Baili Azalea Scenic Area

7.2
4.3/5
3.1k reviews
The Baili Azalea Scenic Area is located in the central part of Bijie City, Guizhou, at the border of Dafang and Qianxi. It is a natural wild azalea forest belt, named for its hundred-mile stretch of blooming flowers. Around mid-March each year, azaleas of various colors bloom sequentially from low to high altitudes, with the flowering period typically lasting until late April. The exact dates vary depending on the year's temperature. The peak bloom period is relatively short, so to catch the spectacular sight of flowers covering the mountains, it's best to monitor the bloom status and plan your visit accordingly. The wild azaleas in the forest include dozens of species such as rhododendron delavayi, rhododendron irroratum, and rhododendron anthosphaerum. When in bloom, the red flowers resemble flames, the pink ones resemble rosy clouds, and shades of purple and white intermingle. A unique feature is "different flowers on the same tree"—a single tree can produce blooms of varying shades. This phenomenon is commonly seen in the Pudi and Jinpo scenic areas, as well as the Huangping "Ten-Mile Azalea" zone. The "Azalea King," a thousand-year-old tree with tens of thousands of blossoms, is a must-see for many travelers. The Jinpo area, at a lower altitude, blooms slightly earlier, while Pudi blooms a bit later. If time permits, visiting both areas ensures you don't miss the full spectacle. The region is also home to the Yi and Miao ethnic groups, and the flower season often coincides with traditional festivals like the Yi Flower-Inserting Festival and the Miao Flower-Dancing Festival. The vibrant ethnic costumes and dances complement the floral landscape beautifully. The scenic area is distributed in a belt-like pattern, with some distance between sections, so planning your route in advance is advisable. Even if you miss the blooming season, the Baili Azalea Scenic Area remains pleasantly cool in summer, with its forests, grasslands, and river valleys offering a refreshing retreat.Dafang · 31km from downtown

Jiudongtian is located on the Liuzhong River at the junction of Dafang and Nayong counties. It is a national key scenic spot with a total length of about 6 kilometers and is divided into two sections. The underground river in the cave expands to form many lakes in the cave, and the water flow is stable. "Yidongtian" is a dry cave, which is spacious inside and is the entrance hall. It covers an area of more than 3,000 square meters and has an average height of 80 meters. The stalactites on the cave walls and ceilings are bizarre and magnificent. The "Second Cavern" is now used as a power generation cavern, which uses gates to control the water flow from a height of 11 meters to generate electricity. It is a rare natural cave power station without a plant in China, and is extremely economical. The "Three Caves" are tall, wide, winding and quiet. The stone wall on the left bank is extremely smooth, as if it was cut by a knife or an axe, and colorful stalactites are hanging on the wall on the right bank. "Four Caves" is a natural Attraction composed of multiple caves. The stalactites in the caves are like towers or palaces, crystal clear and lifelike. "Wudongtian" is a dark lake in the shape of a gourd, which is naturally formed by contracting at the top and expanding at the bottom. The "Six Caves" are connected natural bridge windows, the top of which is about 100 meters above the horizontal plane and is very dangerous. "Qidongtian" is a large dry cave with thousands of windows and holes, which are interconnected and can accommodate thousands of people. The entrance of the "Eight Caves" is only two or three meters wide, but tens of meters high, like a narrow alley in a tall building. The sunlight refracts into it, and the light and color of the water surface change endlessly. The caves in the "Nine Caves" are divided into three layers. The strange-shaped water caves and dark lakes in the lower layer are connected to the Eight Caves, and are connected in all directions. In the middle layer, there is a huge natural bridge 90 meters long and 120 meters wide, which is shaped like a "gate". Looking down at the water cave from the square under the bridge, it is mysterious. Looking up, the sky is drawn as two huge arcs, like the magpie bridge when the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl meet. The upper layer is a cave hall parallel to the natural bridge arch, with an area of about tens of thousands of square meters. Countless cave entrances are connected to each other, forming a three-dimensional maze, which is rare in the world.Dafang · 34.5km from downtown

The Asilisi Prairie is located at the junction of Xingfa Township, Weishe Township and Guda Township in Hezhang County, Guizhou Province. The prairie has a total area of more than 40 square kilometers, with an average altitude of more than 2,400 meters. It stretches for dozens of miles and covers an area of one million acres. It is magnificent, with gentle slopes, lush grass, and wild flowers everywhere. It is like a place full of golden flowers. The main Attraction of Asilisi Grassland include Ertaipo Grassland, Wanfenglin, Heitang Charm, Yingshui Village Dazhai Landscape Painting, Shibanhe Creek Waterfall Group and other landscapes. Ertaipo, one of the core Attraction of the grassland, means the slope on the slope in the local area; here, the mountains are winding, the peaks are overlapping, the skylarks are flying, the cattle and sheep are in groups, and the pastoral songs are bursts. The overall style is similar to the grassland landscape in northern China. Here, the unique herds of cattle and sheep rolling in the wind, the graceful green trees and bamboos, and the gurgling clear mountain springs on the grassland add to its smart beauty; here, the blue sky and the earth, the Cangshan and the ginger grass, the hardness and the gentleness, the hands of nature and the magical creation, draw a magical and perfect picture, stretching out a magnificent and colorful painting of Wumeng.Hezhang · 18.3km from downtown

1. Jinxiu Jiangshan Square Jinxiu Jiangshan Square is a square where you can visit and rest. There are reliefs on both sides of the square. The right side of the square shows the scene of the Red Army coming to Bijie and the children of Bijie joining the Red Army. The left side shows the scene of the military and civilians being one family, the military and civilians being close, and the military and civilians supporting the army. The stone slab of the musical fountain in the middle of the relief quotes the famous sentence from "Qinyuanchun. Snow". 2. The Rooster Singing Viewing Platform The Rooster Singing is the commanding height for viewing the canyon scenery. It is located on the cliff bank of the Eagle Rock in the Attraction. The design adopts the shape of a rooster. The function integrates commercial services, canyon viewing experience, and tourist distribution. The chicken body stands on the cliff bank, and the cock's crown hangs above the canyon. The cock's crown is made of transparent glass. You can not only see the scenery of Sichuan and Yunnan, but also enjoy the beauty of the Chishui River from a high place, naturally forming a 360° panoramic mode. Standing on it, you can have a panoramic view of the scenery of the three provinces of Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan, and experience the magic of "stepping on three provinces in one step" in the air. 3. Jiming Sansheng Monument The four characters Jiming Sansheng on the monument were written by General Xiao Ke, the commander of the Red 26th Army Corps, who passed through Bijie in 1995. The base of the monument is 19 meters long and wide, and 35.25 meters high, representing the date of the Jiming Sansheng Conference on February 5, 1935. The monument faces southeast and northwest, representing the journey of the Red Army's Long March from Ruijin in southeast China to Huining in the northwest. The main body of the monument is composed of three fluttering flags. The top of the monument is a dazzling five-pointed star, which means that the Red Army's Long March was victorious.Bijie · 46.1km from downtown

It's absolutely spectacular. It takes over an hour to walk through; it's quite dark inside, with ups and downs. Elderly people with mobility issues or poor eyesight should be cautious, as should those with claustrophobia. Of course, people with high blood pressure or heart conditions should also be careful. You should see it at least once in your life; the stalactites are of various shapes and are breathtakingly beautiful – definitely worth seeing.

I rushed towards Baili Rhododendron with great excitement, thinking I had stumbled into a fairyland, but reality was like a burst bubble. I guess only aerial photography can capture that feeling, lacking the filters and meticulous editing of traditional film.

For families with children visiting Zhijin, the 5A-rated Zhijin Cave is highly recommended. It's a natural water-eroded cave with a temperature around 10 degrees Celsius! The stalactites and stalagmites inside are incredibly diverse and will spark your imagination! The various gorge entrances and boat rides within the cave are unique features. It will leave you in awe of nature's artistry! Arriving at the scenic area at 9 am meant there were no parking spaces left, so we opted for the 10 yuan parking lot at the Grand Canyon exit. From the exit, we took a 108-meter-high ladder down, followed by a relatively easy walk down the mountain path. Along the way, we saw natural bridges, waterfalls, and Buddha statues – a truly breathtaking experience. We entered the "Ten Thousand Swallows Returning to Their Nest" area, took a 10 yuan boat ride to the other side, and then took a sightseeing bus back to the entrance. A free shuttle bus from the entrance took us to the visitor center. After getting off, we transferred back to our car at the exit for lunch. At 1 pm, we took another shuttle bus to Zhijin Cave, taking photos with the various stalactites and stalagmites along the way. The visit took about two hours. Overall, the pace was from easy to difficult, making it a manageable trip for children! (^в^)

The scenery is beautiful; the highlight is the boat ride inside the cave. I recommend entering from the west and exiting from the west. Parking is convenient at the west gate. First, take a 3-minute sightseeing bus, then walk for about 10 minutes, then take another 5-minute sightseeing bus to the Natural Bridge to board the boat. If you have a one-way ticket, make sure to climb the stairs on your right when you reach the boarding area; the rest of the way is downhill, which is more convenient for the elderly and children. Finally, take the boat back from the east gate to the west gate. If you take the boat to the east gate first and then walk back to the west gate, it's all uphill stairs and will be very physically demanding!

The vast grasslands were a welcome sight, thankfully we had a car. In such a wide expanse, besides horseback riding, there wasn't much else to do. The temperature difference between day and night was significant, ranging from 16 degrees Celsius at night to 26 degrees Celsius during the day. If you have the necessary gear, spending a few days there to relax and unwind is truly wonderful. Highly recommended for those who enjoy solitude.

For the National Day holiday, the number of visitors was manageable, and we even caught the last glimpse of wild chive blossoms. Parking was free, making it a truly conscientious tourist destination. The weather on the mountain was unpredictable; thankfully, heavy fog rolled in just before we finished visiting the core area, allowing us to quickly head back. Traveling with my 74-year-old mother, we opted for the cable car up and the sightseeing bus down – a perfect combination!

Caohai is located in Weining Yi, Hui and Miao Autonomous County, Bijie City, Guizhou Province. It is one of the three largest plateau lakes in China and the largest natural freshwater lake in Guizhou. The following is a brief information about Caohai: Ecological Value Caohai is an important wintering place for many rare birds such as black-necked cranes, attracting about 100,000 migratory birds every year. It has rich biological resources, including more than 2,000 biological species, and is known as the "species gene bank".

The Wujiang River Source Hundred-Mile Gallery is truly a stunning natural wonder! A boat trip along the emerald green river, flanked by towering peaks and rugged mountains, feels like stepping into a flowing landscape painting. The crystal-clear water reflects the blue sky, white clouds, and layered karst landforms, making every snapshot a masterpiece. Along the way, you'll see Miao villages and cliffside walkways, adding a touch of cultural charm and adventure. The boat trip is at a moderate pace, lasting approximately 2-3 hours, so you won't feel tired. It's recommended to go on a sunny day when the sunlight sparkles on the river, creating a more breathtaking visual experience. The scenic area's services are quite comprehensive, with clear dock signage and orderly boarding and disembarking. The only minor drawback is that the surrounding facilities are still under development, and there aren't many dining options. It's advisable to bring your own snacks and water. Overall, this is an excellent place to escape the crowds and experience the tranquil beauty of nature, well worth a visit! Highly recommended for those who enjoy natural scenery and photography.

After the Red Army crossed the Chishui River four times during the Long March, the leaders stood at the crossroads of three provinces, surveying the landscape! They held a meeting and decided on the subsequent route of the Long March! We received a profound education from this experience! This scenic spot is a place we've always wanted to visit! I highly recommend it!!!
