The scenery at the Huang Manzhai Waterfall is beautiful, green trees and fresh, clean air. There are many waterfalls in the mountains, large and small. The main waterfalls include the Huang Manzhai Waterfall, the Milky Way Waterfall and the Sandie Waterfall. The falls are 80 meters wide and more than 50 meters deep. Three streams of water plunge from the cliffs. During periods of heavy rain, the three streams can connected together, creating an even more spectacular scene.

Kulangsu

8.7

4.5/5

54.6k reviews

Kulangsu is located in the southwest corner of Xiamen, Fujian Province, facing Xiamen Island across the Lujiang Strait. The island covers an area of about 1.88 km² and is a "garden on the sea, island of pianos, and exhibition of architecture from around the world" that blends nature with culture. In 2017, it was inscribed on the World Cultural Heritage List as "Kulangsu, a Historic International Settlement." The island is a bedrock island with a winding coastline and many natural harbors and reefs; its terrain is mainly hilly, with the highest peak, Sunlight Rock, at 92.7 m above sea level. It has a subtropical maritime monsoon climate, warm and humid, with spring-like weather all year round, making it suitable for visiting throughout the year. Motor vehicles are prohibited on the island, so there is no noise of traffic—only birdsong, flowers, waves, and piano music. Hundreds of historic buildings from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century still stand, spanning Gothic, Victorian, Baroque, Nanyang arcade, and traditional Minnan courtyard styles, and are acclaimed as a "World Architecture Expo" and a living specimen of a modern East Asian international community. Representative buildings include the Bagua Mansion (Organ Museum), Shuzhuang Garden, Haoyue Garden, the former site of the HSBC Mansion, Trinity Church, and the former residence of Lin Yutang. The island has a profound musical cultural heritage. Since the late Qing Dynasty, Western music was introduced through missionary schools. The density of pianos on the island has long ranked among the highest in the country, and musical masters such as Yin Chengzong and Xu Feiping were born here, earning it the reputation of "Island of Pianos" and "Island of Music." The Piano Museum houses century-old antique pianos, and the Organ Museum holds a giant pipe organ. Piano music is often heard among the streets and alleys, and the tradition of family concerts continues to this day. The core attractions on the island each have their own distinctive features. Sunlight Rock is the highest point on the island; from the summit, visitors can enjoy a 360° panoramic view of the entire island, Xiamen main island, and the Taiwan Strait, and there is a saying that "you haven't truly visited Xiamen until you've climbed Sunlight Rock." Shuzhuang Garden was the private residence of the wealthy Taiwanese merchant Lin Erjia, designed to "hide the sea within the garden and embrace the mountains as scenery," blending Jiangnan garden aesthetics with mountain and sea views; the garden's Piano Museum houses nearly a hundred antique pianos. Haoyue Garden features a 15.7 m tall granite statue of Zheng Chenggong facing the sea, built to commemorate the national hero who recovered Taiwan. Bagua Tower is a landmark building on the island, blending Chinese and Western architectural aesthetics, and houses hundreds of antique organs. Yuyuan Garden, Gulang Stone, Yanwei Mountain Ecological Park, and other cultural and natural attractions are scattered across the island, linking together a century of charm and the poetry of mountains and sea. Tour tips Island access: You need to take a ferry from the ferry terminal on Xiamen Island to get there. There is no general admission ticket; core attractions require separate tickets or a combo ticket. Mode of travel: Walking tours across the island; paid sightseeing electric carts are available; motor vehicles are prohibited. Recommended season: suitable all year round; spring and fall (April-May, October-November) offer comfortable weather and blooming bougainvillea, making the scenery especially beautiful.

Canton Tower

4.6/5

50k reviews

The Canton Tower stands on the south bank of the Pearl River, facing Haixinsha Island and Zhujiang New Town across the river. At approx. 600 m tall (including the transmission antenna), it is one of China's well-known observation towers. The tower features a hyperboloid structural design, narrower in the middle and wider at the top and bottom. Because of this distinctive slender waist shape, it is affectionately nicknamed the "Slim Waist" by locals. After nightfall, the LED lights on the tower illuminate, displaying rich colors and animated effects, making it a highly recognizable landmark on the Pearl River night skyline. Even without entering the tower, photographing the illuminated exterior along the river is a popular way to check in. The tower features multiple functional areas arranged from lower to higher levels, with sightseeing and entertainment options throughout. The lower zone includes the Pearl River photography observation deck built along the river, offering expansive views ideal for capturing panoramas of the city's central axis. At over 400 m above ground, the Baiyun and Starry Sky themed observation halls provide sweeping views of Guangzhou's new central axis and the scenery along both banks of the Pearl River. The science exhibition hall shows visitors how supertall buildings withstand strong winds and earthquakes. The tower also offers leisure spaces such as a revolving restaurant and a high-altitude tea room. The high-altitude experiences at the tower top area are particularly rich. The horizontal Ferris wheel features over ten fully transparent capsules that slowly rotate along a track at the tower top, allowing visitors to overlook the panoramic view of Guangzhou from within the capsules. The 488 m outdoor observation deck is the highest point accessible to visitors, where one can enjoy a 360-degree unobstructed view of the city from the tower summit. The vertical free-fall drop ride offers two experience modes: a "seated jump" and a "standing jump" that simulates free fall, suitable for thrill-seeking visitors. The Alpha Exploration Park combines outdoor climbing activities such as cloud walking and mid-air adventures, delivering a unique high-altitude exploration experience at different heights along the tower body.

Xiamen Botanical Garden

8.4

4.6/5

19.2k reviews

Xiamen Botanical Garden is located in Wanshi Mountain and built around the Wanshi Rock Reservoir (now Wanshi Lake). The lake and mountain scenery within the garden complement the lush vegetation, forming the famous Xiamen attraction "Wanshi Hancui." The botanical garden features multiple specialized exhibition areas organized by plant category, among which the rainforest world and the succulent plant area are particularly outstanding. The rainforest world, while preserving the original natural vegetation, has introduced a large number of tropical rainforest plants, displaying rainforest characteristics such as strangler figs, cauliflory, and buttress roots. In addition, a misting system fills the forest with water vapor, making visitors feel as if they are walking through a fairyland. The succulent plant area includes three indoor exhibition halls—the cactus exhibition hall, the succulent plant exhibition hall, and the forest-dwelling succulent plant exhibition hall—as well as an outdoor exhibition area simulating a desert environment. It has collected thousands of succulent species, and its variety of cacti ranks among the top of similar domestic exhibition halls, with the tall Wulun columns and golden barrel cactus clusters being quite spectacular. The gymnosperm area gathers rare tree species such as golden larch, cedar, Norfolk Island pine, and the so-called living fossils metasequoia and ginkgo. In addition to the botanical scenery, the garden is also dotted with numerous cultural relics. "Taiping Stone Laugh," naturally formed by four huge boulders into the shape of an "open-mouthed laugh," is one of the twenty famous attractions of Xiamen; the walls of the Changxiao Cave on the hill behind Tianjie Temple are inscribed with poems by Ming dynasty generals who campaigned against Japanese pirates, and the site is a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit; historical remains such as Wanshi Lian Temple, the New Stele Forest, and the ancient Qiaoxi Bridge each have their own charm. Not far from the main entrance at the West Gate is the Norfolk Island pine lawn, from which visitors can conveniently reach the major scenic areas.

The main scenic area of Huanglong Temple is 56 kilometers away from Songpan County, and the scenic area covers an area of 700 square kilometers. The Huanglong Temple scenic area consists of Huanglong Temple, Muni Valley, Xueshanliang, Xuebaoding, Danyun Gorge, and other scenic spots. It is listed as a world natural heritage site together with Jiuzhaigou. The scenic area is famous for its unique, beautiful, and secluded natural scenery, and is known as the "Yaochi on Earth".

I went there during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday. I booked the Venus Resort Hotel and could visit the scenic spots unlimited times. The scenic area is very large and cool, and each scenic spot can be used for blockbuster movies. The road to the top is relatively narrow, and only experienced drivers dare to drive. It is recommended to drive by yourself, and there are parking lots at each scenic spot.

The interactive underwater boat is a lifesaver for families with kids! We rode in a small car slowly into the whale shark exhibit, watching schools of fish swim by up close through the portholes. My child exclaimed, "It feels like we're in a submarine!" The unique perspective from the boat allowed us to see whale sharks and schools of fish gathering, keeping the kids entertained. We even bought a cute and practical whale shark plush toy at the exit shop. The marine wonders area was clean and bright, and although it was indoors, it wasn't stuffy at all. The staff explained things in soft, professional voices, without being loud or disruptive. While the queues were long, the interactive screens kept us entertained.

I didn't expect that there is such a place where people and nature live in harmony, far away from the hustle and bustle, everything inside is so quiet, which makes me feel new and quiet. If I come next time, I will still choose this early spring rainy season, walking on the path, with the spring breeze and the freshness of spring rain falling into the soil, the whispers of wind and leaves, the clear sound of raindrops hitting bamboo leaves, and the footsteps and surprises of birds and squirrels coming to spy on me, an outsider. If I come next time, I will choose to stay at Jingming Resort Hotel, wake up in the real birdsong and flowers in the morning, and look around to see the silence of the mountains. If I come next time, I will taste their self-produced tea, sit quietly at the table, and look at the calm lake, but not calm. There will always be curious fish on the lake, "dong" and stick their heads out, as if peeking at the spring day, as if looking for a soulmate. The lake is a leisurely turtle and a leisurely flying bird.

I think 300 yuan per person is great value for money. It includes a free cable car ride for a panoramic view of the entire park, and a free mini-train ride for a close-up look at the animals on the African savanna – you get to see everything from different angles. We also spent 300 yuan to drive through the park and get a more intimate look at the animals – a very immersive experience. It wasn't the weekend, so it wasn't too crowded. The park staff were very responsible in their explanations. We also ordered a three-person set meal inside the park, which was a bit pricey, but reasonable for the park's price.

My tip for Canton Tower is to head straight up to the Bubble Tram as soon as you get inside. We waited about an hour to get on, so I’d get that queue out of the way first. Then you can take your time exploring the levels below without thinking about how long the line might be. The level just below the tram is beautiful too, so definitely stop there on your way down.My wife and I really enjoyed the ride. From that high up, you can see Guangzhou in every direction. The bubble moves slowly enough that you have time to take photos of one side of the city, put your phone down and enjoy the view, then see a different part of the skyline as you come around. Even though we shared the bubble with other people, it still felt romantic seeing the city like that together. I’d recommend it for couples, but it would be a fun thing to do with friends or family too. For us, the view was worth the wait!

1. If you just want to sightsee and take some photos, entering from the west gate is sufficient. 2. I only visited the main areas, the rainforest and succulents. I didn't take the tour bus; it's a very gentle uphill, flat path, you can walk there easily. 3. The rainforest is misted from 9 am to 11 am, which makes it easier to photograph the Tyndall effect. You don't necessarily need to arrive early, as the misting is continuous, so it doesn't matter what time you arrive. 4. There's also a greenhouse near the succulents area.
