking photos.
You don't need to queue at the popular photo spots.
You can take photos when the weather clears up briefly.
There are many small animals behind the cable car ticket office, and the sika deer are particularly well-behaved. They will cooperate very well when they see people taking photos.
It's very suitable for families and couples to come and play.

✅Stroll around Taiwoo Town, which feels like being in a European town in Switzerland, making it a perfect place for photos.
✅At the foot of the mountain, the cosmos flowers are in full bloom, extremely fresh and beautiful, and there are some small animals for close contact.
✅Strongly recommend taking the cable car up the mountain, and checking in at the "Big Headphones" and "THAIWOO" sign spots halfway up.

「🔖Practical Tips」
1⃣️Even in summer, be sure to bring a jacket, as it is windy on the mountain and the temperature difference between morning and evening is large.
2⃣️Dining places are all located on the town street, with average cost performance, so no recommendations here.
3⃣️Be sure to do a good job of sun protection, although the temperature is not high, the ultraviolet rays are strong when the weather is sunny.

Shenjing Pinghan, Important Town of Nine Borders|Zhangjiakou Xuanhua Ancient City, Hebei
【Xuanhua Ancient City·Shenjing Pinghan, Important Town of Nine Borders】Arrive in the Ming and Qing town—Zhangjiakou Xuanhua in the afternoon. The three towers of Xuanhua are representative of the ancient city, located on the central axis, from south to north they are Gongji Tower, Zhenshuo Tower, and Qingyuan Tower. Among them, Qingyuan Tower has the highest aesthetic value, with pavilions extending from the north and south sides, and flying eaves on all four sides, as if ready to dance gracefully and take off at any moment. There is also a Gothic church in the ancient city, which stands out under the blue sky and white clouds. The small Xuanhua Museum also has treasures, such as a bronze kettle with a handle from the Warring States period (with wine still inside), colorful murals from the Liao tomb in Xiabali, and yellow-glazed porcelain, all of which are top-notch. The mountains are silent, the river is desolate, and the border town is distant, with a vast sky and earth in sight!
📝Note tips:
The ancient city can be entered for free, but tickets are required to climb the towers🎫, 10 yuan.
The Xuanhua Museum is very small and free to visit.

Walking and hiking in this 'Swiss' town in the suburbs of Beijing, the class flavor has faded
So close, so beautiful, head to Hebei for the weekend. It takes just over two hours to drive from Beijing.
The sea of flowers in Taiwu Town has fully bloomed, accompanied by the azure sky and patches of clouds, making it look like a fairy tale. A brief escape from the 35-36 degrees Celsius in Beijing.
Spend the weekend in Chongli to experience a cool summer. The beautiful scenery requires no filters. Feel the cool breeze at the top of the mountain, and all your worries will be deeply healed at this moment.
Traveling in the suburbs of Beijing, the chances of stepping into a pit are still relatively high. But Chongli Taiwu Town is truly what you see is what you get, and the photos have not been filtered at all!
For mountain lovers who are called by the distant mountains, hurry up! And you don't even have to climb the mountain yourself, the cable car goes straight up! Of course, you can also climb if you want! Sitting at the top of the mountain, watching the mountains all day, listening to the wind all day, I am willing! And the photos are really, really, really stunning! No matter how you take them, they look good!
It is said that the top of the mountain is 19 degrees Celsius, very cool. I am relatively afraid of the cold, wearing an ordinary denim jacket is comfortable. But the wind is really strong, and the ultraviolet rays are really strong, so if you are afraid of getting sunburned, be sure to do a good job of sun protection! An umbrella can be blown over in minutes.
But if you don't like mountains and the outdoors, the experience might be average. The town itself is really small, really small, you can probably walk around it in about ten minutes, and there are no interesting shops, and the food is just so-so. But you can take a walk along the town's roads. What could be more romantic than walking hand in hand with your loved one on the town's road at dusk?
We stayed for two days and one night, spending one night in the town, very pleasant. Because I am a person who likes slow-paced vacations, I think it's okay. If you are someone who likes a more intense experience, one day is enough.
Get up early in the morning, Qinghe to Taizicheng, in the evening, Taizicheng to Qinghe. This will be more tiring and lose the experience of staying overnight. I still quite like the feeling of staying overnight outside, it feels like you can completely escape the usual working space and be a free person for once. Taiwu Ski Town.
In short, if you like mountains and taking photos, you can go. If you want a richer experience, you might be slightly disappointed. I personally give it five stars, and I want to go again in winter!

Zhangjiakou Fort Scenic Area

【Chongli】Summer Resort 5
As the place where the Winter Olympics were held, the construction is incredibly beautiful. Every corner exudes a sense of meticulous design and exquisite layout.
Taiwu Town is famous, and it becomes even more magical at night.
When coming to Chongli, the first choice is to stay in Taiwu Town or the nearby Prince Ski Town. It is not recommended to stay in Chongli County. On one hand, it is more than 20 kilometers away. The hotels there are relatively cheaper, but the surrounding scenery and environment are somewhat lacking.
It lacks the pure leisure vacation feeling here.
The streets here have a bit of a Japanese feel, but they are cleaner, tidier, and more stylish than in Japan.
This time, I stayed at the Genting World Hotel. I was shocked at first sight. A large row, like a castle. The hotel has a high cost-performance ratio.
The hotel is located in Prince Ski Town, and you can see the ski slopes everywhere. It truly lives up to its name as a ski town.
Compared to 【Taiwu Town】, 【Prince Ski Town】 is not as lively, but it offers a more tranquil vacation experience.
Chongli is not just cool, but cold, especially early in the morning when it is only a little over ten degrees. It gets warm at noon, and you can bask in the sun, which is very comfortable.
Only 200 kilometers away from Beijing, the climate is so vastly different.
Chongli is a well-deserved summer resort in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.

A day trip to Xuanhua is enough to experience its feng shui and local customs
On the weekend, we took the high-speed train to Xuanhua North Station. Our first stop was the Lotus Grape Town. It is said that Xuanhua's famous specialty is milk grapes, which have thin skin and are very juicy. Eating a bunch is truly unforgettable!!
The second stop was Xuanhua Ancient City, where we took a 🚍. You can go up to Qingyuan Tower for free!! The scenery is amazing, and you can overlook the entire South Street from here. The people in the small town are walking and stopping, with the sound of hawking.
At noon, we went to Chaoyang Tower for lunch. It is said that it used to cook exclusively for Empress Dowager Cixi. The snacks inside are not only affordable but also very delicious!! Highly recommended ★★★★★
In the afternoon, after lunch, we followed this street to visit the Xuanhua Museum. You can visit for free with an ID card. It records the history of Xuanhua in detail from ancient times to the present. It is very meaningful to visit. After the museum, we also saw the Xuanhua Nine-Dragon Wall and the Catholic Church. Taking photos here is very photogenic!!! Girls who love taking photos should not miss it!
After the visit, we went to South Street to buy a cup of milk tea, then went to Xuanhua People's Park to sit and enjoy the breeze, look at the scenery, and listen to the laughter and joy. It is very healing for the soul!! In the evening, you can visit the night market, where there are many stalls, snacks, and knitted products.
After strolling around, we went to eat grilled fish!! It was really delicious! You can choose a double-flavored option. I forgot the exact place 😣, but it's on the street coming out of Chaoyang Tower. You can look around 👀
After dinner, we strolled through the bustling area, then took a taxi to the high-speed train station to go home.

The renowned 'Martial City' of the northern frontier, the once flourishing 'Commercial Port' Zhangjiakou Fort
Zhangjiakou Fort, also known as Baozili, was first built in the fourth year of the Xuande period of the Ming Dynasty (1429). Initially a military fort due to its strategic location, it was thus honored as the 'Martial City' of the northern frontier. Later, due to the border-opening policy, it became a place for Mongolian-Han mutual markets and an important node on the Zhangku Trade Route, renowned as a northern land commercial port due to its significant role as a trade distribution center.
The buildings inside the fort are mainly courtyard houses, with more than 700 cultural relics and historical sites still existing, including 93 key courtyards, earning it the title of 'Museum of Ming and Qing Architecture.' The Wenchang Pavilion, located at the center of the fort, was built in the forty-sixth year of the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty (1618). The entire structure is divided into two parts: the upper part is a pavilion temple, and the lower part is a cross-arched passage made of brick and stone, connecting the four main streets in the east, west, south, and north, hence it is also known as the 'Four-Gate Passage.' The four gates of the Wenchang Pavilion each have a name: the south gate is called 'Wenchang Pavilion,' the north gate 'Bell Tower,' the east gate 'Drum Tower,' and the west gate 'Mountain Tower.' The center of the dome is inlaid with a stone slab of the Taoist Bagua diagram, carved with the ancient Chinese Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches, and the stone slab is surrounded by inverted lotus flower thrones, subtly implying Buddhist culture.
In addition to the Wenchang Pavilion, the fort also houses many other historical sites such as the Luncai Academy and the General Ding's Mansion. Today, it has become a popular place to explore the 'origin' and 'roots' of Zhangjiakou.
