In the Naruto area of Tokushima, the tides of the Naruto Strait are attractive. The Naruto Strait is a swirl caused by the huge water level difference between the Pacific Ocean and the Seto Inland Sea, and the scenery is spectacular. During the spring tide, the current speed is as high as 10 knots per hour, and a large vortex with a diameter of 20 meters appears.Minamiawaji · 8.6km from Naruto

Fushimi Inari Taisha

7.1
4.7/5
2.3k reviews
Fushimi Inari Taisha is located at the western foot of Mount Inari in southern Kyoto and serves as the head shrine of all Inari shrines across Japan. According to legend, in 711 AD, the deity Inari, who governs bountiful harvests and prosperous commerce, was enshrined here, and the shrine has thrived with worshippers for centuries. Its signature view is the vermilion "Senbon Torii," a seemingly endless tunnel of torii gates stretching up the mountain behind the main hall. This iconic scene is not only one of Kyoto's most representative images but also widely recognized due to the famous scene in the movie "Memoirs of a Geisha," where a young girl runs through the torii gate tunnel. A short walk east from JR Inari Station brings you to the entrance. Passing through the towering vermilion torii gate and proceeding along the main approach, you'll encounter the romon gate, said to have been donated by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1589 to pray for his mother's recovery. Beyond it lie the main hall and other principal structures. Stone fox statues are ubiquitous throughout the shrine, as foxes are considered messengers of the rice god Inari, often depicted holding keys or rice ears in their mouths. Before worshiping, visitors can purify their hands at the temizuya beside the main hall following the illustrated instructions, then clap their hands to pray at the main hall - prayers here often relate to business prosperity and financial fortune. Drawing omikuji fortunes and writing ema votive tablets are common practices; fox-faced ema can be personally decorated with expressions, while miniature torii-shaped ema are equally charming. Fox-shaped omamori amulets make popular souvenirs. Go around to the back of the main hall to find the entrance to the Senbon Torii. Hundreds upon hundreds of torii gates line the path all the way to the summit of Mt. Inari, with weathered, faded gates densely interwoven with bright vermilion ones. When sunlight filters through the gaps, the scene is particularly spectacular, making it a popular spot for photography enthusiasts. Each torii gate was donated by an individual or company, with the donor's name and date inscribed on the back. The path up the mountain is not a straight line; it includes both wide passages that seem to stretch on forever and smaller, parallel paths. Rest areas and sacred sites are scattered along the way, and most travelers come specifically for this mountain trail. After walking for about half an hour, the torii gates gradually become sparse. Upon reaching the Yotsutsuji intersection halfway up the mountain, you can overlook the Kyoto cityscape. Many people also make a special trip up the mountain at night to see the night view. Many travelers turn back here, but if you persist to the summit, the mountain path forms a loop. Several small shrines are distributed around the summit area, and a round-trip generally takes two to three hours, which is also equivalent to experiencing a traditional "Oyama Meguri" (mountain pilgrimage).Japan · Kyoto

Shinsekai

Shinsekai is a famous old district in Osaka, including Tsutenkaku Tower and many historic shops. It's an iconic scene showcasing Osaka's unique character, filled with the charm of a traditional downtown area. Its distinctive neon signs and various 3D billboards are its visual landmarks, and it has appeared in many films and television shows. The northern part of Shinsekai was modeled after Paris, while the southern part was modeled after Coney Island in New York. Tsutenkaku Tower, one of Osaka's landmarks, is located in the northern part of Shinsekai. Although this iron tower reaching into the sky looks somewhat simple and dilapidated, it evokes a sense of nostalgia for many Osaka residents. Shinsekai has many nostalgic alleyways, one of which is Takumi-Yokado in the southeast. It is said to have gotten its name from the "takumi" sound made when geisha played the taisho koto (a traditional Japanese stringed instrument). Its official name now is Nanyo-dori Shopping Street.During Osaka's post-World War II reconstruction period, Takumiyoko Alley was a popular shopping and dining street for locals, and it still retains its original appearance. Lined with izakayas (Japanese pubs), yakiniku (grilled meat) restaurants, general stores, and chess rooms filled with middle-aged men, it's a lively area. Another must-try food in Shinsekai is kushikatsu (deep-fried skewers), one of Osaka's most famous snacks. This delicacy comes in a variety of fillings, including chicken, beef, pumpkin, asparagus, banana, and ice cream desserts. Kushikatsu shops are almost everywhere in Shinsekai, and they become incredibly crowded after nightfall.Osaka · 98km from Naruto

The cherry blossoms and red maples here are very famous, and the beautiful Sagano bamboo forest also reveals the unique charm of Kyoto. In addition, there are many famous temples and shrines scattered around Arashiyama. Iconic Landscape - Togetsukyo Bridge The Togetsukyo Bridge, which spans the Katsura River, is the landmark of Arashiyama. The wooden structure of the bridge and the wooded mountains behind it form a beautiful landscape painting. Arashiyama Park (divided into three parts: Kameyama, Nakanoshima, and Rinchuan Temple) next to the Katsura River is a popular leisure spot. There are large areas of cherry blossoms and maple forests planted in the park. When the cherry blossoms are in full bloom and the maple leaves turn red, the scenery is particularly spectacular, attracting many tourists to come and watch. In December, there is also a lantern festival in this area, when lanterns are hung on the streets, which is very unique. On the hillside of Arashiyama Park (Kameyama area), you can also find a memorial poem monument for "Arashiyama in the Rain". Temples and shrines There are many temples and shrines in the Arashiyama area, and Tenryuji Temple, located in the center, is a must-visit place. Tenryuji Temple is famous for its exquisite landscape gardens and is known as the first of the "Five Great Zen Temples in Kyoto". Many people come here to pray. Sagano Bamboo Forest There is a short bamboo forest between the north side of Tenryuji Temple and Nonomiya Shrine. The trail is lined with towering Nonomiya bamboos, making it a popular tourist spot in the Arashiyama area. In the summer, you can enjoy the leisurely atmosphere and the breeze when walking in the bamboo forest. During the Arashiyama Lantern Festival, the lights are lit up, which is very interesting in winter. Cycling Tours Cycling is a great way to travel around Arashiyama and Sagano. Riding a bicycle between suburban houses and temples and shrines is both labor-saving and relaxing. Gioji Temple, Daikakuji Temple, Jojakkoji Temple, Nison-in Temple, and Kano Nenbutsu-ji Temple are all worth visiting. You can also go to the Iwatayama Monkey Park on the mountain, where you can not only see many wild monkeys, but also get a bird's eye view of Kyoto. You can find a bicycle rental shop near Arashiyama Station. Train Tours Taking the Sagano sightseeing train to visit Arashiyama and Hozukyo is a very romantic thing. The train runs along the railway over Hozukyo, with cherry blossoms in spring, gurgling streams in summer, red leaves in autumn, and silvery white in winter. The train runs between Torokko Saga Station (next to JR Saga Arashiyama Station) and Torokko Kameoka Station, and the scenery along the way is different when Round-trip in and out. Cruise If you have enough time, you can also go to Kameoka to experience rafting or Cruise on the Hozu River, passing through the picturesque countryside canyons and after several rapid sections, you can reach the Togetsukyo Bridge in Arashiyama. Delicious cuisine You can also eat many delicious Japanese desserts, barbecue and other dishes in Arashiyama, especially in Babacho and Sanjo-dori near Togetsukyo Bridge. The eye-catching restaurant signs and enthusiastic service staff there make people feel very friendly!Japan · Kyoto

Arima Onsen is a relatively old hot spring in the Kansai region, located in Arima Town, Kita Ward, Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture. Arima Onsen, one of Japan's three largest hot springs, is a 1,300-year-old hot spring area that is said to have been built by Buddhist monks in the 8th century. Surrounded by mountains on three sides, you can enjoy cherry blossoms in spring and maple trees in autumn. In addition to the famous hot springs, this place is quite popular with tourists. The water quality of Arima Onsen is rich in minerals, and it is divided into golden spring, silver spring, radium spring and carbonated spring according to different spring quality. In addition, because the spring quality of Arima Onsen is slightly salty, it is rumored that if an ancient samurai was injured, soaking in this area would make the wound easier to heal. Bathing here, the warm heat often mirrors the dense clouds and mists of the mountains outside. Today's hot spring area is a concentration of elegant hot spring hotels, and the quiet style is another charming style of Kobe.Kobe · 90.9km from Naruto

Nara Park is a historic city park in Nara City, Japan, opened in 1880 and famous for its herds of free-roaming deer. The park features expansive lawns, lush trees, and scattered ponds and streams, and is home to a large number of deer designated as natural monuments. The deer often forage and play on the grass, and will also approach visitors. There are stalls in the park selling deer crackers, which visitors can purchase to feed the deer. When feeding the deer, it is best to take one piece at a time and put the food away promptly after feeding to avoid teasing the deer by holding the crackers for too long. The park is backed by the Mt. Kasuga Primeval Forest and is surrounded by a rich natural environment, with unique scenery in each of the four seasons. In spring, fresh greenery contrasts with cherry blossoms; in the fall, you can enjoy the autumn leaves; and on ordinary days, it is also suitable for strolling along the lawns and forest paths. Tobihino is an open lawn where you can often see deer moving about freely. Historic buildings and cultural heritage sites such as Tōdai-ji, Kasugataisha Shrine, and Kohfukuji Temple are located around the park, blending natural scenery with the atmosphere of the ancient capital. Every February and August, Kasugataisha Shrine holds the Mantoro (Ten Thousand Lanterns) festival, where the stone lanterns along the approach and the hanging lanterns are lit one by one, creating a tranquil and traditional night view.Japan · Nara City

Hidden within this room lies the charm of nature. Pushing open the door, verdant greenery greets you first. Leaning against the window, the murmuring of a spring fills the air, while mist and haze drift into the room along the window sill. Each season presents its own unique beauty here: spring brings forth new bamboo shoots, summer offers lush shade, autumn fills the courtyard with the fragrance of osmanthus, and winter sees snow tapping against the window. Every detail in the room reflects thoughtful consideration: the mattress's firmness perfectly supports a tired back, the toiletries have a pleasant, non-irritating scent, and a warm, yellow light awaits you at the door when you return late at night. This is not just a temporary resting place, but a sanctuary for the soul. After a few days, even the most tense nerves gradually relax, allowing you to rediscover your most relaxed state.

Cape Naruto is an important link between Shikoku and Honshu. The Naruto Bridge and Akashi Kaikyo Bridge connect the two places and the island in the middle. The main landscape of the Naruto Strait is the cross-sea bridge between Naruto City in Tokushima Prefecture and Awaji Island in Hyogo Prefecture, as well as the Seto Inland Sea and Kii Channel on both sides of the strait. Due to the water level difference, rapid convection will form during high and low tides, creating spectacular sea whirlpools.

Having just recovered from a prolonged illness, I was so weak I could barely walk. The few days I spent at this hotel gradually restored my energy and spirit. It allows you to shed your fatigue and let your soul find poetic peace in its tranquility. All the lighting was soft and warm, not too bright to make you dizzy; the bed's firmness was just right to support your back, preventing soreness after lying down for a while; the meals were warm, easily digestible congee and side dishes; even the air had a mild scent, not irritating my sensitive respiratory tract. Every day I leisurely strolled in the courtyard, watching the wildflowers slowly bloom in the corner, sitting under the eaves basking in the sun, even my steps were light. There was no need to rush my recovery, no need to force myself to get better quickly. I stole a half-day of leisure, finding a long-lost sense of ease and freedom. Those few days I lived entirely at my own pace, without any pressure or urging, and my recovery was much faster than I had expected.

Besides the real spring water, it felt like a bathhouse in China during the summer, albeit with a more elaborate process. First, change into a bathhouse outfit, then shower, then put on your bathhouse outfit to change into your own clothes before leaving. No rest required, and the same process continued. I was given a key box twice. The cashier was quite quick. The food was reasonably priced.

Nara Park is a beautiful place to enjoy nature and experience one of Japan’s most famous attractions. The friendly deer roaming freely throughout the park made the visit unique and unforgettable. Feeding the deer with special crackers and watching them bow before receiving food was a fun experience. The park is spacious, with peaceful walking paths, large green lawns, and beautiful scenery. I also enjoyed visiting the nearby temples and shrines, which added to the cultural experience. The atmosphere was relaxing, especially in the morning when there were fewer crowds. It is a perfect place for families, couples, and photographers. I highly recommend visiting if you are looking for a mix of nature, history, and memorable interactions with the famous Nara deer.
