Chengdu World Horticultural Expo Park

541 reviews
The World Horticultural Exposition is an international exposition recognized by the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH) in the Netherlands. The Expo is scheduled to be held from April 26 to October 28, 2024, with the theme of "Park City, Happy Chengdu". It adheres to the concepts of green and low-carbon, sustainable conservation, sharing and inclusiveness. In the construction of the site, the existing main vegetation will be retained as much as possible, and Chengdu's good plant growth conditions will be fully utilized. The native tree species will be mainly used, and the special plants such as medicinal herbs, fruits and vegetables, roses, crabapples, and crape myrtles will be displayed in combination with the characteristics of the exhibition garden to create a diverse plant community and plant landscape. From theme to planning and design, the Chengdu Expo has always adhered to the three principles of "green and low-carbon, conservation and sustainability, sharing and inclusiveness", which are in line with the construction concept of a park city. A "green, harmonious, and ecological" Expo. Green is the urban background of Chengdu that has been nurtured for thousands of years. We will take "production, ecology, and life" as the core concept, fully integrate the construction and subsequent operation of the Expo into the Jiangxi River area, and fully adopt green, environmentally friendly, recycling, and energy-saving technologies and low-carbon, natural, and ecological materials, emphasizing sustainable retention and lasting use. Integrate the Expo into the city's public space, build more parks and green spaces, and increase people's happiness index and sense of gain. A World Horticultural Exposition with "Chengdu's own characteristics". First, it integrates Chengdu's unique history and regional culture. This includes Chengdu's garden and horticultural culture, people's life culture, folk art, etc. The World Horticultural Exposition held here will be a feast that highlights Chengdu's culture and life attitude; second, it highlights the advantages of the park city in ecological environment construction. Chengdu has been an ecological flower city since ancient times. We will pay attention to people's life experience in the city, actively promote the construction of park cities, and show Residents an ecological scene of harmony between man and nature. Third, the planning layout and operation system of the World Horticultural Exposition highlight innovation. The site focuses on the protection and utilization of water, fields, forests, and residential resources with the characteristics of western Sichuan, so that the construction of the World Horticultural Exposition can achieve low consumption and sustainability. In terms of operation, multiple parties participate, integrate smart concepts, plan to form a diverse tour system, and innovatively use new technologies and new means to achieve resource aggregation and sharing.Jianyang · 22.7km from downtown

Chengdu Wuhou Shrine Museum

The Chengdu Wuhou Shrine Museum is a temple dedicated to honoring Shu Han heroes such as Liu Bei and Zhuge Liang. Its origins date back to 221 AD during the first year of the Zhangwu era under Emperor Zhaolie of Shu Han, when Liu Bei's Hui Ling Mausoleum was constructed. The Han Zhaolie Temple was also built during the same period. Approx. around 500 AD during the Northern and Southern Dynasties period, the Wuhou Shrine was relocated from Chengdu's "Shaocheng" to the vicinity of Hui Ling Mausoleum and Han Zhaolie Temple, maintaining this layout until the Ming Dynasty. In 1390 during the 23rd year of the Hongwu era, Zhu Chun, the Ming Prince of Shu, visited the Chengdu Wuhou Shrine Museum for worship. Citing that "monarch and subject should be united as one," he merged Hui Ling Mausoleum, Han Zhaolie Temple, and Wuhou Shrine into a single complex. As Zhuge Liang's influence among the common people surpassed that of Liu Bei, the site became colloquially known as "Wuhou Shrine." The cultural relics area of the Chengdu Wuhou Shrine Museum mainly consists of the Hui Ling Mausoleum, Han Zhaolie Temple, Wuhou Shrine, and the Chengdu Wuhou Shrine Museum - Sanyi Temple, with the main structure being the Wuhou Shrine. The shrine is divided into the main gate, second gate, Liu Bei Hall, passage hall, Chengdu Wuhou Shrine Museum - Zhuge Liang Hall, and Chengdu Wuhou Shrine Museum - Sanyi Temple, all aligned along a central axis from south to north. The shrine houses 50 statues of Shu Han heroes including Liu Bei and Zhuge Liang, along with numerous stone inscriptions and plaques related to Zhuge Liang and Three Kingdoms culture. The famous "red wall and bamboo shadows" of Chengdu are located within the attraction. Don't forget to take photos. The garden area of Chengdu Wuhou Shrine Museum, located on the west side of the shrine, features architectural structures such as the stone archway gate, three-arched gate, square pavilion, Jiexin Hall, and burial chamber. It is the only northern-style mausoleum complex in southwest China. The shrine is adjacent to Jinli Ancient Street (Jinli Folk Custom Area), making it convenient to visit both sites together.Chengdu · 54.5km from Jianyang

WenShuFang is an antique-style cultural block in Qingyang District, Chengdu, adjacent to Wenshu Monastery. Opened in 2006, the Wenshu Monastery area, where it is located, is one of Chengdu's three major historical and cultural conservation zones, alongside Kuanzhai Alley and Daci Temple. The block primarily features architecture in the traditional Sichuanese residential style, with teahouses, snack shops, intangible cultural heritage workshops, and Hanfu stores nestled among gray-tiled roofs, wooden doors, and courtyards. It is also a popular spot for locals to drink tea and chat. The main streets in the district each have their own distinctive features: Wuyuegong Street is dedicated to intangible cultural heritage, with workshops showcasing traditional crafts like Shu brocade, Shu embroidery, lacquerware, bamboo weaving, and silver filigree, where artisans can often be seen working on-site; Nanyue Lane is a hub for Hanfu culture, with a constant stream of people dressed in Hanfu taking photos against the backdrop of ancient-style gate towers and red walls, and the street also offers Hanfu rental and makeup services; Jinma Lane is the heart of old Chengdu flavors, where time-honored snacks like imperial walnut cakes and Zhang Liangfen from Dongzikou can be enjoyed from one end of the street to the other. When you need a break, you can stop at a teahouse for a bowl of covered-bowl tea. The district also hosts Sichuan opera performances, where you can enjoy face-changing, fire-spitting, and long-spout tea art while sipping tea, fully immersing yourself in Chengdu's unique blend of leisure and liveliness. When touring, you might as well combine this place with the nearby Wenshu Monastery into one route, visiting the ancient temple first and then exploring the alleys, which can be completed in half a day. Travelers planning to take Hanfu photos are advised to allocate more time for makeup, styling, and framing.Chengdu · 54km from Jianyang

I've been to Sancha Lake many times now, but I take the boat less often than before. Now, every time I go to Sancha Lake, I go to Taoyuanba's Special Fragrant Fish Restaurant to eat their signature fish, which is also located by the lake.

It was the day before the Expo closed, and I arrived late to give it a quick tour. The park is quite large, but because it closed the next day, pop-up restaurants like Haidilao had already been removed, so I didn't get to see them. The entire park is magnificently designed, and the weather was beautiful that day, with blue sky and white clouds against the backdrop, the scenery was quite photogenic. Since I had children with me, I could only take the sightseeing bus; walking was definitely not an option. There are no restaurants in the park, which is not very convenient, except for a simple Pizza Hut at the entrance. Chengdu style, Sichuan glory

[Scenery] Influenced by internet celebrities, I went to Danjingtai for the first time to climb the mountain. The artificial landscape is very creative and is also a check-in spot for internet celebrities. When you climb to the top of the mountain, you can see everything at a glance (as shown in the picture). [Fun] There are glass plank roads, sky cafes, children's playgrounds, etc. on the top of the mountain, all kinds of entertainment and satisfaction. [Cost-effectiveness] It is about 60 kilometers from Chengdu. The parking fee at the bottom of the mountain is 10 yuan. If you take a car to the mountain, each person will pay 10 yuan. It is suitable for all kinds of groups to play.

Close to Chengdu, quite exciting! 90% of the whole route is artificial slope, the water quality is average, the scenery is average, but it is very exciting, no time to enjoy the scenery, the whole journey is life-saving:). There are a lot of people on weekends, and the queues for ticket exchange and changing clothes are a bit chaotic. The queue for buying VIP tickets is a little shorter, and the queue for ordinary tickets is at least one hour. Parking lot No. 2 is closest to the visitor center. Take the scenic area bus up the mountain. Other parking lots require two short shuttles.

Overall, the explanation was good and very detailed, covering many historical anecdotes. Without the explanation, it would have been a rushed experience, and my impression of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms was far from reality 😅 I've really forgotten all my history. How can you come to Chengdu without visiting the Wuhou Shrine? And you definitely need to listen to a guided tour when you visit Wuhou Shrine. Because I was traveling with elderly people, I chose a private guided tour. What I didn't understand was that they never charged extra for the headsets, which was awkward and uncomfortable.

This place is primarily for those seeking a refined, scholarly atmosphere. It's similar to a park; if you enjoy Du Fu's poetry, you can take your time to read and appreciate it, then stroll around. The snack stall near the north entrance is quite good, but unfortunately, time was too tight, so I didn't have time to go there for lunch.

Wenshu Fang, nestled against the ancient Wenshu Monastery, exudes the rustic charm of western Sichuan folk customs amidst its blue bricks and gray tiles. I strolled leisurely here with my dog, wandering through bamboo paths and red-walled, green corridors; even he couldn't resist frolicking on the stone slabs. There's none of the hustle and bustle of trendy shops, only the jasmine fragrance wafting from teahouses and the gentle sounds of artisans hammering bamboo – the atmosphere is simply divine! Wenshu Fang is a hidden gem of a Chengdu food map! Just step outside and you can enjoy authentic "Dongzikou Zhang Lao Er" sweet water noodles, their sour, spicy, and savory flavors instantly awakening your taste buds. I squatted by the window and ordered a spicy hot pot for my dog, and he quietly devoured half the bowl! There's also freshly ground soy milk and ice jelly on the street corner; even my dog couldn't resist licking the soy pulp clean from the rim of the bowl! Wenshu Fang is incredibly pet-friendly! I took photos with my dog in front of the "Wenshu Fang" cultural and creative shop; he posed on the bluestone slabs against the backdrop of the ancient buildings with their upturned eaves – every snapshot looked like a masterpiece of traditional Chinese style. The shop also thoughtfully provided a water station for pets, so you don't have to worry about your pet getting thirsty.
