I do recommend this hotel because I love since welcome drink with luggage storage before checking in. The hotel provided me with nice Sushi restaurants around. In the evening, Alcohol buffet was served with unlimited drinks at hotel with nice atmosphere. I also love Onsen and swimming pool on the top! My first time here with full impressive moment here.
Great location with convenient transportation. The hotel is only 5 minutes from the station, making it easy to catch the bus to the hot spring town. It's also convenient for watching the sunrise by the sea. Plus, there are plenty of dinner options near Beppu Station.
The entire hotel has a Japanese-style design, and you have to take off your shoes and store them in the lobby upon entering. The hot spring is on the top floor and features 7 family baths, available on a first-come, first-served basis. I'd heard good things about the dinner at the downstairs restaurant, but by the time we checked in, it was already fully booked for the night and they only serve guests with reservations. So, if you plan to dine there, make sure to book in advance! We drove here, but it seems very convenient if you take the JR, as the hotel is only about 100 meters from Beppu Station.
This was the first time my friends and I visited Beppu, and out of all the places I've stayed in Japan, this accommodation was by far the best for our group of four.
It features an open-air onsen on the rooftop and a comfortable lounge on the first floor. Right in front of the hotel, there's a beach perfect for morning strolls. What truly surprised me was finding a Don Quijote Beppu store right next door! Its proximity to the bus terminal (a 10-minute walk) made it incredibly convenient for a day trip to Yufuin. There's a Seven-Eleven nearby, a Lawson near the terminal, and even a local supermarket on the basement floor of the Lawson building, making it easy to grab bento boxes. Plus, there are plenty of restaurants in the vicinity, making it a very accessible location.
Having staff who could speak Korean was especially helpful for getting information.
But what we were most grateful for was an incident with the onsen. We were about to use it, but someone had tampered with the temperature settings after a staff member had set it, making the water incredibly hot and almost unusable. Late at night, a Korean-speaking staff member and the manager endured the scorching water to fix the issue for us, allowing us to fully relax and enjoy our last night. If you're reading this review, thank you so much, truly!
a bit of walk from the train station as you can find places that are nearer if you are carrying more suitcases. i dont mind the walk as you pass by a lot of nice restaurants. can walk along the commercial street under shade even though hot summer day it is still quite sweaty. there seems to be a nice restaurant on the second floor but didnt get a chance to try. right near art museum and auditorium. quite city center.

I had a great time at Kannawaen with my family recently!
We booked 2 rooms at Superior Japanese Western Room With Open Air Bath, with breakfast option.
Parking was easy and spacious, everyone at the hotel was very kind and professional, room was very nice, clean, warm with nice views. I don't have much complaints except for check-out was done through a machinery method and the hotel only had one machine at the check-out area.
FYI they also had employees who could speak English, which was great for forigners!
Sekiya Resort is a masterclass in details. A gem for any archirecture enthusiasts- brutalist architecture is softened by thoughtful artistic touches, like the sculptures found at every lift landing. Upon arrival, the reception greets you with soaring glass walls that frame the entirety of Beppu below. My stay was made even more special by a high-floor corner room—the sea and city views were simply magnificent. There is nothing quite like the luxury of a private in-room onsen where you can soak and take in the sprawling city vistas in total serenity. Shuttle bus service is avaliable with advance reservation. The dinner and breakfast were an absolute delight. Good quality, well thought out menu deserves a special mention here. Highly recommended.
The hotel is right next to Beppu Tower, and Beppu Station is also very close. It looks really nice at night. There are two supermarkets nearby, which is convenient for buying food, and it's also easy to get to several hot springs. I'm writing this review a long time after my stay, so I've forgotten if there was a hot spring in the hotel itself.
Had a clean and efficient service experience. Don’t miss the chance to visit the onsen during sunrise and sunset—the simply breathtaking scenery enhances my relaxation.
Although the layout of the room is rather inconvenient, it's generally clean but a little aged.
Best recommend to take the seaview for sunrise or sunset from your bathroom .
This hotel definitely exceeded my expectations! The room was four times larger than ones I've booked in other cities, and there's a hot spring upstairs available for a small bathing tax. The hotel breakfast was also excellent, with some items pre-plated and a buffet selection next to it. Overall, it's a very thoughtful hotel, and I've already recommended it to my friends.

AAnonymous UserThe room and the Onsen were EXACTLY like those in the listing and were absolutely stunning! The breakfast was delicious and the range more than adequate. The location is good if you drive but is about 1km walk to Beppu Tower and a bit more from the night street. But I’d happily trade that for the spacious room and the wonderful sea and sunrise view.

MM231559****This Hoshino Kai hotel meets the usual high standards of the chain, and its direct ocean view is a big plus. The food, however, was just okay—nothing special compared to other Kaiseki meals I've had elsewhere. My mom even said she wasn't full. The small ice cream was delicious though! The staff's English was pretty good, and they were very enthusiastic when communicating.
EEinfachDillonThe hostel was very nice and had a cozy charm to it. I also met some very nice people there. There is an Onsen in the hostel, and you can get a satisfying breakfast for around 800 Yen. The owner was very kind and offers evening walks (which I highly recommend) and a ride to the station in the morning. The only downside is that it's an around 30 minutes walk uphill from Floral Village, but the view from there is worth it.
All in all I highly recommend it!
HhswwThis hotel is conveniently located just a 5-minute walk from JR Oita Station, to the left after exiting. It's also very close to Beppu. The bathroom features a separate wet and dry area, and the bedding is comfortable. The women's public bath has both indoor and outdoor pools. The complimentary ramen and ice cream in the evening are a thoughtful touch, and there's also water and snacks in the fridge.
GGuest UserMy stay at Grand Mercure Beppu Bay Resort & Spa was truly wonderful. The rooms were spacious, clean, and beautifully designed, offering stunning views of Beppu Bay. The staff were warm, welcoming, and always ready to assist, making the experience feel personal and relaxing. The hot springs and spa facilities were exceptional, perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring. The breakfast buffet offered a great variety of local and international dishes, all fresh and delicious. Overall, it’s an excellent resort for both leisure and comfort — I would definitely stay here again!

AAnonymous Usergood value for money! would definitely stay again
location: it's relatively further from the station , around a 8-10min walk. there is a 7-11 just around the corner
room: my room came without a bathroom but for the ladies are 3 cubicles shared among the 7 mix gendered guests on the floor. i did not have to wait in line at all. there was more than enough space in the room to open my suitcase wide and still feel comfortable. bed and pillow was a bit hard though, and you can hear anyone talking loudly downstairs outside the building as the room is on 2nd floor, tho that doesnt happen very often.
food: amazing balanced breakfast that changes everyday - really delicious!
onsen: the one on 2F was smaller than 1F, but very good and comfortable. clean too. you can book a private onsen room for 500yen (50mins)
staff: all of them were super friendly, helpful and made me feel welcome. there are english-proficient staff available 24H as well :)
GGuest UserWe checked in on 15 Jan, 2026 and planned to stay at the hotel for a nite. When we arrived the railway station , we walked around for a while and got a taxi outside the railway station to the hotel without paying the fare. Probably the hotel had arranged with the taxi drivers in that area that they will pay the fare directly. The check-in procedure is easy and comfy. 2 staff lead us to our room 小樓球。It’s a very nice room with 2 private onsen. The spring water is nice and made our skin very smooth. The hotel had arranged enough drinks for us, 3 alcoholic and 3 nonalcoholic. We had our dinner at ard 7pm. The presentation of the good is very good & eye catching. However, the quality of the sashimi was not very fresh. Taste of the tuna was a bit fishy and it’s wet and found bloody water after picked it up from the dish😓. I don’t eat beef and the hotel changed the 5 pcs of wagu to 3pcs of eel which didn’t taste very well. Not sure whether they grill it or not. Also they changed the beef that served with rice to miso and I didn’t think it’s fair enough. The breakfast on the next morning was up to standard. Bread was fresh and hot. Egg and sausage were quite good. Overall, service is good but the standard of dinner made me disappointed as I had informed the hotel at least one week before check-in and I think they have ample of time to adjust the menu for me.
I’ve been to some other hotspring hotels with same request of not eating beef. They had changed my menu to chicken, pork or seafood like fish or shrimp and provide the equivalent size of meat for replacement.
