Fanjing Mountain

Fanjing Mountain is located in Tongren, northeastern Guizhou province, with an elevation of 2,572 m. As the highest peak of the Wuling Mountains, it is a member of the UNESCO "Man and Biosphere" program, a World Natural Heritage site, and a national 5A-level tourist attraction. The Mount Fanjing Biosphere Reserve covers a total area of 428.63 km². The mountain is characterized by its pristine wilderness, majestic peaks, layered ridges, crisscrossing streams, and cascading waterfalls. Its iconic attractions include the Red Clouds Golden Summit, Yuejing Mountain, the 10,000-meter Sleeping Buddha, Mushroom Rock, the Ten Thousand Scrolls of Scriptures, Jiulong Pool, and Phoenix Mountain. Mount fanjing was originally named "three valleys", derived from "pure land of brahma". The buddhism here originated in the tang dynasty and flourished in the ming dynasty, making it a historic buddhist mountain. Additionally, mount fanjing boasts abundant wildlife resources, including rare species such as the guizhou golden monkey and dove tree. Mount Fanjing is the main peak of the Wuling mountain range, located at the junction of Jiangkou, Yinjiang, and Songtao counties. With its massive and majestic form reaching into the clouds, it was revered as the ancestor of famous mountains as early as the beginning of the Ming dynasty and is a renowned Buddhist sacred site. Additionally, Mount Fanjing boasts vast areas for viewing red leaves. Every fall, the layered forests are dyed in vibrant hues, with the red leaves complementing the mountain temples. Here, you can take a cable car to overlook the endless stretches of red foliage or stroll along the mountain paths, surrounded by fiery red leaves on both sides and above. The red cloud golden summit is the core of Foshan. The two temples standing majestically on the peak, with two buddhas presiding, create an infinite dharma realm. This masterpiece of the Southern Song Dynasty's White Lotus Society in constructing a "pure land on earth" is a miracle in the history of Buddhist development on famous mountains. Take the sightseeing bus from the attraction entrance to the cableway, then ride the cableway up and walk straight to the top to see the famous "mushroom stone." True to its name, it has a large top and a small base, resembling a mushroom, standing approx. 10 m tall and having been on the mountain for 1 billion years. To the left of the mountaintop is the red golden cloud summit, and to the right is the old golden summit, both incredibly spectacular.Jiangkou · 23.5km from downtown

Tongren Ancient City is located in the heart of Tongren, surrounded by water on the east, south, and west sides, with only the north side backed by mountains. Its strategic terrain makes it easy to defend but difficult to attack. Covering a total area of 37,000 square meters, the ancient residential buildings span 26,000 square meters, representing Tongren's original historical district that reflects the ancient city's charm and its unique ethnic cultural resource. As a well-preserved ancient city, Tongren Ancient City not only showcases rich historical relics and traditional architecture but also offers visitors an ideal place to explore local culture and enjoy leisure time. According to historical records, Tongren Ancient City was born from the convergence of two rivers. During the Yuan Dynasty, fishermen discovered three bronze statues representing Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism at the confluence of the rivers outside the city, which gave Tongren its name. Recent archaeological findings reveal that as early as 3,000 years ago, the banks of the Jinjiang River in Tongren were already densely populated and culturally vibrant. By the Ming and Qing dynasties, the city had become a bustling hub of commerce, with boats shuttling back and forth and merchant guilds flourishing, earning it the title "Eastern Guizhou's Commercial Hub." Construction of the earthen city walls began in 1451 during the Ming Dynasty, following the river's course. Over time, successive administrations reinforced the walls with stone, forming a layout of nine gates, three main streets, and six alleys. Remarkably well-preserved, Tongren Ancient City was designated a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit in 2006. The city retains its ancient streets, alleys, walls, water docks, wells, trees, and traditional courtyard houses, with rows of blue-brick buildings and black-tiled roofs standing as rare physical archives of urban development. Tongren Ancient City runs north-southZhongshan RoadThe main axis runs vertically, with buildings lining both sides of the road, interconnected by countless east-west alleys. Watchtowers, ancestral halls, residences, shops, lanes, city walls, and docks gradually unfold in sequence, boasting a large quantity and complete variety of structures. According to surveys, most buildings in Tongren Ancient City are 200–300 years old, where ethnic residential architecture, religious buildings, and commercial structures harmoniously blend. Here, the cultures of eastern Guizhou, central China, and Huizhou merchants converge, vividly reflecting the city's historical development. With the opening of the "Taoyuan Tongren·Ming-Qing Ancient City" cultural tourism festival in Tongren Ancient City, the area now radiates fresh vitality, offering exceptional sightseeing and experiential value. Visitors can immerse themselves in Tongren's local charm and cultural heritage while exploring its streets.Tongren · 2km from downtown

Tongren's Jiu Long Dong is located 13 km southeast of Bijiang District in Tongren City, Guizhou Province. Nestled against the majestic Liulong Mountain and facing the scenic Jinjiang River, it is one of Guizhou's first ten major attractions and a prime example of karst cave landscapes in Southwest China. The attraction centers around Jiu Long Dong, encompassing the Jinjiang River scenic belt, Liulong Mountain's natural ecological area, and the cultural landscape of Guanyin Mountain. Covering approximately 80,000 square meters, it combines stunning cave formations, picturesque mountain and river views, and historical relics into one remarkable destination. Jiu Long Dong has a long history of development as an attraction. It was listed as a county-level scenic reserve in 1981, promoted as one of Guizhou's top ten scenic spots in 1987, and included in the Dictionary of China's Famous Scenic Sites. In 2004, it was approved by the State Council as a national key scenic area, solidifying its important position in China's cave tourism. In recent years, the attraction has undergone closed upgrades, improved tourism infrastructure, added science education bases, and introduced smart guide systems, significantly enhancing the visitor experience. Jiu Long Dong is a large natural karst cave stretching 2,284 meters in length, divided into seven halls with four main halls and one celestial hall currently open to visitors. The cave features dense clusters of stone pillars, stalagmites, and stone curtains, forming over 40 classic views including "Two Monkeys Welcoming Guests," "Nine Dragons Embracing the Pillar," and "Inverted Lotus." Among them, the "World's First Pillar" stands impressively at 44.71 meters tall with a diameter of 16.4 meters. The cave also hides an underground river whose murmuring waters reflect off the stalactites, adding an extra layer of mystery. The outer area of the attraction features Liulong Mountain, renowned for its primeval forests and bamboo sea. The winding Jinjiang River, together with the cliffs of Guanyin Mountain and the canyon of Malongxi, forms a magnificent landscape integrating mountains, waters, and caves. Atop Guanyin Mountain stands the Lotus Temple, originally built during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Climbing to the summit rewards visitors with panoramic views of the Jinjiang River and the thrilling experience of the steep "A Strip of Sky" peak. Jiu Long Dong got its name from the folk legend "Nine Dragons Competing for the Cave": It is said that six yellow dragons from Liu Long Mountain and three green dragons from Jin River fought over the cave, eventually turning into stone pillars and creating the spectacular "Nine Dragons Coiling the Pillar" scene. The stream at the mountain's base was also named "Scolding Dragon Stream." Visitors can explore the karst cave along the cliffside walkway or participate in interactive programs at the science education base to learn about the formation of karst landscapes.Tongren · 14.2km from downtown

Yunshe Scenic Area

Yunshe Scenic Areais an ancient Tujia village nestled at the foot of Fanjing Mountain and along the banks of the Taiping River. Legend has it that the name "Yunshe" means "houses in the clouds, a place where immortals dwell." Over 90% of the villagers are Tujia people with the last name Yang, and they still preserve their traditional customs and vibrant daily life. Many tourists visit here after climbing Fanjing Mountain to take a stroll, enjoy a farmhouse meal, and experience the slow pace of life in a mountain village. Shenlong Pool is the village's signature view, also known as Yunshe Spring. It is formed by spring water gushing from an underground river outlet, and the pool water is deep blue and crystal clear. Locals have long used the rise and fall of the pool's water level to predict the weather: a rising water level often predicts rain, while a falling level often indicates clear skies. This phenomenon is generally explained by underground pressurized water changing with atmospheric pressure. There is also an old legend in the village that even a long rope tied to a stone cannot reach the bottom of the pool, adding a touch of mystery to the water. After gushing out, the spring water winds around the village and flows into the Taiping River after a short distance. Set against ancient waterwheels and boardwalks along the water, every snapshot looks like a painting. Most of the old houses in the village are Tujia courtyards known as "barrel houses," featuring brick-and-wood structures with high fire-blocking walls on all four sides. The courtyards are paved with bluestone slabs, the stone piers at the eaves are carved with reliefs, and openwork wood carvings are commonly seen on window lattices and railings. One of these houses has been renovated into a nostalgia museum, displaying Tujia clothing, food, and wedding customs. Yunshe was once a famous papermaking village, and the ancient papermaking techniques have been passed down to this day. In the workshops, you can see the traditional processes of paper making and drying, and the handmade paper is even crafted into creative products like desk lamps and notebooks. To enter the village, you first cross the Wind and Rain Bridge and then pass through a stone archway engraved with the village's name. Villagers dressed in Tujia attire often welcome guests with gate-blocking wine and folk songs, and you can often encounter Tujia song and dance performances like the Hand-Waving Dance and the Money Stick Dance. The stone-paved alleys in the village crisscross like a maze and are worth exploring at a leisurely pace.Jiangkou · 5.2km from downtown

The Red Cloud Golden Peak is located in the Fanjing Mountain Scenic Area. It is 94 meters high and steep, like a huge stone pillar rising from the ground. It faces the Moon Mirror Mountain from north to south, forming a confrontation between two peaks, and the scenery is extremely spectacular. The Golden Peak is surrounded by a deep ravine, and it looks like a jade bamboo shoot piercing the sky when viewed from a distance of a hundred miles. The top of the peak is often surrounded by clouds and mist. Under the sunshine, the clouds are brilliant and gorgeous, so it is called "Red Cloud Golden Peak", which is a homophonic sound of "Hongyun Golden Peak".Jiangkou · 27km from downtown

It was raining down the mountain 🌧️, but not up the mountain. However, it was shrouded in mist, making it difficult to see anything. These photos were taken in a few quick bursts. One downside was that you couldn't go directly to the parking lot from the exit to get your car. You had to walk around the shopping street and then walk back into the parking lot to retrieve it. It was already raining, and after walking around for 10 minutes, my shoes and socks were completely soaked.

I think it's worth going. Although there are many stairs, you can mostly walk on flat ground, and it's quite close to nature. I recommend taking a boat out of the Natural Bridge scenic area to avoid backtracking and reduce fatigue. I suggest heading downhill. In summer, you can also go rafting, which is great. A complete loop without backtracking takes about 2 hours. It's a one-way trip, and there are very few shops along the way, so I recommend bringing your own snacks.

Walking along the ravine in the scenic area, you can see incredibly clear emerald water. The valley is bursting with negative oxygen ions, and the temperature is very comfortable. In summer, it's advisable to bring a pair of shoes suitable for stream tracing; soaking your feet in the water would be a wonderful experience. Climbing up from the bottom of the ravine to see the sacred tree of Yamu involves over 700 steps, which is quite challenging, so be sure to conserve your energy. You can visit the Ming Dynasty Ancient Courtyard, and then take a bus back. The entire trip takes about 2 hours.

Arriving at the ancient town just in time for a summer shower, the scenery was extraordinary. While sheltering in the parking lot shed, a cloud of mist drifted in, bringing a sudden downpour. The surrounding scenery appeared and disappeared intermittently, and the vermilion statue in the scenic area glowed with a mysterious yellow light within the mist.

The cave is quite large; you can easily spend 3 hours exploring it at your leisure. It's truly spectacular and well worth a visit. Getting there and back by ride-hailing service is very convenient. The cave maintains a constant temperature of around 16 degrees Celsius, making it a great place to escape the heat on hot days.

A very beautiful place. However, I had an experience that I have to share. I fell down in there. In fact, exactly near the small river (my 1st picture). I was taking photos for my wife, and suddenly I was in the water. I sprained myself. The fruitseller was very helpful to help me back up and found my phone in the water. After I was up, my wife also almost slipped, and another person afterwards also almost slipped. The floor is just too much moist and slippery. I hope the management look into that area. So please be very careful. The place itself is amazing. I walked for almost an hour, and I love it. The simple life of the people, the surrounding mountains, the old buildings and the farms. All look peaceful and relaxing to walk around..I recommend a visit but just be careful when walking.

The attractions in my hometown are worth visiting. The Miao Palace is great. There are performances inside, the air is fresh, and it is convenient to eat. The transportation is convenient and parking is very convenient. It’s just that the publicity is not strong enough. Many foreign tourists probably don’t know about this attraction

Red Cloud Golden Summit is well worth a visit. It's a landmark of Fanjing Mountain, renowned for its unique beauty, unique beauty, and unique scenery, offering visitors a unique experience. Highlights include: A precipitous and breathtaking climbing experience: Red Cloud Golden Summit stands at 2,336 meters above sea level, with a vertical drop of 94 meters from the base to the summit. The climb requires climbing stone steps carved into the cliff face, using iron chains and using both hands and feet to navigate. The steepest part is nearly 90 degrees vertical, and the path is narrow, barely wide enough for one person. It's a truly challenging experience, allowing visitors to experience the feeling of "infinite scenery on the dangerous peak." Unique geological landscape: A magnificent work of nature, it's often surrounded by red clouds and auspicious auras in the mornings, hence its name. The Golden Summit is divided in half by the "Golden Knife Gorge," forming two isolated peaks connected by a sky bridge. From a distance, they resemble towering stone pillars, or even steamers, with their unique shapes, a marvel at the wonders of nature. Rich Cultural Heritage: On either side of the summit stand the Sakyamuni Hall and the Maitreya Hall, dedicated to Sakyamuni and Maitreya Buddhas, respectively. Behind each temple stands a "Preaching Platform" and a "Scripture Drying Platform." The seamless integration of religious architecture and natural landscape allows visitors to experience the rich Buddhist cultural atmosphere while enjoying the beautiful scenery. Exceptional Views: Climbing the summit offers a 360-degree panoramic view of the mountains, with rolling clouds and rolling peaks. The breathtaking scenery is as if you were transported to the heavens, refreshing your mind and providing a truly breathtaking visual experience.
