A place for intangible cultural heritage experiences with daily games. Hundreds of acres of streets and alleys hide endless excitement, while 40,000 square meters of space hold countless surprises. Since its opening in 2022 with an under-construction charm, Zhouzhi Water Street Fireworks Alley has become a "hidden gem" in travelers' hearts: during the 2023 Spring Festival and May Day holidays, it welcomed 200,000 travelers daily, with annual visits exceeding 10 million. Billions of clicks online have amplified its reputation as the "northern Kuanzhai Alley, an ancient town that never sleeps." By July 2025, the upgraded Fireworks Alley will further etch the essence of "fun" into every brick. Intangible cultural heritage living theater: Step into a thousand-year-old story The attraction invited top-tier domestic director teams to create three outdoor live-action performances and seven indoor immersive theaters exclusively for Zhouzhi Water Street Fireworks Alley. Rooted in intangible cultural heritage and featuring situational performances, it offers high-quality immersive theatrical experiences. Ten open-air mini stages in the park host full-day free performances. Grab a cup of hot tea and enjoy nationwide intangible cultural heritage shows from morning till night, from witty clapper talk and crosstalk to breathtaking folk arts, immersing you at every turn. The street shops dazzle with diverse offerings—pick up any cultural souvenir, and you'll carry the warmth of intangible heritage in your bag. Players' world: The entire alley is your playground Over a hundred NPCs roam the streets with tasks, where handing over a silver note gets you an adventure token — want to test your stamina? Take on the obstacle course; love using your brain? Head to the fortune workshop to crack treasure maps; feeling lucky? Use silver notes to redeem surprise gifts from treasure vault blind boxes. From dawn till dusk, there are no "spectators" in the "Player's world": team up to unlock hidden storylines, chase NPCs for interactive games, or dominate the park with silver notes. Here, you can play to your heart's content, earn happily, and redeem unique cultural creations or limited-edition gifts. After all, the real thrill lies in the joy that's "playable, profitable, and portable." Whether you seek tranquility in intangible cultural heritage or want to go wild in games; whether you're a silver-haired senior or a bouncing child; whether you prefer the depth of traditional culture or are obsessed with the fun of interactive games — Zhouzhi Water Street Fireworks Alley will send you away with your heart full of satisfaction.Zhouzhi · 13.6km from Wugong

The Qinling Mausoleum was constructed in the year 684 and is one of the rare places in China - or even the world - where emperors from two dynasties and an imperial husband and wife are interred. Emperor Gaozong of Tang (Li Zhi) and his wife Wu Zetian, China's only empress, are interred here. This mausoleum is also one of the few imperial tombs in China that has not been looted. The Qinling Mausoleum Scenic Area is quite large. In addition to the Qinling Mausoleum itself, it also contains many “companion tombs” (peizangmu) in which members of the imperial court and major ministers are buried. The tombs of Prince Zhanghuai, Crown Prince Yide, and Princess Yongtai are currently being excavated.Qian County · 34.4km from Wugong

The Mount Taibai National Forest Park

7.1
4.5/5
3.8k reviews
The Mount Taibai National Forest Park is located on the northern slope of Mount Taibai, the main peak of the Qinling Mountains. Within the park, Baxian Terrace stands at an elevation of over 3,700 m, towering above all other peaks in the Qinling range. The dramatic vertical drop creates distinct layers of vegetation and climate zones as altitude increases—while the plains below swelter in midsummer heat, higher elevations bring a penetrating chill. In ancient times, the frigid summit retained snow even in June, earning "Taibai snow in June" a place among the eight scenic views of Guanzhong. Though snow in June is now rare, the alpine region still preserves Quaternary glacial relics such as cirque lakes and stone seas, offering a rare view of high-altitude landforms. Most 1-day tours turn back at "Sky circle earth square," which sits at an elevation of over 3,500 m on the main ridge of the Qinling Mountains—the watershed dividing China's north and south. Streams north of the ridge flow into the Yellow river, while those south feed the Yangtze river. On clear days, you can overlook rolling seas of clouds. The true summit ascent to Baxian Terrace begins here. A standard hiking itinerary to the peak takes approx. two days, starting from Sky circle earth square, passing Xiaowengong Temple and Dawengong Temple to reach the alpine cirque lake Daye Hai, then making the final push to the summit, with an overnight stay at Xiaowengong Temple. The Mount Taibai National Forest Park's remote areas feature complex terrain and wildlife including large predators. Whether traveling by vehicle, cable car, or on foot, always stay on developed routes and avoid venturing off main paths. The first day of the seventh lunar month is the traditional temple fair of The Mount Taibai National Forest Park, when crowds of visitors flock to the mountain, creating a lively atmosphere and offering a great opportunity to experience mountain folk customs.Mei County · 38.8km from Wugong

History background: Shaanxi History Museum is located in the northwest of the Dayan Pagoda in Xi'an. It is one of the landmark attractions of Xi'an. The museum was planned in 1983, started in the summer of 1986, and officially opened on June 20, 1991. It was named Shaanxi History Museum. In 2016, Shaanxi History Museum was selected as "China's 20th Century Architectural Heritage" by the Chinese Cultural Relics Society and the Chinese Architectural Society. Museum Features: Shaanxi History Museum is a large modern museum, and its completion marks a new milestone in the development of China's museum industry. This museum is a Tang-style building complex with a "central hall and four corner towers". The main and secondary buildings are well-organized, the heights are staggered, and the momentum is solemn. It integrates national traditions, local characteristics and the spirit of the times. The museum covers an area of 65,000 square meters, and houses more than 380,000 cultural relics ranging from simple stone tools used in the initial stage of ancient humans to various artifacts in social life before 1840, covering a time span of more than one million years. The cultural relics are not only numerous and diverse, but also of high quality and wide value. The collections in the museum are dazzling and exquisite. It is an art hall that showcases the history and culture of Shaanxi and ancient Chinese civilization, and is known as the "Pearl of the Ancient Capital, the Treasure House of China." There are many treasures in the museum, including bronzes from the Shang and Zhou dynasties, pottery figurines from various dynasties, gold and silver utensils from the Han and Tang dynasties, and murals from Tang tombs. Most of them are treasures from the prosperous periods of the Han and Tang dynasties, and some of them are fine items that are prohibited from leaving the country. Collection treasures: There are three exhibition halls in the center of the museum. The first exhibition hall displays cultural relics from the prehistoric civilization of Lantian ape-man 1.15 million years ago to the Qin Dynasty; the second exhibition hall displays cultural relics from the Han Dynasty and the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties; and the third exhibition hall is mainly cultural relics from the prosperous Tang Dynasty. Each exhibition hall has its own treasure. There are special exhibition halls on the east and west sides of the central hall. On the west side, there is a "Special Exhibition of Tang Dynasty Treasures (Treasure Hall, Cultural Relics Unearthed in Hejiacun)", where many fine gold and silver wares from the heyday of the Tang Dynasty were transferred to be exhibited. On the east side, there is a "Treasures of Tang Dynasty Murals Exhibition", which exhibits a number of authentic Tang Dynasty tomb murals. The tripod The tripod is placed in the first exhibition hall at the entrance of the museum, and it can be said to be the treasure of the first exhibition hall. The replica is placed here, and the original is kept in the warehouse. Inscription on the outer wall: The inscription "All under heaven is the king's land; all the people are the king's subjects" reflects the land ownership system in the Western Zhou Dynasty. There are four lines of inscriptions with 28 characters on the inner wall of the Yi Ding. The general meaning is: In early August of a certain year, Wang Jiang took back the land originally given to Shi Lu and gave it to Yi, who then made this tripod to commemorate it. Queen's Seal: One of the treasures worth seeing in the second exhibition hall is the jade seal of the empress of the Han Dynasty, which is displayed separately. The seal is made of Xinjiang Hetian mutton-fat jade and is engraved with a Chihu, symbolizing royal power. Three-color camel figurines carrying music: This world-famous tri-color camel figurine carrying music is located in the third exhibition hall of Shaanxi History Museum. Its overall appearance and color are well preserved. There are seven men sitting on the camel's back, holding different musical instruments in their hands. Among them, the figurine holding the clapboard is listening attentively, as if intoxicated by the wonderful music. The woman in the middle is performing, and the camel opens its mouth wide and looks up to the sky, as if it is also singing with its master. Gold-inlaid animal head agate cup: This cultural relic, located in the special exhibition "Tang Dynasty Relics Special Exhibition", is one of the first 64 national treasures listed by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage that are never allowed to be exhibited abroad. There are also many other treasures such as black-glazed oil-drip bowls, green-glazed porcelain pots with handles, gilded silver bamboo-joint copper incense burners, gold bowls with mandarin duck and lotus petal patterns, and so on.Xi'an · 69.5km from Wugong

Emperor Qinshihuang's Mausoleum Site Museum, also known as the Terracotta Army, is located about 1.5 kilometers east of the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor and forms part of the extensive necropolis. There were more than a thousand terracotta soldiers unearthed here, each with a different facial expression. Standing before the massive underground army, you will feel the extraordinary might of the Qin Emperor that enabled him to unify six warring states two thousand years ago. The Qin Emperor Ying Zheng began building the mausoleum for himself at the age of 13. Nearly 720000 men and 38 years were required to complete this vast project.China · Xi'an

The shuttle bus service is very convenient. You don't need to take a bus to Princess Yongtai's Tomb; after visiting that tomb, you can take the bus to all the other tombs. The staff are very friendly. The only downside is that there are sometimes waiting times for the bus to depart.

The scenic area buses only depart when they are full, and they won't stop for tourists who don't want to continue climbing after stopping for sightseeing. Taibai Mountain is beautiful; the autumn colors at the foot of the mountain are stunning, and on a clear day, climbing to the summit of the Qinling Mountains revealed a magnificent sea of clouds.

The Shaanxi History Museum is incredibly popular; I tried to book several days in advance but couldn't get a reservation… so I booked a guided tour, which made my trip to Xi'an worthwhile. I saw so many treasures inside, but the most memorable were: 1. The Duoyou Ding: A bronze vessel from the reign of King Li of the Western Zhou Dynasty, with a 278-character inscription cast on its inner wall. My teacher said that the more inscriptions on a bronze vessel, the more valuable it is, and the more helpful it is for modern research into specific periods of ancient history. This elevated the value of the ding to an all-time high. 2. The Sancai Camel Carrying Musicians: A masterpiece of Tang Dynasty Sancai pottery, this camel carries eight small terracotta figures, each with expressive features and holding various musical instruments, depicting a scene of dance and music reflecting the fusion of Han and non-Han cultures during the prosperous Tang Dynasty. It would definitely be considered overloaded on a modern road, haha! 😂 3. The Gold-Inlaid Beast-Head Agate Cup: Listed by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage as one of the first 64 national treasures permanently prohibited from being exhibited abroad. Exquisitely crafted, the cup's body mimics the shape of animal horns, with the front carved into a bull-shaped head, its eyes wide open and piercing. This is a unique piece in China. 4. Gilded Silver Ewer with Dancing Horse and Cup Design: The only artifact that provides concrete evidence of Emperor Xuanzong of Tang's "Dancing Horse Birthday Celebration" ceremony. The dancing horse and cup design on the ewer is clearly defined and features flowing lines. It is said that there is a heartbreaking story behind these dancing horses: During the Tang Dynasty, these meticulously trained court dancing horses would kneel and bow, holding wine cups in their mouths, to offer birthday wishes to the emperor. However, after the An Lushan Rebellion, they were scattered into the military camps of regional warlords and mixed into the army. When the dancing horses heard the drums and horns of the military camp, they thought the performance had begun and began to dance to the beat. The stablemen, terrified, considered this "monster" and whipped them. The dancing horses, mistaking the rhythm for being off, danced even more vigorously. Seeing this, the stablemen whipped them even more, killing them. The dancing horses thus disappeared. Therefore, this treasure is a top-tier national treasure, prohibited from leaving the country, bearing witness to the legend of "Dancing Horses and Cups." The teachers only explained the museum's most prized possessions during this visit, and there were still so many artifacts we didn't have time to see. I look forward to visiting Xi'an again next time.

The Terracotta Army was on my bucket list for years and it was truly a trip of a lifetime. Seeing thousands of unique, 2,000-year-old warriors up close is breathtaking - the craftsmanship is unreal. The only downside was the massive crowds and lack of organization. It was very difficult to approach the pits and really enjoy the exhibits, as all the groups arrive at once.It needs better crowd control, but it is still an absolute must-see wonder. Unforgettable.
