Reviews: Philae Temple and Aswan High-Dam Half-day tour
Guest User2025-12-27
Overall, this was a good visit that my wife and I had with our tour guide Omar. His knowledge of the Philae temple and its history is extensive for those who like and enjoy history as he had clearly done his homework. Did you know, for example that the temple has history involving not only the Egyptians but also the Romans, early Christians, and even French, and that it was submerged under water for decades? He was also knowledgeable about the high dam, including the unique history behind the first dam, the political ramifications when the high dam was added decades ago, and how it continues to shape Egypt’s history. Combining these two places of dam and temple is interesting as they are so very different sites. Omar was patient and waited on us when we wanted to see anything in particular, we got some good coffee and snacks. If there is any small critique, I would say two small things some might want to do differently. First is I think it might have been nice to walk to and see the friendship tower on top of the Aswan High Dam, but it technically wasn’t part of the tour. Second, towards the end you are taken to an oil and incense shop… while getting anything is optional and you are told to not feel pressured, the performance put on by the place is extensive, such that *if you’re a group of only two* as we were, you feel odd not getting anything (at least if you hail from a western background like me). They were nice enough though, and not pushy, and some would like the product… it’s just beyond what I was looking for such that I would prefer that part of the tour being optional. My wife did willingly wish to buy something here though and enjoyed, and pointed out that had Omar not taken her there she never would have visited it. Omar was not pushy, he had great English and a love for Aswan that was enjoyable to be around, was a good conversationalist, and I would definitely use him again for any tourism needs in Aswan.
Reviews: Abu Simbel temple in Aswan
Guest User2025-12-28
I thought it would be difficult to get from Aswan to Abu Simbel on my own, so I booked a tour. I was picked up at my hotel and taken to Abu Simbel. On the way back, they didn't take me back to the hotel (I was dropped off about a 10-minute walk from the hotel), but it was still a pretty good trip. The tour guide was a nice person, and he knew that a woman traveling alone from the hotel to the airport would be charged a high tourist price, so he took me to the airport for a reasonable price. This trip to Egypt made me realize how much better it is to ask the tour guide for help.
Reviews: Abusimble Day Tour from Aswan

It's a fairly long drive from Aswan to Abu Simbel. But it's a must-see site in Egypt. A French guide is available for some explanations outside of the temples. Afterward, it's a self-guided tour of the temples.
Reviews: Transfer from Aswan to Luxor

I would take this mode of transportation 10/10 times over a cruise or tour bus. Cruising doesn't allow you to go into the rural villages and through the intimate nature of Southern Egypt! It robs you of all of the fun parts of road trips, which is getting a peek into the lives of people who live in this cool country. You also get to go at your own pace, which is a huge advantage over mass tourist travel. The tour buses handle the rough roads muchhh worse than a car. They sit super high so you're bouncing all over and they can't maneuver through the crazy Egyptian roads and traffic. I am so grateful I never took a bus long distance in this country! We had a laugh at Edfu Temple when the bus passengers were having meltdowns about how rough the ride was. I don't know what kind of research they did before traveling, but clearly it wasn't enough. Do not skip the two optional stops to Kom Ombo and Edfu temples. They come up a lot in historcal reference to other big places in Luxor and Abu Simbel, so you'll regret missing a chance to see them. Additionally, these are way less frequented and we had Kom Ombo almost entirely to ourselves. Overall, it's a must do!
Reviews: Private Customizable Day Tour To Abu Simbel From Aswan By Private Car
Guest User2024-09-28
We had a great experience on the Abu Simbel tour and would highly recommend it to anyone who is seeking a Private tour + Guide to this amazing place. Samir who was our guide was extremely knowledgable to took the time to explain everything in great detail. As no tour guides were allowed inside the temples and it was extremely hot outside, Samir spent time on the drive there explaining everything, which allowed us to go straight to the sites and look at everything properly without having to stand outside in the sun. At no part of this tour did we ever feel rushed. Samir provided us with as much time as we wanted to explore the temples as much as we wanted. Ahmed who was our driver was also very professional and took care of us during out trip.
