Cheng Kan is located in Huizhou District, Huangshan City. It is a thousand-year-old ancient village whose site and layout were chosen according to the yin-yang and bagua theory in the I Ching. At the end of the Tang Dynasty, the Luo family moved here from Nanchang, Jiangxi, and built the village according to the mountains and terrain. The streets and alleys extend in all directions, and entering the village is like entering a bagua maze. Eight peaks surround the village, and the Congchuan River flows through it in an "S" shape, naturally forming the dividing line of the yin-yang fish of the bagua. The entire village is like a living feng shui scroll. The ancient village preserves a large number of buildings from the Song, Yuan, and Ming dynasties, and such a wide chronological span is very rare among Hui-style villages. Changchun She in the southeast corner was first built in the Song Dynasty and is a community house for worshiping the earth god; Huanxiu Bridge in the northeast was built in the Yuan Dynasty, with a pavilion at the bridgehead, and Huanxiu Xuan beside the bridge houses many old Huizhou wood carvings and embroideries; Luo Huitai Residence, also from the Yuan Dynasty, also has a long history. The Huizhou government office is located at No. 120, Zhonghe Street, Huicheng Town, She County, Huangshan City, Anhui Province. It is the seat of the ancient Huizhou government. It began in the third year of Xuanhe in the Northern Song Dynasty (1121) when Shezhou was changed to Huizhou. It was originally the Huizhou government, and was rebuilt during the Shaoxi to Duanping years. In the Yuan Dynasty, it was the Huizhou Road government, and was rebuilt again during the Zhizheng period. In the early Ming Dynasty, it was successively changed to the Executive Privy Council and the Command and Envoy Office, and the government was located on the site of the former Experience Office to its west. In the third year of Hongwu (1370), it was restored to the Huizhou government. It was rebuilt during the Zhengtong, Hongzhi, and Chongzhen periods of the Ming Dynasty, and during the Kangxi, Yongzheng, Qianlong, and Daoguang periods of the Qing Dynasty. The original main buildings included the watchtower, the ceremonial gate, the main hall, the back hall, and the prefectural residence. After 1949, it was used as the She County government. In the 1980s, due to the construction of a new county government building, most of the buildings except the watchtower and the back hall were demolished. Since April 2009, the She County government has invested 200 million yuan to rebuild the palace on the original site, referring to the map of the government office in the Huizhou Prefecture Records of the Hongzhi period of the Ming Dynasty. The total area is 2.4 hectares, with a construction area of ​​9,800 square meters. It was officially opened to the public in November 2012. The restored building units refer to the existing architectural remains of the mid-Ming Dynasty in She County, and adopt the small-scale practices of the Ming Dynasty, such as Huizhou winter melon beams, inserted arches, and through-beam hall structures, and the interior is built on the Ming Dynasty. Honestly, it was much worse than I expected... It felt far inferior to Qiandao Lake, both in terms of scenery and activities. I didn't even bother taking pictures of the river views. We visited three islands: one for autumn harvest, one for the "Red Makeup" area with its thousand-year-old camphor tree, and one for fishing. We just looked around casually; we were already there anyway...

The village retains its original ecological charm, with old rammed earth buildings perched high in the mountains. The earthen-yellow buildings cascade down the slope, creating a beautiful autumn atmosphere without excessive commercialization. Entry to the village is free, but the shuttle bus up the mountain costs extra. It's suitable for those who enjoy the wilderness, photography, and are willing to hike a short distance.

The wetlands on the edge of the village have unique scenery and ancient water conservancy projects. Even without a guide, I only understood them intuitively, and they were impressive, though not entirely clear. Free admission and well-managed—thumbs up! Perfect for relaxation, unwinding, and team building. I imagine the stream would be full of children playing in the water during the summer.

Inside the scenic area, you can listen to operas and watch situational dramas; don't expect too much, just enjoy them. From the back garden of the government office, you can climb the city wall, which is quite a good place to see the ancient city of Huizhou.

The Tangyue Memorial Archway Complex is the pinnacle of the "memorial archway" category, one of the three wonders of ancient Huizhou architecture. The completeness of the seven interconnected archways and the family narrative they represent are irreplaceable in southern Anhui and even nationwide. While the bonsai design in the Bao Family Garden is commendable, the garden's architecture is rough and doesn't match the ancient architectural complex. The Tangyue Memorial Archway Complex and the Bao Family Garden, one dynamic and the other serene, one strong and the other gentle, one telling the story of the Bao family's four-hundred-year ethical glory, the other embodying the garden aesthetics of the heyday of Huizhou merchants, together create a complete picture of Huizhou's culture and nature, making them ideal for a combined visit.

This was my second visit to Xucun this year, and the scenery was completely different from February. Outside the village, there were many fields of blooming chrysanthemums, and elderly people were drying chrysanthemums at home. The dogs here are very obedient and rarely bark at tourists. The tour guide was still very detailed; although the guide was young, he was very attentive and even recommended good photo spots. The girl at the ticket office was also particularly kind, informing us about the free luggage storage lockers at the entrance and explaining how to get our deposit back (via the mini-program - My - Withdrawal). In Xucun, something good happened.
